Not a good color?

She didin't take offense, he wasn't the first she'd met to think so, though it made her terribly sad to know that her daughter would have been so poorly received if she'd been born in any other pride. Goodness, she didn't think color matterd so much to other lions, but then there -had- been that lioness that seemed to know mother, when they were children. Kimya briefly entertained the notion that all three were from the same pride, that lioness from so long ago, that passing golden male, and this golden male with her now. A pride of warriors... that despised the color yellow. How... peculiar.

"Traveling alone is very lonely, this is true, but, if one never traveled they might not meet the friends that they make along the way. Such as our meeting." She smiled, looking over at him companionably at his offer and question. "Quite large actually... but currently it's just a small pawful of us, two of my granddaughters, who are identical twins, one of my sons, and one of my daughters."

He nodded. He couldn't disagree with that statement. And though he had not met many friends before now, he was glad to have met Kimya and even more glad that they already considered themselves friends.

His smile grew a little wider. "That sounds nice. It's good to have a lot of family, especially close by." He seemed saddened for a moment, but with a shake of his head it was dispelled. "Some of my family walk these lands, I haven't seen them since I was very small, but I'm sure I'd recognise them if I saw them again. The only problem is the world is so very big. They could be anywhere. I could search for all of my days and never find them."

He realised that settling in one place would also weaken his chances further still.

"But I also learnt that you can make family in lions not of the same blood. I'll find new family."

Kimya chuckled, recalling how sad she used to feel when she thought of her own family, and she nodded with a compassionate and knowing gentleness. "Yes... this is so very, very true. My family drifted apart shortly after I grew into adolescence. Truth be told none of us looked anything like our mother, except for her eyes. I used to think that if we were separated it would be the same as losing them, but in time..."

She rumbled, catching the scent of Zebra on the wind again and adjusting their direction accordingly to head downwind to the herd.

"In time the memories become enough... and you might be surprised, this world isn't quite as big as it seems. If they are like you, of desert descent, then they may find their way to these lands as well. We often all subject to the call to return to our roots, or as close to them as possible. You may stil meet again, and in the meantime your family can only grow as you let others in."

Already she felt so maternal towards him, it was the way that he carried himself and the way that they could speak so openly. Never had she felt this comfortable around a male before, not since she was a baby. Age really did soften one's heart against the pain.

He hoped she was right. He hoped with all his heart that he might live to see his brothers again, his father, too. His mother would want that, he was sure. But right now he knew he had to do this. They were fated to meet and he was not about to turn away the one possible happiness he had in life.

Perhaps the new family he had spoken of could be found in this female and the others travelling with her.

"Memories...memories can be painful...but important, too. I could never abandon them, not even the sad ones. I just hope my family haven't abandoned their memories and forgotten me..."

But enough of that now. That was sad talk and he wanted to be happy. He was no longer alone and he had a destination, possibly even a future home. Life was looking up.

Things would not be bad forever.
