Tsura cursed low under her breath as he hopped out of the covered wagon to survey the manage. Berit was still held tightly in her arms as she took in the sight of the missing wheels. That was far more damage than she'd expected the wagon to take crossing the river, but at least she'd survived it and lost nothing valuable. Well perhaps aside from any food stores she'd had on the wagon floor, those would be ruined now too.

Gisli gave a soft almost comforting trill as the Banya moved to drop from the sky and land gracefully on the wagon box. Tsura smiled a little at that she and her little feathered ones were fine, they had suffered a major setback but they could get through this.

Tamlin looked at the river with apprehension; she had lost her last wagon to a river crossing. If only the wagon didn't have to make it across as well swimming herself and Alais across would be no problem, cold, but no problem. Sigh She opened up her little pouch and re-counted her couplets. And again, she was short. Baptiste didn't seem to have any to spare either and the man was being unhelpfully quiet about what to do. In fact she couldn't find him anywhere. He must have gone off somewhere to deal with the wet blankets from the ordeal with the elderly gypsy they had fished out of the water earlier.

"You think you can make it?" Tamlin questioned the horses as she patted their long foreheads while feeding them a little extra grain. She took their appreciative whinnying as a sign for yes; at least she hoped dearly that was so. "Alright then, off we go"

After making sure all the important staple food was in the water tight boxes and everything else was tied down she tried to find Baptiste once more to no luck. So she settled for letting Val know her plan and to tell Baptiste to catch up on the other side.

"All right you two" Tamlin unhooked the grain sacks. "it's your turn, get us across in one piece alright." Setting the sacks inside the wagon she jumped up onto the drivers platform next to Alais and took up the reins. "lets ford this river."

The horses jump in and guide the wagon across the river with alacrity. With some effort they pull Mossy Charm up the other riverbank. As Tamlin hops from the driver's seat to inspect the contents of the wagon for water damage, she notices something glinting on the ground.

At first it looks like money, but it's a different shade of gold than most couplets (as a gypsy she's well-familiarized with the color of coin). She picks it up, and realizes it's on a chain. It's a medallion, and it looks very old and worn. Someone would likely be wanting this back. Best pocket it for later.

Just as Tamlin makes it to the other side, Baptiste re-emerges from whatever task he'd been completing. The caravan leader had alerted him that Tamlin was about to take the wagon across, and so he'd ran to the bank as fast as he could.

He slumps a little, defeated, when he sees she's already made it across. Well, he's glad she didn't destroy their wagon--his wagon, really--but still.

"Woman!" he yells across. "What the devil were you thinking? Now how'm I supposed to get across? I can't bloody swim!"

Just as Tamlin was pondering the shiny trinket she picked up off the ground she heard Baptiste across the way. She pocketed it and ran back to the river bank to respond.

"it was our turn to cross the bloody river and you were not to be found! Can't blame me." She wagged her finger back and forth at him. " No worries, you're a brave lad. I'm sure someone with spare you passage if you help with their horses. Don't worry about me, I've got everything here safe and sound"

Baptiste runs his hand through his hair and contemplates saying something most un-gentleman-like. And then he sees a wagon steering toward the ferry.

Ro watches in terror as other gypsies try to ford the river. Shivering, she shakes her head. A glance behind her tells her that her birds aren't at all happy about being near the water, and so she decides to take the ferry. She'll gladly drop the couplets to avoid drowning.

"Hey!" calls Baptiste, running toward the wagon. "Can I go across with you? Tamlin took my wagon across already, and I can't sw--er...I don't want to get wet. I don't have any couplets, but I'll...watch the kid sometime...or something...?"

Rojiza considers his offer with a sideways mouth. Finally she nods, and smiles softly at his boyish grin as he hops into the driver's bench beside her. She approaches the ferryman and guides Honeyed Aria on board.

The ferryman smiles at Rojiza and takes her 20 couplets. His smile fades as he looks to Baptiste, and sniffs with distaste. "A real man could make it across himself," he says.

They make it across safely, and the lascivious ferryman tips his cap at Rojiza. "Come again, little miss."

Caroline also opts for the safe route, and steers her wagon toward the ferry. She makes it to the dock just as the ferry returns from shuttling Ro and Baptiste across. "One passage across th' river!" she requests cheerfully, dropping her 20 couplets into the ferryman's outstretched hand.

[Hahaha, was waiting for someone to roll a 20 on the ferry. Kinda sad that it was me.]

The ferryman gives the voluptuous Caroline an up-and-down look, his eyes lingering on her blouse. "Twenty couplets? No! For a woman so beautiful I won't take more than fifteen." He gives her a wink and a smile. "Although I'll do it for ten if you'll gift me a kiss. How about it, honey?"

"Take yer fifteen," says Caroline drily, dropping the coins into his hand with multiple clinking noises. "Ye couldn't handle me even if I wanted ye. Which I don'," she adds firmly when the ferryman smiles again hopefully. "Get me safely to the other side o' the river like a good businessman." She shakes her head. "I've seen leeches with more morals," she mutters under her breath.

Zak stood on the bank looking at the river, this looked like the perfect time to ask for an executive decision, he knocked on the side of the wagon
"Hey Ki, we gotta cross a river what do you wanna do?"he asked, the muffled reply might have been "not drown" but then again it might have not.

"can't swim, and that ferry is water-way robbery, better take option number three" he muttered to himself as he got under the wagon with the mysteriously provided and anachronistic caulk gun to seal any gaps before attempting the river.

Rana gazed at the river from the shotgun seat with wary eyes in case any more suspicious persons happened to be around.

The current is stronger than Zak had originally calculated, and so the instant the wagon's in the water all the way it begins to get swept downstream. Tilting dangerously and threatening to tip over all the way, the wagon bobs merrily in the current. The bottom scrapes the rocky riverbed, and it appears you're at the mercy of the river.

[Roll a 20-sided die to try and get control of the wagon again.]
