Gelasius First, has anyone noticed that in the commercials for the Producers, there aren't any musical numbers? Shouldn't that tip people off that it's gonna suck? They did the same thing with Rent. However, go check out the clips for the movie The Producers. It looks great.

WickedWitchoftheWest-ish There's rumors of Wicked going to the bigscreen too. I'm not quite sure if that's a good thing or not yet though. Some of the stuff I've heard makes me want to crawl in a corner and die (like Britney Spears playing Glinda) but it'd be good if they could do it soon and have the original cast in it. Though the chances of that are kind of slim confused I actually really want Wicked to be made into a Disney cartoon. I think it would be great as one.

That reminded me of my evil plot to turn Phantom of the Opera into a Disney cartoon...there'd be all kinds of mice singing about how it's "okay to be different" and the like. xp

On the rumors of the Wicked movie... people are getting confused about it because before it was a musical it was going to be a movie. Demi Moore was trying to get the book developed into a movie, but it fell through. Then Universal picked up the idea and was thinking about doing it, but ultimatly decided it would have more charm as a musical so they developed it for the stage.
Universal is far to smart to make it into a movie right now. Look at all the other musicals that were turning into movies as of late. They all made the jump to the big screen at a time when their ticket sales were suffering. The movies helped to boost sales and keep the shows going. Phantom was on the TKTS boards for ages. The second the movie came out, you couldn't get ticket anymore without paying full price. Chicago and Rent were both on the verge of closing when the movies came out but then tickets sales went through the roof.
Wicked is at 100% tickets sales right now. There will be no movie until the producers of the show need a movie to pick up the ticket sales.

In that case, I hope the ticket sales plummet for Wicked! 3nodding xd :

I NEVER EVER EVER want Wicked to be a moive? You hear? EVERRRRRRRR!!!!! If they make Wicked into a movie, I swear, I will slit my wrists!!!!!! [/end rant' (this was not meant to offend anyone, jsut expressing my humble (kind of) opinion wink This whole musical-to-movie thing isnt too bad, but I just REALLY don't see Wicked as a movie. And moive-to-musical too. They are thinking about makeing Legally Blonde into a movie *sheilds ears, eyes, mouth* What is this world coming to.

Maureen_Johnson And moive-to-musical too. They are thinking about makeing Legally Blonde into a movie *sheilds ears, eyes, mouth* What is this world coming to. It's a changing trend that is going to HAVE to be done to keep theatre alive at this point. In today's world, the average person would not go to see something orginal anymore. They want to see something they know, that is why so many books and movies are being turned into musicals today. And if you think about it.... that are not really a whole lot of "original" musicals. Nearly ever successful Broadway musical that I can thing of from an adapation of a book, musical, or person.

Only if they cast the wrong people like they did after the original cast.

For the time period I think Rent was an excelent movie to be made considering it deals with issues of now eventhough it took place in the 90's. I mean, it's one of the bigger movies to have homosexuality as one of it's themes... but then again there's brokeback mountain.
But for now I'm really impressed with Little Shop of Horrors considering Audrey 2 was this giant puppet that took 40 people to opperate eek

Wouldn't it be funny if Wicked (the book) was made into a stop-motion animated picture a la Nightmare Before Christmas? That would be hilarious...I could so see it done by Tim Burton. xp

I love musicals but I don't get many chances to see them professionally. So I like the movies because it gives me a chance to see what I like and what I don't like. I know the stage to screen transitions aren't perfect but I take what I can get. I liek it. They're not perfect, but it's the same as book to film type things.

It's only a good idea for a few of them.
Phantom of the Opera was good, but it left of some crucial(sp?) information and various parts. I.E. The Rehearsal for "Don Juan Triumphant".
Though I still love the movie, the play is a million times better!!

I like it when broadway musicals come to the big screen. But i dont like it when they change the music a lot and i hate it when people are talking and they are like, "I hated rent! All they did was sing and make out!" I was like, "DUH ITS A MUSICAL ABOUT AIDS!" My friend did that and i was mad lol

Oh, did Phantom suck. Love the musical, the books, but the 2004 movie? Oy vey.
Me watching Phantom: "Okay Masquerade was awesome. The music's okay they just need to learn to lip-sync better...WTF?! WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS MAKEUP?! WHY DOES HE HAVE A SUNBURN?!"
I disagree that RENT was worse than Phantom. The only movie I've ever cried at was RENT.
Chicago I would say was the best, and The Producers was pretty awesome too. It did have the music in the commercials, did you notice they were singing "Springtime for Hitler" in the background? My bf didn't want to see it because I quote "It's about Nazis." stare I couldn't explain the plot in a way he would get it.
Dude, if Wicked were done by Tim Burton I WOULD SEE IT.
I checked www.imdb.com and it says nothing about Wicked (the musical) becoming a movie as of yet. (This in reference to various rumors)
