Wyatt went at a quick trot as he headed for the bushes. Could this female really have a tale so horrid that it made her life worthless? Though, he was young(ish) yet, and could admit that he didn't know everything. But still...
Reaching the bushes, he picked the ones that bore the most fruit, snapping the branches close to their bases. He walked back slower to keep from shaking the branches bare. He set the pile before the tired female, keeping a couple branches for himself. He was starving from last nights efforts.
Settling in front of her, Wyatt blinked his dark yet bright eyes and smirked. "Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Wyatt, son of Brajan." He smiled again. "I hope me sharing my name will not be a waste?" He sked, implying his desire to not throw Xiang back into the river.

Xiang shrugged. "It doesn't matter at present," she said, picking at the berries halfheartedly. "I guess you want to hear the story." She took a deep breath.

"I was an orphan growing up, but I wasn't alone. A lost colt befriended me and we became siblings for each other. We stayed together through our childhood, but it was kind of lonely after a while, since my brother didn't really seem to want us to meet other kirin." She looked away. "My brother loved me, and when a mare we met by chance asked, I said I didn't, couldn't love him as more than a brother. My brother was listening. I must be a really horrible mare, telling my own brother who loves me as more than a sister that I only see him as a brother. Really rotten to break my brother's heart like that." Unwittingly, she had begun to cry.

Wyatt ate the berries with more gusto than the female, but he paid just as much attention to her story as well. He went through a range of emotions as the story went on. Sadness that this girl had never experienced the love of a parent. Respect that she had survived with only herself and another foal. Confusion when the brother wanted his "sister" to be more than that. Uncertainty at the females reaction and tears.
He tried to think of something comforting and inciteful to say, but all he could think of is comparing her story to him wanting to be with one of his own sisters, either the two of the same bloodline or the adopted one. It was all he could do to keep from wrinkling his nose at the thought for fear of the female taking it the wrong way. After a moment of slowly chewing leaves, he could only think of one thing.
"Was it the truth? That your brother was just your brother to you?"

Xiang paused, some errant tears still crawling down her pale cheeks into the soft fur along her jaws. "Of course he's just my brother, but if you care about someone, even if they're just a family member, doesn't that mean you shouldn't hurt them?" The turn of this conversation was making poor Xiang uneasy, and she had to admit, she'd never known a real loving family, so she had no idea what was normal. Maybe the relationship between herself and Toshiro had not been normal for siblings? She shook her head, disgusted at the very idea of two kirin who'd grown up as brother and sister, even if they weren't related by blood, becoming anything more than brother and sister to each other.

After a hesitation, Wyatt busied himself with another mouthful of leaves. He wanted to say something inspiring, thoughtful. Something to encourage her to keep her life. Mostly, it had to be right. He couldn't give wrong support just because it sounded good. He had to think back on his own experience.
"I don't think there's any way to not hurt your family at some point in life." He said softly, though confidently as well. "As far as I know, brothers and sisters should stay that way. If you had spoken to please him, your life would have been a lie. It sounds like you knew that. You chose to say the truth, and gave both him and yourself the chance to find someone who can be more." Pleased with his responce, though still wishing it could have been one of those on the spot awe inspiring speeches, he watched the mare carefully.
"I guess that means, in short, I don't think you need to go drown yourself over this. I refuse to toss you back in." He said in a stubbornly lofty voice with a toss of his mane, hoping to lift Xiang's mind a little from it's dark dredges.

Xiang stared at the stallion. "You mean...siblings sometimes disagree, and it's OK for them to disagree or fight or say hurtful things to each other?" The thought startled her and worried her. She'd thought one should always treat one's family members with love and respect, but maybe this wasn't always so--? She tossed her head a little. "If you're not going to toss me in and you don't think what I've done is wrong...then what happens next?" She felt increasingly attracted to the handsome dark stallion, and if he wanted her...if he wanted her...she didn't want to leave him. She really didn't, especially now that it had been suggested that she hadn't really committed any crimes against Toshiro. She didn't really feel ready to tell Toshiro, but maybe that would come later. She looked at the ground, quiet and uncertain.

