The past had pained her and caused her to raise protective walls up around her heart. As he spoke and moved closer, she tensed. To trust him meant to lower those walls...she was afraid to even try. "I..." Curls around the shakes.

Lucian gave a mental sigh and lowered his eyes to the ground. "I didn't mean to scare you -" his voice trailed off. He took a deep breath and turned his gaze back to her. After what had happened to Akemi, Lucian figure it would take some time for her to trust him wholly. He'd have to be patient and show her he didn't mean and never would cause any harm. "Why don't we find some soft materials for the nest? I mean unless you already have, then we can add more to it or store it for later."

Akemi simply nodded. "I know, I'm sorry. I just...it takes time to earn my trust. The only reason I did not run is because...I don't want to leave these two behind. I can't." She gently nosed them in a loving manner. "What do you think they'll turn out to be? Boys? Girls? One of each?"

"I understand completely," Lucian couldn't think of what to say. He had to be careful; he didn't think that bringing up what she had just told him would be smart to do, so he left it alone. "Akemi -" Lucian thought over his words and shook his head, "Nevermind," a warm smile spread across his maw, "It doesn't matter what they'll turn out to be, because they'll be beautiful," since that didn't answer her question, he added, "I think we'll have one of each."

~~Time Skip~~
The day had come. Akemi had woken to the noise of newborns, mewling for warmth and food. She let out a happy purr and lay down with her belly to them, allowing them to get milk. At the moment her maternal instincts kicked in, clouding any thoughts of Lucius from her mind. These were her babies...healthy babies...
Gunju moved in, waddling quickly toward his Mother's warmth, mewing happily. Soon enough he found his way and began nursing, staying close.

A nagging feeling something had happened awoke Lucian with a start. He looked around on full alert. Recently he had relocated to a new den, closer to Akemi and to the newborns. He didn't want anything to happen to any of them just because he was out too far,
Lucian got up and stalked low to the ground out of his dark cave and went at a full speed charge toward Akemi and the cubs. It was minutes before her cave came into sight. Seeing no signs of intruders or struggles going on inside, he breathed in relief and slowed down to an easy trot.
Not wanting to disturb her in case she was alseep, he took a spot outside near the entrance and waited.

Ears perking, Akemi turned her head to look toward the cave's entrance. For a moment she hesitated, the two babies still suckling happily, but she sighed softly and spoke up. "Lucius...quiet...but come see our babies..." Her smile returned as she looked back to them, cooing softly.
Gunju lay flat on his belly, eyes closed for the moment as he suckled, his side nuzzled up against his sister's for warmth. His little paws were pressed against his Mother's belly softly.

Lucian looked over his shoulder at Akemi's quiet words. He stood and tiptoed into the cave to see the youngsters. Before he knew what he was looking at, he nearly fell over flat on his face. He remember them being smoothies still and now they had grown to such beautiful cubs! He had missed their growings . . . He had missed their growings. That though rolled around in his head, and he felt guilty. But for his family, Lucian put on a warm smile and lied next to them, but gave Akemi enough space so he wasn't intruding. They were adorable and made him feel proud.
Tanith sat with her back haunches in the air and her front paws kneading her mother's side gently, as she suckled. Her eyes were closed and she felt about ready to fall asleep again. The warmth of her brother by her side put a smile on her face.

Akemi purred happily, giving Lucius's cheek a lick as he lay close to them. Feelings she'd never felt before were filling her. Pride...joy...happiness...and love. Not just love to those two adorable babies that suckled sleepily, but to Lucius too. Why, she didn't understand. But regardless, they were there. And it showed in her eyes as she looked at him.
Gunju sat up, his belly full for the moment, and gave a rather loud mewl. He felt sleepy, yet he got up and waddled clumsily to his Father, resting his chin and one little paw on one of his bigger legs, falling fast asleep.

Lucian looked up to Akemi and saw something different. It wasn't her exactly, but it was her eyes he noticed. They held a light he'd never seen before and he warmed up to them instantly. At the sight of his son waddling over, he was ready to move and help him around if he fell over. But seeing Gunju fall alseep on his paw, almost made his heart melt. His smile deepend into a genuine fatherly love-type smile as he looked them all over. "They're wonderful," he whispered. For the first time in his life, he felt he didn't need to keep a cold mask on.
Tanith felt her brother leave her side. Her ears perked up at the sound of another lion and she stopped suckling. Feeling full and sleepy, she glanced around and her eyes fell on the massive lion in front of her. He was her father? But he looked nothing like her. She tilted her head to one side sleepily and gave him a curious look. Seeing her brother alseep on her father's paw, she gave him a smile and went to curl up next to her mother.

Akemi licked her son affectionatly, then looked down, smiling lovingly as her daughter curled up against her, both babies full now. She reached down and gave her little girl a lick, then held her with her paw, gently. "We need to name then Lucius...Do you have any ideas...?" She looked up to him, still on her side.
Gunju sprawled out a little, kicking his hind paws out to get more comfortable. Finally finding the floor too cool for him, he stumbled around and climbed up his Father's back, not meaning to claw if he happened to, finally curling up in between his head and wings, his face nuzzled up in the warm mane.

Lucian looked from one cub to the other. He went over many names in his head and could think of only two that really fit, "What do you think about Gunju for our son," -- Our son, he thought. It sounded so strange for him to say that, but at the same time it felt right -- "And Tanith for our daughter?" He felt his son climb up his back and settle down in between his wings. The stir of his mane told him their son had nuzzled up and fell alseep.
Tanith opened one eye sleepily as her mother licked the top of her head. She mewled in a happy tone and snuggled up against her mother's chest, grasping the soft fur in one paw gently.

Akemi couldn't help but giggle as their son crawled up onto Lucius, making himself a nest. "I love those names..." She looked down to their daughter, nuzzling her. "Tanith...it's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl..." She then grinned at their son. "And Gunju...he has your scales..."
Gunju purrs, fully asleep by now feeling very safe and happy nestled up in his Father's warm mane.

-Time Skip- L ucian smiled as he rolled onto his back outside Akemi's cave. He gave a hearty laugh at the tug on his ear.Tanith ran around her father and crawled over his stomach. She stopped up by his head then tugged on one ear with her paw. Her tail brushed against his paw as she moved to run around him again.
