Well it looks like only two books have been nominated, so it's time to vote.

BTW if you didn't join in this thread earlier you're still welcome to join now. 3nodding

Well it looks like the Graveyard book won. So would everybody who's going to read the book please post so I have an idea how many it'll be.

Also is a week enough time to read the book?

I'm in. I have never read any of Neil Gaiman's work before, so am most interested to see what it will be like.

I read it back in January, and it only took me two days, and that only because I had to keep putting it down. A week should be plenty of time.

Glad to see so many people joining in. ^^

@OliviaFlaconer
Yeah, it is a pretty short and easy book.

So the deadline for reading it is Saturday and the discussion can start on Sunday. Try to think of something to discuss after you've read it.

Now to get my copy back from my mom...

Saturday as in October 3rd, yeah? I just wrapped up class discussion for this book Monday (Children's Lit is a core class for English majors now heart ). I'm really excited to talk about it with people because class discussion didn't go at all how I hoped. My teacher refuses to do anything less than worship all of the books we read. It's FUN to criticize while discussing, am I right?

Sure, as long as the criticism is phrased politely. "This book stinks" doesn't really help advance discussion.

Yeah I meant the 3rd of October. Unfortunately, due a big deadline at my work, I haven't had a chance to go to my parents and get my copy of the book back.

So I haven't really thought of any good questions to start the conversation. sweatdrop

Guess I'll start with did you enjoy the book? (Please say more than yes/no)

Personally I enjoyed the book. I liked the atmosphere and the characters and the fact that not everything was explained and spelled out. There are hints that Silas is a vampire, but it's never confirmed. Nor does it ever really become clear why he's in the graveyard.

Can't really think of more to say at the moment.

I really enjoyed the book. We were given a week to read it for class and I had it read by the second day. I could see the similarities to The Jungle Book, which Gaiman said he had in mind while writing it, but it was original enough to be interesting to someone who has already read Kipling's work. I also liked how the chapters were almost episodic; yes the characters were the same, but each chapter is usually four years after the previous. That gives us the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Bod in a relatively short narrative.

Along with what you liked, was there anything you thought should be different? I wish there was more of the Sleer (or maybe an explanation of what he is or why he was there. Who was his Master?). I was alone in thinking this in my class, but I also thought Bod was a fairly unchanging character (speech wise, at least), which was unbelievable to me because he went from a toddler to age fifteen in the book. My teacher just dismissed it as "Well, he lives in a graveyard!" ....He learned how to talk and read in the first place, didn't he? Why would it have stopped?
