His look turned sour the minute Nahuatl was mentioned.

"My god speaks that sometimes," he muttered. "I think he calls me idiot v'ith it. It certainly sounds that v'ay. And then he laughs, and laughs, and the only v'ay I get revenge is to punch him in the mirror."

It already had a few cracks in it, and Valeriu had long since determined that the mirror was somewhat connected to Tezcatlipoca himself. Probably considering the god didn't quite come in legally, so he'd had to establish a proper connection in other ways.

Like embedding a mirror in Vale's chest. That was a good idea. Oh yes.

"Your God does? Maybe he is Aztecan as well, then." Zyanya cracked a small smile. She wasn't really interested in giving away the identity of her Goddess. Or any information on her - though she had definitely come close to doing that with Writ. Amazing how the puppy boy had relaxed her so much. "...Mirror, though? The only one I've read about that has anything to do with a mirror is Tezcatlipoca..." Obviously the girl had been doing studying on the Mesoamerican gods - that's where she'd started when attempting to figure out her Goddess's identity.

Irony instantly hit her.

"...If that's your God, my Goddess will be incredibly unhappy. Especially since I'm speaking to you."

"Gods and goddesses are alv'ays incredibly unhappy v'hen v'e talk," he reminded her. "If v'e are not killing each other, they are unhappy. If v'e are making apple pie, they are unhappy. It is a fact of life."

He shrugged, amused.

"But I do not blame your goddess for being unhappy v'ith mine. He is a terrible, terrible person. Seducing v'omen every v'hich v'ay. Absolutely terrible."

Yes, his god was Tezcatlipoca. He didn't mind sharing that information. It wasn't like it was any great secret, and simply knowing who his god was did nothing for their chances of survival against him when it came to a fight.

He wondered if he should draw his god's attention back to the world; he could tell that Tezcatlipoca wasn't really paying attention, off doing what gods do in their free time.

He decided against it.

The last time he'd let the man speak, he'd discovered the fury of Quetzalcoatl.

"Mine only gets displeased when I talk about her, from what I can tell." Actually, Chalchiuhtlicue often times tried to get her to talk to others. A lot. Though she was certain it was so she could glean information that could possibly be useful and for no other reason. "...Do you make apple pie?" Suddenly, Zy was very hungry. And pie sounded amazing good. "Because if you do, I'm following you home and you're feeding me."

Wide smile. It probably was going to make him say that he didn't, actually, make apple pie or something. But that was perfectly fine.

The sunset had faded, leaving it the beginning of evening, now. She looked out to the water. "Too bad I'm afraid of the dark." she muttered under her breath. Trying to find her way home this late would be fun.

He hesitated.

Oh, oh, Tepin would kill him. Kill him dead, she would. He couldn't. He shouldn't. It was dangerous.

He shuffled his feet, and bit his lip, and looked skywards for some guidance - but his only guide was currently snoozing on his royal throne and ignoring his godling's plea for help.

"I do, actually."

A polite young lady. Very proper. Left out at night, in the Harbor, hungry and alone and scared of the dark like sweet young girls tended to be--

Damn it, he caved, miserably.

He would just blame his parents. This was all their fault.

Tepin was going to kill him.

"V'ould you like some dinner?"

He just - he had to be careful about this. Zyanya seemed like a nice girl to him, but it didn't mean he should let his guard down. It also didn't mean he should shun extending a helping hand, though.

Fear and paranoia was no reason to shove people, especially people in need, away.

Thankfully, Zyanya didn't know any of the other young man's thoughts - or she probably would have declined and fought her way back home through the phantoms of the dark. Darkness was not necessarily her friend. It hadn't been so bad when she was young, but there was more to worry about now that she'd matured a little.

She wasn't stupid.

A genuine smile was offered to Vale, "You do? I...think I would, thank you. I could cook for you, if you'd like. Mexican is really all I know how to make, though." A sheepish look crossed her face. "I'll clean up the mess, too."

Well, maybe she would make a good wife someday.

Company. He had company. That wasn't insane! A polite, nice, sane guest.

It had been a long time since they had guests.

"No, no, I insist," he grinned back happily, nodding his head towards the main road. "It is the host's job, da? Guests shouldn't have to cook for themselves." He was quite firm on this.

"Come, come, my house is not too far av'ay. I live in Middling. I must v'arn you, though," he added, soberly, "My sister, sweet as she may be, is the devil. Do not let her fool you. Little demon."

"I understand about younger siblings," She said with a snicker, "Daniel is a sweetheart when he wants something. But the moment you say 'no' he goes off like a little volcano. Little ones think they're so entitled to everything." Zyanya tilted her head, "Must be nice to have that entitlement for that short time. Too bad most of us can't remember it."

Her hand was brought up to her shoulder, the snake unwinding from her wrist and moving to wrap around her shoulders instead. Much safer for walking as Zy had a tendency to swing her arms. It made her dizzy.

"Thank you, missstresss. Doesss kitty have birdssses for Yectli?"

"You're welcome, Yectli." she said fondly. "I'll ask." Her attention went to Vale, "I know the answer is likely no, but Yectli would like to know if you have any small birds, rodents, or lizards for her."

"I sssaid birdssses."

"Hush." Sternly to the snake.

