Hoshi nodded, watching Zero for a long silent minute as he considered what to tell her. "I... thank you for looking for me," he offered after a moment. "I don't know exactly what happened. It's a little like a dream, everything already mostly faded away. I remember Shina asking me to watch over our child... but that's it." Though really, that was all that mattered.

"I will no matter what," he added after a moment, jaw tensing a little at the thought that he might somehow let them both down. "Even if he's not exactly a child any longer."

The features of the blue and black haired woman pulled into a thoughtful frown. "You've seen Shina ?" ...Where was she, then ? "I have not seen her for a good year... I should have thought she left to find you again. Though she... never warns anyone when she does that. Even less Sei..." It had started to wear on her slightly. And Sei...

...She feared that bridges were burned that would be hard to rebuild.

Hoshi licked his lips as he considered his answer before speaking. "I think... I saw a dream of her," he offered finally. "I hope that, had it been her in the flesh, she might've stayed." And there was that whole bizarre memory of his skin turning into pure light... yeeeah, definitely a dream. "But what she asked in the dream is exactly what she would've asked of me had she been standing before me, I believe. So I will honor it."

As to her never warning Sei... "I'm sure that she felt that you were the best guardian for Sei," Hoshi said firmly. "And that she could trust that Sei would be safe and happy in your care." It was the only reason he could imagine that would keep Shina from talking to Sei about going off to search for Hoshi himself that made any sense to him. And then a thought occurred to him. "...Is he?"

"He is." At least, she thought so. It was hard to tell what Sei actually thought sometime, behind those blank eyes of his, and even if he had come out of his shell considerably... The cyborg could tell he still held the matters closest to his heart sorely to himself. And that... was fine.

Hoshi nodded, trusting in Zero's response. She knew Sei far better than he did, and he was in no position to argue it. And really, he didn't even want to. It soothed his heart, a little, to think that whatever else might happen, at least Sei was happy where he was. "And you?" he prompted quietly. "Are you happy?"
PostPosted: Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:46 pm

"...Mostly." She admitted, though she did not go into greater detail. Life had thrown her many lemons in the past years, and one had been rather sour to swallow, but she was fine now. At least, she liked to think so.

Nothing would have come out of it anyway, she still tried to convince herself. But it was a still a rather sour lemon.

Sei himself, however, was far from one. Even if he did threaten to turn her hair white pre-emptively sometimes.

Elsewhere, and rather unaware, Sei had finished his shift, reaching for his cellphone to his belt and flipped it on, only to get a voice message notice and... flee the store like a bat out of hell, without even bothering to change first and nearly forgetting his backpack behind, probably at the amusement of his close friend and boss. He knew he would likely owe some explanation later, but at the moment he did not care.

Hoshi. His father. His father. He was here. After he had not heard back from the man that had tracked him down, he had began to think that this, too had been a fruitless path. Or that perhaps, his father wanted nothing to do with him as he secretly thought might be the case with his mother.

...He had no idea what to think about all this. Or what to even expect, or how Hoshi would react upon seeing him. Knowing him.

In thought, however, he noticed belatedly he had just biked past the shop, and the loud screech of breaks, the faint smell of warm plastic and a rather creative one-feet-down u-turn later, that was easily solved, the bicycle was hurriedly discarded against one wall, and he all but bolted in...

...Only to end face to face with his father, and for a moment, there was nothing, and he could not help but stare as if he was not quite sure the other man was real. At least, with no pupil in his eyes to speak of, it was hard to tell he was staring. But as it, Zero was quite sure his orbs had stilled for half a second, even his most instinctive control of them slipping for that long, almost as if his brain had an hiccup.

It was like starting in a mirror. A slightly (only slightly) taller, darker mirror. "I... um... .......Hi ?"

This was Sei. There was no doubt about it in Hoshi's mind, even if Sei was THAT much older than he'd expected. Hoshi could almost feel the bit of Shina that was in him, and he blinked, offering a weak, hesitant smile as he openly stared at his son.