Wyatt nodded. "I have two- well, actually three sisters. The two I've had since I was born, and we got on each other's nerves plenty. Especially between my sisters who are like night and day." He chuckled softly. "Yet they always made up. Either by talking to each other or letting time pass to cool their minds. It's not really okay to fight, but it's natural." A lot of times their parents intervened, but he didn't want to say that to someone without parents herself.
"Next?" He frowned in thought. "Well, I guess you do like we did. Either go talk to your brother or let time take a chance to heal yourself. You need to gain your strength back anyway, so you'll still have to wait a bit."
Naturally feeling the need to help the mare, he felt something else beneath the need. What was that? Licking a leaf off his lip, he straightened himself on the ground and let the thought go. "I have some time. Maybe, if you don't mind, you could stick with me until you're feeling better." This would make his father proud, but something else drew him to offer his help. That strange little feeling.

Xiang was startled, but the stallion's words made her very happy, somehow. She hadn't done something wrong, things could be patched up somehow, and...and...and.... She glanced at the stallion. He was willing to let her stay with him. That thought made her incredibly happy and excited. "Well, then, I guess I'll stay here with you, at least until I get my strength and courage back," she said shyly, not looking him in the eyes. She took a mouthful of berries with more gusto than before, though she still wanted to hear what he wanted to say to her. She wanted to hear the words of the wonderful dark stallion who'd saved her and brought her back from the edge of the darkness.

The acceptance of his offer elated Wyatt. That little feeling he'd pushed back into his mind made his neck tingle excitedly. Could this be-? He chuckled, mentally rolling his eyes. Love at first sight existed only in the stories, and he was sure love at second sight would be the same. Now that the female no longer looked like a drowned keshi, he was starting to see how attractive she really was. It wasn't anything fancy or loud, but certainly attractive.
"Well, it's a deal then." He said in a slightly breathless voice, pulling his mind out of its momentary revere. "Does this mean I get to learn your name now?"

Xiang looked up, startled, with her green eyes into his dark eyes. "I-it-it's Xiang," she stammered, blushing a little with surprise and some pleasant emotion deep in her heart. "Ummm...what's yours?" This stallion definitely made her feel shy, but somehow, she felt shy and happy and excited, a positive kind of shyness. Did this mean she liked him as more than a friend or a brother--?

"Xiang. That's a very nice name." Wyatt cocked his head, then let it go with a grin. "I am Wyatt, son of-." Was it tacky to repeat who you were the son of, even if the other kirin didn't remember you saying it before? Maybe it was time to move on from that phase of his life though. He smiled again, chuckling. "It's Wyatt." When their eyes had connected, he felt something else connect as well. He began to wonder how long she would be with him. He felt shame, but he hoped it would be a while before she was strong enough to leave...

Xiang smiled. "Wyatt's a nice name," she said, blushing a little, letting the name bounce around on the tip of her tongue and through her mind. Xiang felt happy on several deep, inner layers, happy to be meeting and socializing with another kirin, happy to be alive, happy to be sharing a meal with another kirin, happy that she hadn't really hurt Toshiro, and incredibly happy to have met and to be able to be with Wyatt. On some deep layer she was unaware of, she had made the decision to not leave Wyatt, not until he told her to leave. She ate the berries, quite happy to be alive and to be with Wyatt, no matter how brief the time.

((Do we want to wrap this up and move on to an RP where she's recovered?))

(( Sure ^_^ ))

Wyatt nodded in appreciation. Today was the beginning of something new and exciting, something he was looking forward to. However it turned out, he had the feeling that he would never regret having saved Xiang.

** Time Change! **

Laughing, Wyatt bound through grass that grew up to his ears so that he had to jump to see where he was going. It had been a couple weeks now since he had found Xiang and that feeling in himself. Both had grown over that time.
In another jump, he saw the grasses end, bordering a yellowing field dotted with gold and red leaved trees. "Almost there." He called back to the female somewhere behind him.

Xiang laughed and ran behind him. She was much stronger now, ready to leave Wyatt, technically speaking, but she still couldn't bring herself to leave him. She just cared too much for him to leave him. She caught up soon, luckily, and she felt a little jolt of pleasure, that her little bit of luck was returning with her strength. Xiang just hoped it'd hold long enough for her to stay with Wyatt. She didn't want to leave him, now or ever.

Breaking through, Wyatt slowed to take in the changing colors of the land. It was fun watching Xiang change as well. Her growing strength and spirit made him happy. Would she be leaving soon? He pushed that aside though, the thought always saddening him.
"I wonder why the leaves change." He said, glancing at Xiang curiously. "I've noticed them starting to fall off the trees as well."
