He grinned and rolled into the water with a laugh his paws waving in the air in mock surrender. "So vicious!" He smiled and leapt back to his feet to shake off and lick her muzzle.

"I'm glad to have found you again Jaile, so glad..." He sat down and gave another mild shake his fur slightly damp. His green eyes focused on her more intently for a long moment before he slowly pulled his gaze away feeling warm.

Jaile almost blushed when he licked her muzzle, though thankfully she was covered in fur and her nose pure black! Still, she felt her ears burn a bit and tried hard not to over think anything. They were friends, after all . . . albeit they were both adults and he had turned rather handsome.

Ah, but so what. . . . ? It wasn't like she'd never seen another male before, surely Sly was no different. Honestly, he did look just like he had as a pup; his markings hadnj't changed and he'd grown in to his big paws. But there were other things she hadn't remembered and now focused on; like his scent, and his eyes and how fun he was to be around.

Was she so sheltered or in need of friendship. . .? Maybe. Maybe not. Still, it was good to be reunited and even more amazing how willing he was to pick things up where they had left off. He hadn't really changed, but then, did she even know him all that well? Even as pups, he'd been her little savior but otherwise they hadn't really gotten to know one another.

They came from two different worlds. . . . She lived during the day, he at night; she was a beach dweller, he a woodlands boy. How much common ground was there really. . .?

Well, at least now they could find out. Eyes bright, she allowed her tail tip to wag happily behind her. "Me too," she murmured appreciatively, pawing lightly at the ground. "I still am shocked that after all these years it finally happened. . . .Funny how things work out, I guess," she added with a small shrug.

Bowing her head for one last drink, an excuse to gather her thoughts, she whirled back around to face her pelted friend. "Shall we then. . . ? I don't want to hold you up anymore than I have," Jaile smiled lightly, circling the damp wolf inquisitively.

He watched her curiously, there was just something there, something about her that he hadn't quite caught onto before. He shook his head and smiled with a nod, he could think about it later, no doubt she would be central focus in his thoughts now. "Yeah lets, you can show me around your home."

He smiled and moved alongside her bumping into her with soft playful nudges that let his fur and the raccoon pelt comb along with hers. He felt so drawn to her, she was such a pleasant reminder of simpler things, yet there was something so complex, a strange feeling inside of him now that he had never felt before. As playful as he was acting he could feel his muscles bunch in awareness, ready to defend her. Strange, so strange...

Jaile just couldn't help but be on cloud nine. Though she loved her pack, it was a bit isolated so close to the ocean. Furthermore, it wasn't a very big pack and so meeting strangers or new friends was a bit difficult. Getting lose so many years ago had been one of the best blessings of her life. . . .She had been able to meet a crafty little wolf and he had saved her and helped guide her home.

Strange now to see him full grown.

They had much to catch up on and yet she knew their time together was limited. Still, she'd do her best to make the best of it. No need to think about parting again so soon. "Of course! Have you seen the ocean before?" She questioned, unsure where his travels had taken him. Part of her hoped he hadn't, because there was very little she could offer the slightly older wolf. He lived such a mysterious life and one that was much more active than she. . . . What could she show him that might interest him? There were sandy beaches and rocky caves. . . the great waves and water. . . . Though Jaile loved them, it was all she knew, and was sure there were much more impressive things out there than just the beach.

She trotted next to him, a smile on her features and a warm glow in her gaze. Something made her giddy whenever their body touched, though whether or not it was just the touch of a stranger or that of Sly she couldn't say. The day was just far too good for her to think clearly, that was all. . . . and so that's why she was acting so goofy, yes? Right. It must be.

Still, she allowed her hip and tail to rest along his as a bit of a constant, every now and then curling her tail with his or at least letting it wag so it might brush up against his own. It just felt pleasant, that was all. . . womanly charms, that was it, right? Right.

"No I'm afraid not, it's a bit too open for my tastes, I tend to explore east in the dark forest. There are caverns so deep you would think the sun didn't really exist, and water under the ground thats so pure you can't see it until you touch your nose to it and realize it's really there." She smiled and brushed the memory away.

"The ocean...I've heard it's vast and violent, is it true? My father lived near the ocean when he was a pup..." He added as an afterthought enjoying sharing things with her.