He was a good-looking boy, Hoshi decided, as he took in the pale, pupil-less eyes, the golden hair, the circuitry-design on Sei's cheek. There were orbs floating around Sei that reminded Hoshi a bit of the stars he'd once sported. Like a memory emerging from the misty realm of dreams, he recalled reaching up and grabbing one of the stars, splitting it in half, and handing it over to... And then the memory was gone again, and he was back to staring.

And to beginning to smile. Sei had come. Whatever he wanted to say, he was at least willing to meet with his father. And that alone gave Hoshi hope. "Hi," he offered quietly, pride gleaming in his eyes as he sized up Sei again and found nothing lacking. "You're... bigger than I expected." As greetings went, it wasn't perfect. But perfection was hard when your throat was half-clogged with a million words wanting to tumble out.

Bigger than he'd expected. Such an odd first thing to say, but at the same time oddly fitting. He'd always been bigger than people expected, to be honest. "...Yeah, I get that often."

...Damnit, brain, think of something to say...

"Im glad that you're okay." ...Well, that was better than nothing at all.

Zero was watching, silently, and then sent a side-glance at Mireille. The kind of side-glance that mean that, perhaps, they should leave these two to their privacy.

Hoshi swallowed at the words, nodding slowly. "I'm... not sure what happened," he admitted, taking no notice of Zero or Mir as he watched Sei. "I would not have willingly stayed away, though," he added quietly.

Funny, how all the words seemed to jam up in his throat when he tried to figure out exactly what to say next. "I... had a dream about your mother," he finally offered. "She woke me reminding me that I had to watch over you." He paused, eyes looking Sei up and down wryly before he quirked a smile. "Though... I think you might be able to look after yourself pretty well already."

"I see..." He said with a nod. "Well, you're here now. It's... what truly matters, right ? The past is gone and we can't change it."

The future, however... That was a different matter. He said nothing to the mention of his mother, afraid he might ******** up somehow, though there was some solace at being able to hide that as, by all apparences, his father was not an empath like his mother. Knowing that Shina could read his emotional patterns like a book had always bothered him slightly, even if he knew the angel had never meant ill from it.

Hoshi breathed a slow sigh of relief at Sei's words, nodding. "Yes," he agreed quietly. "I'm here now... and I want the chance to get to know you." There, it was said blatantly, leaving no room for Sei to worry or fret about just why his father was back. Father... such a strange designation when Sei looked so close to the age that Hoshi himself felt.

He glanced around the shop, noting belatedly that somewhere along the way, Mir had slipped out. But that didn't really take up much of his attention as he caught sight of... "Chairs over there. Would you like to sit and talk for a while?"

And, on that matter, Zero was also nowhere to be found.

"Erm, sure..." It was only then, however, that the teen apparently caught a glance of himself...

Still in work uniform.

"...Just a second." Flinging his bag back on his shoulder, Sei trailed his way to the bathroom to change.

Not quite sure what had just happened, Hoshi nodded, moving to sit down and wait. He was almost holding his breath as he wondered whether Sei was having second thoughts about all this. But... he'd said 'just a second', not 'no', so it was likely Hoshi's own nerves that were trying to convince him that things were going south.

There was indeed the sound of rustling coming from the bathroom, as well as a few sounds of impact of the youth's body against the walls of the small room, though oddly enough there was no muttering or yelp of pain to follow it.

And the tink, tink, tink of glass impacting hard surface.

Over by the window, in Iris' tails, multiple sets of small ears perked up in unison.

It was evident when the teen finally exited the bathroom what this had been all about - now wearing a white tanktop and jeans, with fingerless gloves, rather than his previous work uniform. Sei made his way and sat near his father.

...He should be thinking of something to say right about now, shouldn't he ?

"You look good," Hoshi offered, his voice a little awkward as he watched Sei settle into a seat. His eyes lifted to the orbs, watching them thoughtfully for another moment before his hands settled into his lap, fingers lacing together. That was the easiest way to keep from reaching out and touching one. He had to wonder if they felt like his stars always had. "So... what do you do, anyway?"
