Oriel bounded off to the left after her acceptance and didn't stop until he made it to the pond. He never looked back to see if she was following, but she could follow his scent if he got out of her sight.
He looked in all directions before bending his head down and lapping up some of the fresh water. The pond was nice and full from the storm the night before.

Carmen followed at a slower pace, losing sight of the orange Nova, but still being able to follow him. She wondered if he actually lived here in the forest. It wasn't doubtful, but he had still needed a place to stay the night before. Where was his den?
The trees opened up, and she was surprised by the beauty of the small, glittering pond. It was clear and she could even see some fish swimming in the shallows as she approached.
"This is beautiful." She said out loud once she stopped at the edge. She hadn't really seen a body of water bigger than a stream in the hills.

Oriel watched her take a drink and waited until she was done. She didn't seem so bad... Maybe they could be friends. She was the first Nova that didn't attack him upon encounter.
As soon as she lifted her head from the pond he pressed his body to the ground for a few seconds and then pounced, landing right on her feathery tail.

Carmen was still staring out at the water when she felt the other Nova pounce on her tail. Out of reaction, she swung around and faced him, her fur puffing out a little along her back.

Oriel flattened his ears against his head lowed his body to the ground. "I was just playing." He squeaked as he took a few steps back.

The red nova blinked a few times, and then felt a wave of embarrassment sweep over her. Her fur lied flat and she tried to stand up straight. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to..." she began to say, then started over. "I'm just a little jumpy, it's not your fault. I wasn't sure what was on my tail."

Oriel slowly came up off the ground, wondering what she was so jumpy about. She obviously was a loner, and that was probably hard on a young Nova. He was starting to find that out himself. "How long have you been on your own?" He asked her, curious.

That question was a bit unexpected. Carmen didn't really try to think about her old home much or how long it'd been since she left. She shrugged a little, trying to seem casual. "A couple of seasons, I guess."

A couple seasons? She was older than he was then. He could hardly tell though because of her size. He looked over towards the pond, debating on whether or not he should say anything else. She might lose interest in him if she knew how little time he had been on his own. "I still haven't found a permanent home yet." He ended up saying.

So he didn't live in the forest! "Me either. Kind of... obviously." She answered, letting out a small sigh. "It seems like none of the places I go to are the right home for me. It's like I'm looking for something, but I don't know what."

Oriel obviously hadn't been searching as long as she had, but he still really wanted to find a nice safe place to stay. And it wasn't the best idea to be wandering out on their own being such young Nova. "Maybe we could... I don't know." He said down and looked at the ground. "Maybe we should stick together until we find some place. Just so we can be safe." He added the last part quickly. She seemed like a nice Nova unlike a lot of others he'd come across.

Carmen was surprised by the idea suddenly coming from the other Nova's mouth. Stick together? It seemed weird at first, but as it processed she realized it wasn't that bad of an idea. "That sounds like it'd be nice." She answered. "It's safer. And living alone is kind of lonely..."

"Well if we're going to be sticking together then we might as well introduce ourselves!" He said, the excitement showing in his voice. "I'm Oriel."

A little smile appeared on Carmen's face when she saw how excited he was. He must be pretty young, she guessed. Younger then her at least. "I'm Carmen." She replied to him. "Nice to meet you, Oriel."

Oriel smiled when he learned Carmen's name. She was the first Nova that he was going to get to know since he had been out on his own. "Nice to meet you too." He said, looking out across the pond.
He was easily distracted when he saw a few fish swimming near the edge. Remembering how hungry he was, he got a little closer and then pounced into the water, splashing Carmen. A couple seconds later he came back out with a fish between his jaws.
