"Franz, my dear friend..." Howl started off in a calm tone. "I am hurt you would suggest I would do such a horrid thing. And, it is only considered stalking if you are harassing with continual pursuit. Casual appreciation is far from a crime." As he sipped his tea once more, he could not help but recall the fact he knew what stalking was through personal experience. A casual glance from afar was hardly stalking when compared to continual pursuit, seeking for a single glance just to complete your soul for one more second. Howl was hoping it was a mere coincidence, rather than his friend knowing the exact reason as to why the teal-haired lad was present at Hillworth.
Despite the slight worry lingering in his mind, Howl did not let his expression reveal that anything was bothering him. Setting down his cup, he happened to notice Franz's face. His expression. His eyes. In an attempt to perhaps steer the unsuspecting Bell in the correct direction, he interjected a bit.
"I am uncertain as to whether or not I'd be able to make it to the performance. I would like to support you if possible, Miss McMahon. Perhaps you could read us a few of your lines for us?" He smiled and attempted to signal to Franz to take a seat next to him for the possible performance.

Bell nodded. "Indeed! Based heavily on the book!" She was somewhat in shock that the boy knew much more than the title of the book - let alone its author.
Then was Howl's request. The thought of breaking into song in the middle of the cafe made Bell go absolutely pale. It was one thing on stage, but another here! She bit her lip a moment, thinking upon her lines. However, noticing how he motioned to his friend, Bell decided she wasn't likely to get out of it, and keep her pride intact. "Alright, I'll share a few lines with you." She grabbed the script. "I'll start here, in act one, scene three. Lily and Rose have wondered into the maze, just as the robin trills. Rose says 'Lily, what are you looking for?' and I reply-"
Bell then sits up and says, just as she would on stage; "Wait 'til you see it. It's the most beautiful garden I ever ... and nobody knows about it except Archie, but the door is so covered over with ivy that I can never find it. Oh, wait, maybe it's on this other side!"
She then relaxes. "After that, it goes into song again." Bell now prayed that neither asked her to sing.

Franz immediately proved himself much more homosexual than a boy who merely knew the title of the book. "Come on," he coaxed. "How about the beginning of "Girl In The Valley", see if you can reach that high A, Miss Soprano. Seriously, Secret Garden isn't my thing, it's not like it's Rent or even Evita, but that's like the one genuinely beautiful duet in the entire play except for 'Lily's Eyes'."
He drummed his fingers on the table. "Have you got a good Dickon? A crappy Dickon can ruin the whole thing, and 'Wick' is like, the best Tony number in that whole showpony musical."
Franz was obviously insane.

Though Howl did enjoy reading, he was not exactly an expert about this specific book. However, to let Bell know that he appreciated her efforts, he politely clapped his hands in approval.
"Bravo, my dear. I can see that you certainly are well suited for the role." Bell mentioned singing, but seeing as she didn't just spout out the tune, perhaps she was deciding to save her voice for the performance?
In an effort to coax his roommate, Howl reached out and put a hand on his friend's shoulder. "My dear, Franz. This was just a preview. We will just have to find a way to make it to the performance, and appreciate the full splendor of the play."
Wanting to be as polite as possible, he returned his gentle gaze to Bell. "Thank you, Miss McMahon for that delightful preview. We greatly appreciate it, my dear."

Oh! Dear Howl was her savior. "It's just like Mr.Wickham said! You'll have to see for yourself at the play!" Bell then gave a grin, and shot Howl a look of thanks.
"I can answer those questions of yours though! Our Dickon is a bit off pitch, and needs to learn what a bath is, our Archibald is no tenor, and our Mary is a bit plump. But what can you do, when so few come to auditions? A majority of the time, it's all the same people, just a different play, with different characters. What we need is some fresh talent." Bell looked pointedly at Franz, a mental 'hint hint.'

Franz was thinking. Howl could tell; Franz had on his expression of brooding obsession that meant he was turning something over and over in his brain. "All right, here's my theory," he said. "You're getting non-tenor Archibalds because nobody's heard of your theatre group. I happen to have a very close friend who runs a newspaper -- " (Clark Kent, thy name was not Franz) " -- and so I figure a review of your musical would get the word out."
He shrugged. "As far as I can tell, it's like we're obligated to go. Right, Howl."

"Indeed, we are obligated to attend the performance." Lifting up his cup of tea again, he took a delicate sip. He had managed to capture the thankful glance. Were this girl someone he'd be interested in pursuing further, she would be putty in his hands.
Howl momentarily stopped sipping his tea with a thoughtful expression upon his face. It was thinking such as this that got him into trouble the last time. The school psychologist had been working with him on sorting out his thought processes and making himself more aware of moments when he relapsed to what the therapist was calling "the predator." He resumed his tea sipping and decided that he'd note this as a minor victory, noting when he was going into such a thought process.
It would be worth mentioning the next time he went for therapy.

"Well then, when we start selling the tickets, I'll be sure to hook you two up with discounts! And the newspaper article would be wonderful. Thank you, Franz!" Bell said, quite honest in her appreciation.
At least now there was something more to look forward to. The prospect of a review, and to possibly get some new people in the theatre was very exciting, and her eyes were almost a glow with determination. She'd be sure to rally the troupe up tomorrow and tell them that come production night, they better all do their very best! Bell often would keep her frustration and rants pent up inside, but one of her biggest peeves was someone forgetting their cues, lines, or blocking. IT was time to pull out the proverbial backstage whip!
