Cap-n Jack
so i take dance mainly at my public school.
which is the education kind of school, not a dance school. yeah <<;

ANYWAYS.
there are a lot of people my sister and i know of
that say they've been taking dance in studios for like, 8+ years and such
so you'd think they'd be pretty well-trained and stuff.

.....

BUT THEY SUCK
D:

like, seriously, they can't even do a pirouette without getting at least half the technique wrong, their posse foot is all non-pointed, their posse's not even all the way up, their arms are everywhere, they fall out of a SINGLE...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH gonk

like
WHY ARE YOU EVEN SAYING YOU'VE BEEN TAKING DANCE FOR THAT LONG? D:<<<

well, that's just my little rant. c: care to share any thoughts?
well it just might be they have been trained wronng so they may not have been taought how to do a peret with out sticking out there butt so just leave alone and snicker behind their backs

Well, there's talent and a few other factors. I kind of have to admit that my dancing sucks, but then I haven't been dancing for as long as others.

I have to argee that I hate people that go "I've been to :famous expensive studio place: for :long time:!" to try and make themselves look good when they actually aren't as good as they say they are. :/

Here's my story: I was dancing ballet since I was four until I was ten, and jazz from the time I was seven until I was fourteen. I moved when I was ten and started dancing just jazz in a new place and after four years with her she refused to move me up to advanced jazz because I "wasn't good enough" and she was doing this to my best friend, a jazz dancer of four years. And we realized it wasn't because we were bad dancers, quite the contrary, it's because we were big curvy girls.

I've met tons of people who think they're all that because they go to a certain studio. They're always bragging that they can do all these tricks and stuff, but it's always because their studios focus on tricks and not on technique.

For instance, this one girl was bragging that she could do pointe at school, and she was showing people at school. Then she was doing all this stuff, but she couldn't get on her block. Then when my friend and I wore ours at school one day (we were ballerinas for the day because it was spirit week) she was all like, "do you have built in arches?" and she continued to brag to us. Yet, I don't find her that great. I hate it.

I hate it when people do that. Personally, I don't even count the first few years that I danced because they didn't really help me and it doesn't really show. Also, I know a lot of people just starting out who are really good, so doing it for a long time doesn't have a whole lot to do with how good you are.

I know what you mean...I absolutely HATE people like that...it's usually worse when they brag about how "amazing" they are, and then when you watch them you wanna puke.

I respcet people who really do try hard and arent all that good yet, but when people act like they're awesome I feel like shooting them, even if they actually are good...because I mean how is it gonna help you if you just brag to people who arent as good?

That is a really good way to make sure people are not going to think that you are so full of yourself because you've had that many years of dance-experience, great tip!

yea i heard some people like that and seen some. well i guess some people don't have that kind of passion for dancing or sometimes their teacher might not be an expert doesn't correct the students technique early before they make it a bad habbit.

All of the studios in my town are like that. (That is the reason I go in another town.)
They are all like, "OHMyGOD Im soo good at dance! You suck, just because you dont take dance at our studio!" When really the young kids at our studio are better than the teachers and company there. I'm dead serious.

Well I'll admit it, I love telling people the studio I went to because it is, quite literally, the best one around here. But then I always add in the same breath "but I'm one of the worst there!". It always impresses people at college because I'm classically trained and none of them have ever done Ballet, tap or jazz before. But then you see me at hip-hop or street dance and you just have to laugh! Gah, I can't do those moves at all, haha.

I guess I am a dance snob but I know my weaknesses and I love to praise others and make them feel good about their abilites.

I've always been put down by those way better than me and those not quite so good as me so I know how it feels. Most girls who brag about their abilites and put you down is because they're insecure about their skills and are trying to eliminate the competition. Sounds far fetched but it's true, I've seen it!

yea i've dances for 8 years. im 13 btw. anyway. so im not AWESOME but i learn really fast. Im only JUST learning fouettes and calypsos because this year is my first year of competing. then there a 15 year old and a 17 yar old and they both hav dances for 13 yearsand neither of them are very good. thn there are threee other girls who r 10 11 and 12 and have danced for 3 years each and they have double calypsos, fouettes, tripple pirouettes, 12 oclock needles and are accomplished gymnasts. so the way i figur it is it clicks for some people and other dont get it that well

I personaly think it depends on the dancers opinon of how important it is to them. Weather they commit themselves or not is how seriously they take it. I mean it doesnt matter if they have been taking dance for 3 or 13 years. If they have taken dance for 3 years and practice everyday, they stretch all the time, and dance 6 days a week then yes, they are going to be better than the person that has taken for 13 years, doesnt really stretch too often, never practices at home, and dances one day week. Some people are more serious about it than others too. Some just dance for fun and some people dance to compete. But thats just my opinion. sweatdrop

It's kind of the opposite for me... I dance at my high school...and there are girls who have been on the team for 3 or 4 years and then there are some who have that plus extra dance outside of shcool, and they are like really good in my opinion and it makes me feel like i suck sweatdrop

But I know what you mean though... when we had tryouts in december there was this one girl...she was like WOW...so I thought... It was obvious that she had taken extra classes of some sort. she had excellent extensions and pointed toes...the works, but she didn't make the team. But I guess you cant always rely on your studio trainnig if you can't manipulate it to work in other places for dance.

I am going into my 8th year of dance, but I know that I am still not very good, and I know girls in my class who have been dancing longer but arn't as good. One of our top dancers who was invited to New York City Ballet, only started like 5 or so years ago, and she is 15. It doesn't matter how long you have spent dance, but how much effort over that time you have spent dancing. I am just now starting to become a much better dancer than I was because I am now old enough to realize how much work and effort I need to put forth to become a usable dancer.
