Rhian blinked and tilted her head. "What do you mean? Why do that? I have Lauss-teacher, and I don't want any of the boys the girls there want. . ." She didn't get it still. "And it's too hard, I can't keep up with anybody else, even with Lauss-teacher helping. . ."

"Them girls donnae know you ain't interested in th' lads. Frankly, neither do th' lads," Faolan chuckled, pulling one foot up on the bed to rest his arms on his knee. "It's not so much tha' they think you'll steal th' boys away, just tha' they feel insecure in their own prettiness and are transferrin' tha' ont' you. As fae th' rest o' it, well.. we can always see about droppin' you back a grade or two where th' work is easier."

Rhian shook her head. "Nu-uh, I don't want to be stupid," she said, looking rather upset and creating some cotton candy. "I want to be able to keep up with Lauss-teacher and the others. . . it's just. . . all this stuff is boring. . . how can you learn something that's not fun to learn?"

"I asked tha' a lot when I was gettin' me own education," Fao answered, shrugging. "I didnae get t' gae t' school like th' other kids. Da wanted me t' be able t' run this place when he's gone, so I was stuck wi' tutors grillin' me about math an' science an' other things I never thought I'd need. I've learned since then tha' I do use what I learned everyday."

Rhian made a face. "But I won't - I know what I'm supposed to do, and I don't need this stuff for that or I'd know it easier!" ah, the logic of a flutterby - why learn something she didn't like that had no relevance to her purpose? "That just seems silly to make me learn it!" Her face faltered, however, and she gazed into the cotton candy puff she now held. "But. . . I'm not even good at what I'm supposed to do, am I?"

"Yeah, well, sometimes I ain't so good at what I do, either," Faolan said, moving back on the bed to lean against the wall, long legs stretched out before him. "An' you might need it, you ne'er know fae sure. You Essentics are supposed t' be integrating more int' human society anyway, yeah? This is what humans do. They learn. If you're worried on your purpose, we can always gae talk to Lector or Banning."

Rhian blinked and looked at Faolan, disbelief clear in her eyes. "You, not good at what you do? That's not possible!" Faolan was good at everything, well, except making choices around Mama, and being impulsive, and. . .. . okay, well, he was good at everything he was supposed to do, pretty much. He had to be lying or something.
The flutterby was sure of it.

"Rhian, I had t' learn t' be good, an' e'en then I screw up. I've been hurt from messin' up a dance step or not doin' some acrobatics right. I canane e'en count th' times I've been beaten o'er some fortune-tellin' session gone bad," Faolan said. "An' I ain't too sure I'm all tha' good at bein' a husband or a father, either. Donnae mean I'm gonna stop, though. Just means I gotta keep tryin' an' learn more t' do better." He scooted forward and stood up. "Which reminds me, I actually hae somethin' a little important t' tell Ellandra. I wanna keep talkin' wi' you, but I wanna tell her the news real fast, okay?"

Rhian blinked. "No, I don't mind - would you tell me what it is when you come back though? I'd like to know too!" Curiosity now had the flutterby strongly in its grip, and she turned her attention to her cotton candy, working on shaping at it while she waited for Faolan to take care of his important business with Mama.
In the living room, Ellandra had managed to put a sleeping Sam into his bassinet, and was rocking just little Bel, who was being a bit fussy and refusing to go to sleep, most likely because of the pain of her little broken collarbone. The tiny, light-eyes baby blinked fuzzily up at her Mama, who leaned down and kissed her nose before resuming the lullaby she'd been singing earlier.
"And as you rest In the nest That we've made for you We'll caress And keep you blessed Never alone for the whole night through...

Faolan nodded to Rhian, heading into the front room. He peeked in on Sam, lightly ghosting his fingers over the orange hair of his son before looking at Elle, watching her with Bel. "I got some news fae you, love. It's kinda life-changin' really."

Ellandra kissed Bel on her tiny forehead, smiling as the infant's eyes finally started to close, and looked up at Faolan curiously. She should probably go ahead and put Bel in her bassinet, too, but she just didn't want her arms to be empty of a baby right now. It felt too right with at least one there, and too... wrong, without. "Hmm? Is something the matter, Faolan?" Life-changing? What did he mean, life-changing? "Is this..... is this something good. o-or something bad....?"

"I guess it depends on how you look at it," Faolan answered honestly, going to sit at Ellandra's feet. "Da's decided to stop moving Farstep around. He's gettin' older an' just not wantin' th' hassle as much anymore. He said he'll lease the other fairgrounds we hae t' little carnivals an' Farstep will stay here since this is our biggest location. The western field we keep the horses an' livestock on will be permanently turned int' a pasture for them. Th' southern field will be a giant garden for vegetables and fruits and whatnot. Th' best part, though, th' northern field is gaen t' be fixed up to build some houses on." He was bouncing a little where he was sitting on the floor. "Most didikai ain't gonna gi' up their vardos an' tents, but a few might. You an' me, though, we get th' first house. I thought we'd put it up on th' hill there an' Da will gi' us plenty o' land fae a house an' some fae a yard t' let th' bairns run about."
He smiled at her. "It's what you wanted, right? A house?"

Ellandra blinked and stared at Faolan, trying to process through all the babble he'd thrown at her and to get at his real meaning. "A. house?" she echoed, blinking again and rocking Bel, who was starting to fuss again. "W-what.... kind of a house, Faolan? And - we wouldn't have to leave or anything similar?"
In the bedroom, antennae flicked as Rhian peeked out to the living room, wondering exactly what this all meant. What was the difference between a house and the vardo? Was it bigger? Was it like Elst-plant's home? Or like Dorian-Doctor's home? This was by far more interesting than her cotton-candy shaping!

"I was thinkin' a cottage," Faolan said. "An' we wouldn't hae t' leave. I could still work fae Farstep because Farstep would be here, always here." He leaned over to hug Elle's waist, careful of his infant daughter in her arms. "The twins could get their own rooms, you could hae a room to do writin' in, and there'd be plenty o' real bathrooms."

"Real bathrooms, hmm?" Ellandra asked, tilting her head as a mischevious smile wound its way onto her face. "Hm.... where we wouldn't be....... interrupted?"
