lokerruff seems like everywhere else has a better st.paddy day than ireland itself! Nah, like in Ireland, it's more of a big deal in the big cities--and less important in little ones. The difference is thus: In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is more of a religious thing, and an excuse for a celebration. In the states, it's pretty much a celebration of Irish heritage, and a day to get drunk since... everyone here thinks we're all drunkies anyway. But hell, I won't complain. Drunk people are funny.

Once I was on a bus leaving Dublin with my auntie late at night when I was 9 or 10 and there were 3 drunk people and one of them wanted to hand cuff the guy to the bus cos it was her birthday. It was really scary.
I used to always go to the parade in Dublin when I was smaller and I would get front row and then we would go to Captain Americas.

St Patrick's Day has never really been about drinking for me >> but Heritage is very big. I wear orange, green and white on this wonderful day and run around trying to share as much of my heritage as I can (including Irish folklore and songs) I hope you all take part in the St Patrick's day event for the guild. Most of the time Gaia doesn't do a site wide event but this guild always has fun the whole month of March razz suggestions are always welcome to make the festivities even more fun

I've missed St. Patricks day 2 years in a row now! last year I was in poland and this year i'll be in rome! I can't wait for next year, I'm not planing any trips so i'll be able to go into town with my friends and just have a laugh (i'm not much of a parade person, they tend to bore me, but normally there's something else going on in Dublin) In fairness about the number of drunken people, all you have to do is to go into town after a winning irish rugby match to see the exact same amount. I personallly don't notice the difference.

I heard once that the tradition of pinching someone for not wearing green was started by the Irish when the English were still occupying Ireland. The Irish men would all wear some sort of green, and then beat up on the English men who walked into the pubs not wearing green. Any truth to it?