He shook his head as he walked. "Not on hand, no, but I can get her one very easily."

Valeriu was part-cat. He'd perfected the art of catching birds.

Seamus and Murphy had taken blackmail photos of it all.

"V'ait - you can speak to her?" His ears pricked up in surprise. That fact had just breezed past him, earlier. He laughed, heartily, and felt more than a little embarrassed. "I thought, at the market - I thought you v'ere pretending."

"Si, I can speak to her. She does not talk much, but when she's in a gabby mood it almost makes you wish you had a mental muzzle." She leaned down and kissed the snake's head. "She's a coral. Not fun if she bites you and is able to hold on. I'm trying to get a more...protective...snake."

"I am plenty protective, missstresss."

"I know, Yectli, but not much you can do about it."

If snakes could give looks, hers would have killed.

He grinned at the exchange, even if he could only hear part; but the dirty look from the snake was obvious, now.

"I think she is plenty sufficient," he put in, defending poor Yectli. "Pretty, and more than enough to scare off people."

Valeriu wondered if he should get a pet. He considered Calmaxtiloc, the giant cayman; that would definitely scare off others. Maybe a jaguar.

But then the Carnegies would suggest that he is forming a pride, and he needn't give them more Valeriu is a kitty material.

"Other players?" She questioned with a raised brow, giving a small shake of her head, "No, I do not think she will do very well at scaring off those who need to be scared off. Her venom may be strong, si, but her mouth is small. See? Yectli, open your mouth."

"No."

"Yectli, please?"

"I will bitesss him if I do."

"...I hate you." She muttered toward the snake. "You are not allowed to bite the nice man. Lead the way, Valeriu?"

He snorted, wryly, at the thought of getting bitten by a snake.

"That is a good defense, but v'ould you really v'ant to put your friends in such danger?" he suggested, not unkindly. Sure, snakes were poisonous and fast - but they were delicate creatures, and not made for fighting. A single bite, maybe two, would be all they could do - and it could easily be their last, knowing normal aggressors. Especially with humans, poison didn't kill instantly. And in the Game, all he'd ever come across were violent fights.

Unless she was planning to be an assassin. The thought almost stalled him.

Brains, Valeriu! Use your brains! he chided himself. Though he'd offered -- damn. He'd have to be really careful for a while after this. And maybe ask Quinn for some extra help. Or--

"Actually, I do have a place much closer, though it is in Downers," he added sheepishly. "Since it is getting so late. I keep it outfitted very v'ell. A kitchen, some rooms, and such. Plenty of food, if V'rit hasn't eaten it all," he muttered, absently. "If you v'ould like, I could treat you to dinner there, and you may stay the night if you v'ish. I'd have to be heading home after dinner, but-" he shrugged, sheepishly. "I just do not like the thought of young girls v'andering around after dark. Makes me so very v'orried, even v'ith Yectli to protect you."

And it solved his problem. He wouldn't have to worry about assassin-snakes later threatening his family (as sweet as she was, he couldn't shake his paranoid just yet), but he also wouldn't have to worry about her going a night without dinner or running around in the dark.

No streets were really safe on your own.

"No, I would not want to put them in danger..." But Zyanya's fighting abilities were, well, uh...kind of non existent at that point. Not that she'd admit that to Vale. Admitting weakness to another player...Gods above she wanted to trust someone, though. The girl worried at her lip for a moment before deciding she enjoyed her body parts intact and wasn't up for an angry Aztecan goddess to make a meal or her or something.

Instead of elaborating on the subject, the girl shrugged her shoulders and went with a change of subject when it was offered. "Writ? You know Writ?" A smile actually brightened her face at that. "The puppy certainly gets around, doesn't he?" Not so much a puppy - and so much taller than her - but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He, at least, didn't call her short.

"That would be nice. Dinner there, I mean. But I'm unsure if I should spend the night." More worried about her mother and father, no doubt, than the thought of being slaughtered in the middle of the night. Somehow she didn't think Vale would. It would likely end up being her downfall - wanting to see the best in people.

"...Do you have a telephone?" She'd feel better if she at least let them know.

"Da, I know V'rit," he affirmed darkly. "Mutt is a trouble-maker. The other day, I v'as trying to take a couch back to my home - and he sat on it! Just to make my life harder. A good man v'ould've helped me push, but no. Sat on it. And then gave my sister sugar."

Valeriu would have his revenge. One day. He didn't know how, and he didn't know when, but there would be a specific moment in the future when he would be the one coming out on top, and Writ would be left pushing a heavy couch by himself.

"The offer is open, if you do need it. I keep everything unlocked - nobody is stupid enough anymore to come in v'ithout an invitation." Valeriu made sure of that. Very sure.

"Come, come - I do not have a telephone there, but I do have a cell phone." He rummaged in his pockets. "I think." Check the back pockets. "I mean, they are so small-" Maybe his socks. Hopping on one foot--"-and I am not a big fan of technology-" Oh! Jacket pocket! He tossed the small, striped cell phone to her, and its coloring marked it out as being chosen by a woman. Tepin had picked it out - Valeriu just bought it. And carried it around. Sometimes. "I think it's charged," he added, unsuredly. It shouldn't be dead yet.
