Staring blankly into the crowd, Olivia nodded, "Tragic, I guess. You wonder if some deserved it, but with how many people just up and getting whacked lately..." a pause to take a quick drag of her cigarette, "Could be just a dude killing people to get his jollies off, could be something bigger...dunno."

Mrs. Klaus nodded again enthusiastically. "It's a sign of the end times! The Antichrist has had his way with the world for too many years, and now his time is ending, so he's damning as many souls as he can before Jesus comes back. The aliens and Bat Boy aren't helping, either, though the Enquirer says he changed his ways yesterday and might be on our side now. Either way, the government's sending assassins after him again. But, you know, the ghost of Ivan the Terrible is..."

Her nattering continued on indefinitely from there. The only things of note were that A) she wanted to protect her little angel daughter, her Indigo Child from all this, and B) she didn't believe for a minute in all these stories of people suddenly having demonic powers--it must be a government cover story, because people like that wouldn't be able to hide from the Enquirer.

Jarred bowed his head as Nicholas was lowered into the ground, dressed in a fine black suit, his hair showing that attempts had been made to tidy it up, however futile.
Nicholas had been a friend of his grandfathers, and had been there when he passed away, so it was only right for Jarred to do the same. He didn't know the Corey's as well as some of the people, and hadn't kept in touch after the passing of his grandfather, but he wasn't heartless.
After he was lowered, he walked over to Roxanna, offering to shake her hand. "It was too early for him, Mrs. Corey. I grieve for you."

"The Guard is meant to help people, period. In a city plauged with seemingly random murders, and there's a lot of people who want to see you in the ground next to Nicholas for something you didn't do... Well, you're going to need a friend. One that can back you up."

"But there are people who need the help more than I, and limited resources." Roxanna gave Marcus an odd look,"You assume I didn't have anything to do with it rather quickly." She remained quiet, neither claiming or denying her innocence.

She turned her attention briefly to Jarred, she watched him a moment, seeing if he was being genuine before she took the offered hand. "Don't grieve for me, Jarred Flint."

"You lost a loved one, grievance is why I'm here." Jarred shrugged. "Take care, Mrs. Corey, losing a loved one is never fun."

Marcus crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow.
"Innocent until proven guilty, Roxanna. Not the other way around. If you are in need of assistance, do not hesititate to call me. I am all to willing to assist."

Roxanna nodded to Jarred, "No. No it's not. Thank you for coming, Jarred Flint."

Roxanna glanced to Marcus afterwords, her eyes slightly wary, "That's a mindset which could be dangerous, Marcus Shippe. But why are you so certain I'll be in need of your assistance?"

Smothering her cigarette underfoot, Olivia cut in, "Ummm, sorry to be so blunt 'mam, but you do know that magazine is a buncha BS, right?"

"Me? I have no reason to be so certain, but I follow my gut," He shrugged, "And I'm going to help. I have no reason not to help you."

"Hmpf!" she replied, miffed. "It's a newspaper, little missy. Shows what you know." She went back to watching the funeral, nose up in the air and pretending to ignore the other woman.

"Any old yokel can make a newspaper, but that doesn't mean it's reliable," she searched her pockets for her lighter and continued, "Just because it's in print doesn't make it so. Things can be skewed, photos can be edited, statistics can be twisted in your favor. Even accredited people and businesses have been known for it, I just can't believe you picked the most unbelievable batch of obvious crap to blindly follow."

Finding her lighter had fallen on the grass next to her foot, she scooped it up, and continued her normal ritual of lighting her next smoke, "But, you can't convince them all. To each their own...so believe what ya wanna, 'mam. Not my problem."

Roxanna mulled it over in her mind a bit. The concept a little different than how she usually looked at it. "I will take that into consideration," She said softly.

The crowd was soon directed to walk past the coffin, given a flower to drop on top of it. Roxanna excused herself from Marcus to drop a white rose over the coffin, and whispered a few words that were heard by no one else.

He watched her with interest, and followed the lead of the others, motioning for Lou to follow with, and dropping a rose on the coffin.

"H--HMPF!" Like most ignorant people who's beliefs are challenged, she didn't have a very good answer. "Well--you have to have faith! I know they're right about it, at the Enquirer. You see what I seen, you know. Gotta open your eyes, see the truth! Don't let those government charts and paid-off guys to tell you right. Just want the money from tricking you--the Enquirer doesn't! they don't get paid hardly anything, but they're out there risking their lives every day to get you fool folks the truth!"

As the crowd moved forward, Mrs. Klaus preened and strode forward in the most ridiculous way, like she was trying to look well-to-do and important but didn't know how. Like everyone else, she dropped a flower over his coffin... but first, she looked around suspiciously and held it to her nose--and spat in it. The Enquirer said the witch had put tracers in the flowers to hear what everyone was saying, but they could be deactivated by spitting on them. Mrs. Klaus didn't want one of those following her home! Things like that had no business around her little girl.

Roxanna stood to the side, quietly watching and waiting.

After the flowers, the first shovel of dirt was cast and soon the ceremony was over, the crowds beginning to disperse.

Marcus was one of the last to leave, head held low in respects to Nicholas. Lou stood at his side, silent and watching the goings-on around him, especially keen on Roxanna.
