Ayla dove down to a lake, just barely missing the water to instead land on a low cliff with a thud. Another bruise marred her moon covered fur as she lay on her side, tears streaming down her cheeks. She thought that pain had been tucked away, that it would never hurt again. But now here she was sobbing by herself, looking as pathetic as she felt.
Lunar looked to Jay, relaxing enough to let a few tears drip. "I'll be alright. I promise." He nuzzled her lovingly, his tears quickly drying, though his face stung where the claws had dug in. "Let's go find a den...because I want you to be my mate Jay..." He smiled as brightly as he could.

Selene followed behind the saddened lioness and landed softly, so as not to startle her. "Ayla?" she said softly, "Dear what's wrong?" Selene's tone had turned motherly. It was a natural instinct for her anymore to comfort another that way. "Tell me what's wrong, maybe I can help."
Jaya nodded and licked his cheek. She was taken aback at the question and froze for a moment. After the intense situation and then this all of a sudden, it took her a moment to soak it all in. "Lunar . . . I," she paused and smiled, "I'd love to!" Jay jumped into the air and ran around him once, before coming back to nuzzle him.

Ayla didn't answer at first as Selene landed nearby. More tears fell, sinking into the dirt. "Nobody can help Selene...my mate left me when Lunar was just a baby...she took my other son with her..."
Lunar pulled his mate to him, licking her cheek as she nuzzled him. Things were rushed, but he had to say it then. Now things could move past pain and they could live their happy life together.

Selene nodded in understanding, "Ayla I'm sorry . . ." she had no idea what to do or say. She could only stand there like an idiot, speechless and clueless. Taking a couple steps so she was standing next to Ayla, Selene draped a wing over the lioness. "If you ever need a friend, I'm right here. Now tell me all about it, maybe there is something we can do. Maybe you don't really have to lose Lunar. Just think of the grandkids you'll have," she didn't like the thoughts much, but she wanted to comfort Ayla in any way she could.

"I don't want grandcubs...not yet..." She moved closer to the other lioness feeling the warmth of the wing. It gave comfort and she needed it now. For a long while she simply lay there, laying on her side beneath Selene's wing. Eventually, sapped of strength, Ayla fell asleep, too upset and tired to bother moving.

Selene nodded and layed down next to the lioness, her wing still draped over her. She crossed her front paws and lay her head on them in a comfortable position. Selene closed her eyes and soon drifted off into a world of dreams.
