Generation 3: (Personally I loath this generation enough to cease playing it, but I found Treeko and Mudkip as my top picks)

1. Bulbasaur
2. Cyndaquil/Totodile
3. Treecko/Mudkip
4. Turtwig/Chimchar
Those are my favorites for the following reasons:
1. Bulbasaur was my first.
2. Cyndaquil becomes Typhlosion and Totodile becomes Feraligatr
3. Treecko is a pretty sweet grass type and I liek Mudkipz because they look pretty sweet.
4. Turtwig was my first starter of this generation (Pearl) and Chimchar was my second (Platinum).
It also helps Bulbasaur that I loved my Venusaur very much in the RBY era and still tend to pull out (the D-P-Pl versions of) Overgrowth or Onslaught every once in a while just so people don't forget they're still around.

Hoenn: Treeko
Sinnoh: Turtwig
Honestly, I love all three of Kanto's starters, mainly because I played all three of them before Gold/Silver came out and grew fond of each one in turn. Same with Gold/Silver, but I gotta say, Chikorita was just meh in comparison to the others.
