Dappled flicked his tail annoyed, disheartened, ooh of course he knew of this truth, ugly and disgusting. He hated it! Despised, loathed, if there were one thing on earth tangible enough to kill it would be this. It was not tangible though, it could be felt, seen heard, but never touched. It darkened their lives every day and what could they do about it? Nothing! Helpless as blind newborns cast out into the world with not a care..pathetic..

"Tsk..I know your truth..Your truth is death, that is the only truth! The damned law of this world, to die and be cold, to live and be cold and fear dying.."
dappled seethed unhappily. "I hate it, I find it ugly and unwanted. That we must live our whole lives in shadows, mimicking happiness and love and kindness only to have it all torn away at some point or another.. The fact that no one can change this annoys me." he huffed softly giving the demon a curious look. It did explain quite a bit, what he was, what he loved..he was indeed the darkness and despair that dappled so disliked, embodied into a living form. Given a soul and a purpose and life, a body of a kimeti. "You intrigue me, even if I fear that I may dislike you, at least I understand you" to a point he understood. Dappled absently scratched at a clump of mud that clung to a lock of fur along his foreleg, giving an accusatory glance to the darkness around him.

"I wonder..did I make a mistake coming here? Maybe the heart is the wrong place to go, maybe...its to late hmmn to change such a thing. Ahhh but If I left this place, this body that is our home with its dark heart...even if I died outside of it..maybe I'd be happy" maybe there would be less pain, afterall one could not feel pain or loss or sadness if they had no heart and no body, and one would not fear a death they had knowingly brought upon themselves.

Midnight nibbled on his knee some more, chasing the itch that wanted to roam all the way down and then up his thigh. Stupid itch... the buck thought to himself, distracted for a moment, but it was only his mind that was torn away from Dappled Despair, his ears were trained without fault upon him, savouring every word. Yes, this was what he wanted! Such anguish and hatred leaked from this buck! Oh, it was delicious, it was.

Midnight brought his head back up to shoulder level and peered at the blue buck from there. His glowing stitches of eyes shone a little brighter as they absorbed all of the movements and anger-twitches that flowed through the other. He was so angry! So hateful! So very emotional. Midnight decided that he suited his name to unknown lengths, and had to restrain himself from giggling. Alas, a very wide smirk could not be restrained.

Midnight ignored the comment about understanding him, and instead responded to the mumbles that could have been spoken more to himself than to Midnight. "Yes, this heart is a dark one, a darker one I have not known. But where else would one strike?" As he spoke, he carefully studied the other's reactions, trying to see what other emotions he could stir up. Perhaps some hope...? His smirk widened. He only wanted to tear that away, though. "Surely if you left here there would be other places, brighter places for you to reside. Drier places, happier places, places being choked by sunlight, but then... Would you escape the darkness there? By day, perhaps... but what would happen by night? What of nightmares and other dark creatures like me and my sister? Where would you go?"

Dappled watched in mild annoyance as midnight attacked whatever itch ailed him, it seemed that the swamps bugs and bites and bits of grievances even got to the demon at times. Fur was a horrid thing to be blessed with when living in the most damp and murky of places, another curse maybe? Sure it kept one warm! But it also collected gnats and ticks, sticks and burrs...

Frowning softly as midnight leveled his gaze with his own. Giving another flick of his ears, peering into those eyes..if that glowing mass of scar could possibly be referred to as eyes. It made dappled uneasy, made him want to step further back, itch and twitch just looking at them..
He nearly missed what the demon had said, so low and softly spoken he wasnt even sure he'd heard that bit of sentence right. "Yes you see! If I left" dappled chuckled brightly, nodding in hopes that maybe the demon was seeing things his way for once. "If I left, the sun and the sky, clear of this murky mist, dry and hard and safe..surely no long sharp toothed reptiles..No more annoying wet insects and slimy critters" dappled actually managed a grin, listening to midnight finish speaking, it dropped a fraction yet still remained on his face. "By night? Heh..nightmare creatures like you would not venture into the world of day, surely 'you' even as horrid and demonic as you are...even as cruel as I imagine you are..I doubt you would ever leave this dark heart of yours" still dappled doubted..what if beyond there were only more monsters, more beasts like this one, though midnight was surely the most friendly beast he'd encountered..

What if their entire world was cursed? And beyond the swamp lay only more swamp, beyond that lay dry dead earth filled with worse things. No, he had to have hope! There had to be something out there..anything...

Oh it was so hard. So very, very hard.
Midnight only just managed to keep his laughter silent until Dappled finished speaking. And when he did, his laughter broke out, loud and raucous, sounding like a thousand voices mocking and jeering all at once. It felt so cold and wonderful to Midnight, he couldn't say much for anyone else, though.

His laughter began to whither down to a demonic grin, and as it did, the black kimeti began to walk large circles around the other buck. The quieter his laugh and wider the grin, the faster he began to pace. "You think it's better out there? You think your smothering sunlight will be better than the beloved wetness of our swamp? That the bugs out there are any less persistent than here?" A chuckle. "Boy, you really are hopeful, aren't you?" He poked his nose slightly closer to the other buck, for just a moment to intake a swift sniff, not believing. "Ah, true, true. I may not care to venture out there into that dryness, nor, I'm sure, would my sister. But we are not the only creatures of darkness, of sorrow, of grief and fear." By now, Midnight was easily trotting around and around, his eyes glowing brighter as he got more excited, his ears twitching to every movement of the blue buck. Even his coat began to twitch randomly in all the adrenaline. "What of the one they call Thistle? You believe she's not out there? Waiting for non-believers? Why couldn't she exist? Dark and evil as I? Oh, I ask questions and search for knowledge, but that's just on a good day..." Was that a wink? "Trust me, Dappled Despair. Out there is no better than here, in the Mother's grasp. Many have gone out there and never returned, died in that horrid heat. I've heard tales of the land out there and it's night-walkers and desert-snakes, and it's pesky bugs that fly straight for the eyes. Believe me, Dappled Despair." He lowered his voice to a whisper, muscles tensing in his hind legs. "There is no where to hide..." And with that, he pounced on the buck, teeth baring viciously.