In truth his mind was occupied with the pleasant feeling of her fur, the way her tail brushed his. He could picture her in the darkness, not a frightened pup this time, but happy to be there. He felt a deep tugging low in his stomach and for a moment he wanted to take her back with him into his world of night-time happiness. He held back a sigh though trying not to let his expression falter as he looked at her from the corner of his eye. The sun was lower now and cast a beautiful glow against her paler colors. No, Jaile was not a creature of darkness, she belonged here in the open beauty and the sunlight. He tried to picture himself there too, but all he could imagine was a shadow lurking at the edges...watching her. He might as well try and steal a piece of sunshine and hide it underground for all the good it would do him.

The scent of salt grew heavy in the air as they walked. The trees of the nearby woodlands had changed and began to grow more sparse; even the ground on which they walked began to change. The soft grasses transformed in to rock and sand, with various sharp grasses sticking out in patches. The cry of gulls could be heard as well as the low crashing of waves against the shore.

It wouldn't be long now. . . .

And while she was pleased to get to show him the ocean. . . her ocean. . .Jaile also understood that it meant goodbye was all the closer. She didn't want to lose him to the night, not again. . . The last time her friend had disappeared for years. And though reunited once again, she worried that he would be swept away just as swiftly as he had rolled in. It just wasn't fair.

But such things were inevitable. "There are a few cavern's in the hills near my pack, but they're dangerous to travel, especially if the tide comes in. I've never been anywhere so dark before," she added, intrigued by the idea but also a little frightened. To never see the sun, to never sleep in its warmth or watch its fiery glow at dawn or dusk. Sly was stained with night, while her own coat was tipped with the orange of day.

Still, the night hadn't been so frightening, not with Sly nearby. "It's incredibly vast, but not always violent. It is beautiful, and has it's charm and allure. . . but one must never take it for granted. It gifts us with food but it can take it all away. There are some very violent storms that roll in and the water can pluck a wolf from shore he stands on if he's not careful. Beautiful but deadly. . . .I guess that's the nature of many things though, unfortunately." Even Sly could kill if he wished, just as she had the potential and power to do.

Still, she offered him a smile. "Perhaps you'll find a little beauty on the shore too. Come on," she encourged, reaching over to nose his shoulder playfully. "We're not far. I'll take you to the sandy shores. . . that way you can meat the ocean first hand!" Giggling lightly, Jaile bolted forward, knowing full well her friend would follow.

It didn't take long, after making it up a small dune the ocean spread itself before them. Jaile wasted no time, never once stopping as she darted towards the crashing and rolling waves. They were thick and foamy, but she wasn't afraid. "Come to the edge, feel the water on yours paws!" Completely in her element, the petite wolfess ran along the shoreline before turning around, allowing the salty waters to soak her paws.

Chest heaving, beaming back at her friend, she watched and waited for Sly to join her. They came at a perfect time, with the sun sinking in to the water and the first evening stars beginning to twinkle and shine above. Jaile always loved evening, but to share it with a friend was even better.

Sly felt...uneasy, not afraid but simply out of his element as the terrain changed around them and the sun struck his dark pelt illuminating the bands of white on it. He had been raised in darkness, when the sun rose he had slept, when the moon touched the sky he had accepted her soft glow. In the darkness he was a perfect blend, he could slink unnoticed through the shadows. He could don any pelt of his mothers and watch those creatures without the light ever letting them know he wasn't one of their own.

Yet here, here it was different, not bad he supposed simply strange and new. He glanced at Jaile and softly smile...strange, new, and beautiful he amended. His paws grasped at the sand getting used to its texture quickly, at least he was fast to adapt. "The tide? When the ocean moves it merges with these caverns?" Hmm that would explain some of the lovely underground springs he had found. As she described the ocean he was struck again by how much her home meant to her, and in her eyes he could see all the beauty and violence she spoke of.

I think I already found a beauty on the shore...He thought with an inner smirk, he couldn't help it. Jaile was so...bright, but not in a bad way, not in that harsh glaring brightness that made him avert his eyes and heated his fur to unbearable warmth, until he wished his mother would skin him. Jaile was bright and soft, like a little ball of fie illuminating the path, a soft caress of warmth on a cold night. He dashed after her eager then and his nose tingled with the scent of salt.

He stopped then in awe, it was so immense! His eyes could not see as far as the great ocean spread out before them. Who knew anything could be so large, the waves thrashed and rolled about and as he saw Jaile heading into them his heart gave a pound of fear. He ran after her afraid the ocean would simply swallow her up and take her from him.

He chuckled then relaxing as he saw how at home she was, she had probably played like this ssince she was a pup. He tested the water with a wary paw before smirking and dashing along the shoreline and back to her and then running after a wave with a growl. He jerked and turned to run away as the wave came back in and soaked him from the tail down. He laughed and shook off happily, the sun was almost gone now, casting a glow over the water, it made him feel better.

"It is beautiful..." He finally murmured as he came closer to her again.

Jaile giggled as she raced along the shore, turning back to watch as her friend also approached the waters. How he chased a wave further out to sea only to retreat as a wave soaked him from the tail down. Silly wolf. . . the water retreated for long.

As he approached, she heaved a small sigh as she turned out to stare at the ocean. The sun was beginning its final decent, and it wouldn't be long until the rich fire reds and oranges were overwhelmed by blue and black. The stars were getting brighter and the sunset was giving its final fight of light for the day.

"I like to think so," she responded lightly, turning her gaze away to look over at her frend. "It's the only home I've known though," she added with a little chuckle. "I know it's different than what you're used to. But I'm glad you came. . . " She smiled lightly, feeling it faulter and quickly looking back out at the ocean.

It was endless.

Their meeting, unfortunately, was not. " . . . it'll be night soon. And I really shouldn't keep you . . . " But hopefully they could meet again, right? Maybe. . . if the spirits smiled down on her.

He sat by her and gave his paws a little shake, but the sand wouldn't come off that easily, he would have to walk it off. He ignored it for the moment and watched as darkness swept it's way over everything. His mother told him that it was the sun that always had to concede to the darkness. 'You do not see the moon bowing away when the light comes in, no it is only the sun that slinks off and hides when night approaches.' She had told him and then very late he had stayed awake to watch the dawn come, and indeed he could still see the moon as she hovered faint in the sky. He should like very much to stay with Jaile now...even if she couldn't see him, he wished he could just be nearby incase she wanted him. Still, he knew better, this vast open space was not one he was used to and he felt his stomach give a slight grumble. It was time for breakfast and to check on his family.

"I'm glad I came as well...it's different, but not bad, it's very beautiful." He moved a bit closer then his eyes seeking hers.
"You're very beautiful Jaile...I should like to come see you again? Soon? Could I come visit you tomorrow night?" He asked hopefully.

Jaile felt completely at ease as the ocean rolled in and out, it's frothy white foam trickling as if reaching for them only to be pulled back to darkness. Though night settled over them, the wolfess could only enjoy each moment, to share the sunset with her shadow companion and be glad that they were reunited once more.

Unlike Sly, though, she never witnessed the sun's set in to the horizon as a battle or war. She saw it as natural and the order of things; the sun gave night a chance to shine as it too turned in to sleep and recuperate for the next day. There was an equal power between night and day, as far as she could tell. . . . a peace from one to the other.

Something in Sly's voice caused a moment of sadness to pass over the wolfess. She knew, as he spoke of the land being beautiful, that he was preparing to take his leave of her. They had spent the evening together, but just as it was time for her to return to her family and sleep. . it was time for him to start his day. She wouldn't keep him, of course, but it saddened her to know that they would once again part.

But his next words caught her off guard, and made her turn to look at him. Did he just call her beautiful? Bashfully, the female glanced away, feeling her nose and ears flush. She knew there were beautiful and exotic wolves out there - some with gorgeous patterns or matching colours of all the rainbows. She was nothing extraordinary. . . Mostly cream and a dark, dark brown. . . with a few odd splashes of orange after her father. She was no beauty queen. . . but somehow, Sly saying it, made it all the more important that he thought as much.

"You're far too kind," she added, though she cherished the words. Looking back up at him, practically beaming as he asked to come see her again, she nodded. "I would. . . I would like that very much Sly. We have some making up to do after all this time," she added happily, chuckling as her tail tip began to wag in pleasure.

"Would you like me to meet you at the dunes, where the shore meets the start of the woods?" That way he wouldn't have to come out in the open and feel so vulnerable. So what if she stayed up all night waiting for him. . . . it would be worth it to spend time with her pelted friend again.

He watched the way his words made her modesty come out, it was amusing to him that she hadn't realized how beautiful she was. She looked suddenly shy and he chuckled softly shaking his head. "Not kind, just truthful, flattery is hardly my style." He smirked.

His tail matched hers giving an eager wag as she agreed to meet with him again. He nodded glad to know she also wanted to see him, making up lost time, yes that was right. He moved in to give her a soft nuzzle and nodded.
"I'll meet you there...and then take you to my special place." He grinned and gave her muzzle a tender lick before running off back into the dark dense forest.
