"Si, someone will have to win someday. Though one has to wonder if one can forfeit..." If one couldn't, well, she was kind of screwed. Because she didn't know if she had it in her to kill someone. Apparently her Goddess thought she did but she wasn't so sure. Not yet. Especially not now.

"Let me get my book, then." The coffee was abandoned - it didn't taste very good and she'd wasted her money. Maybe next time she'd go for the more childish hot chocolate. Zyanya reached for Hamlet and carefully tucked it against her chest, pushing off the chair. "Lead the way, Writ. Onto happier subjects. I suppose the reason I talk to you about the Game so much is you're the only one I really know."

Fish hadn't seemed too thrilled about it, and she hadn't wanted to push anything. And Vale, well, he didn't know she was in the Game.

...She did not want to kill Vale. He had been kind to her.

"Anyway. Perhaps to the lake?" It was pretty. She had no idea how long she'd been in the cafe, but it didn't matter the time of day one went there. It was pretty. More importantly, it was peaceful, even amongst screaming children.

All Writ had to worry about was whether or not he should take Vale's "Death threats" to heart. He hoped that his love of messing with the cat wouldn't be his demise. Vale didn't seem to have any trouble offing Seth. And eating his heart. And somehow dooming the lethargic man to a fate even worse than death.

Writ shivered. He remembered how cold Seth was.

Anyways.

"Sure." Writ held the door open for Zy, "It's a nice day, teeming with Blacksuits, but they're pretty easy to avoid if you know the right ways." At first the barricades were a cause for concern, but after walking across rooftops and walking down the lesser known alleyways of the city, they seemed to become minor inconveniences rather than real threats.

"Gracias."

Zyanya made her way through the door, book still clutched up against her. "It's not like they'd notice me, right?" she asked, turning her head to look at Writ, "I may have blue hair and these marks on my face, but that's easily explained away, right?" She didn't know anything about gene modders but she did know about tattoos and hair dye - not something uncommon.

Of course they probably knew damn well who Writ was.

"But they know who you are, right?" She laughed, shaking her head, "Sure it's safe for me to be with you, puppy?"

"We'll get by, we'll get by. I might not look like much, but I can be fierce when I want to." Writ smiled, his sharp canines poking through his lip.

Right. The last time he confronted the Blacksuits head on, he had gotten shot at, had a bullet through his arm and traumatized a small child. Needless to say, it wasn't one of his better moments. Zyanya didn't know that, and Writ wasn't about to tell her.

If a Blacksuit did come their way... Well, Writ wouldn't mind the challenge. All this talk about death had him wanting to defy it. Screw the cave, screw the dog guy, and screw those suits, he was Writ Campbell, and if anyone had a problem with that, they'll have to take it up with him.

"I have no doubt we'll get by. If all else fails, uh..." She trailed off, "Well, I can't do much of anything. Yectli is at home sunning herself on a rock or something and I was going to go to scout out for a serpentarium or something to get a more vicious snake...but..." Zyanya shrugged, "I don't think they'd have a dangerous enough snake there." She wanted to get something with a real bite. Yectli was good for some things, but she noticed the small fangs and all and she really didn't think that would do a very good job.

The girl started to walk in the general direction of where the lake was, "So. Something cheerful. Tell me something about yourself?"

Writ didn't really know what to talk about. Everything lately had been game this, and game that. He didn't really have much he could say about himself (That wasn't a complete lie) that wasn't related to that wretched thing. Oh well. He had to start somewhere. Preferably something honest.

"Well, I'll tell you I don't know crap about Shakesphere, and I only really know two lines so I can impress the ladies with my 'knowledge' and 'complexity'." He made a raspberry, "Yeah, it's an easy angle to play, but it's so dull."

A blank look for a moment, "Was that what you were attempting to do to me, Writ?" And then she laughed. A truly, genuine laugh. Not at Writ, of course - but of the irony. "Oh, you sweet man. Oh thank you."

With Rafael telling her that she'd never find a man to have interest in her because of her ideals, well...It kind of gave her bit of an ego boost. A much needed ego boost.

Had she not been so damn short she would have kissed his cheek or something.

"For the record, though, it probably would not have worked for long. Any truly intelligent and complex woman would have wanted to discuss the meanings of passages, and you would have been out of luck."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 24, 2009 10:38 pm

"Err..." Writ blushed, just a little bit. "Yeah. You're welcome?"

He tried to forget the fact that the last time he saw this girl she was about three feet shorter, and about six years less mature. The game just kept pushing him across that taboo line. Though technically, he wasn't a cradle robber now. Sort of. Borderline. Whatever, she was engaged already, right?

At least he wasn't blatantly (and nakedly) making out in front of little boys. Unlike some cats and snakes he knew.

"Yeah, then I just hope that she's faking it too. Sometimes it works." Writ shrugged, "So what about yourself?"

"Well, my fiance hates me. That's one thing about me. But I'm not too fond of him, either. We fight like cats and dogs. He does not want to marry me and says I will never find someone because I am not a proper woman. So the fact that someone was actually showing interest, even if it was a fake one, is flattering." She poked her tongue out at him.

Oh. Uh. Something about her...about her...Well, did that count? What she'd just said? It probably did, but she tried to think of something else.

"My parents are craftspeople and I have two siblings - Daniel, who is two and Cecilia who is six. I got told I was getting married on my tenth birthday."

Yep, arranged marriages sucked.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 24, 2009 11:12 pm

Well joy, there might be some chance after all. Writ kept a grin to himself. Problem was the fiance in question. Unwilling engagement or not, those two were still together. Though with Zyanya's recent growth spurt, that might just change. If things remained the way they were (Which Writ sincerely doubted) then he'll just leave her alone. No need to be in Vale's shoes, right? Love triangles were terrible things.

Something told him he wasn't going to let her go that easily.

"Well, you're what, seventeen-ish now? Technically, your tenth birthday never actually happened, and probably won't happen, since you know- you're older than ten." Writ was surprised with himself. He usually didn't make this much of an effort to try and help other people the way he was now.

They were getting closer to the lake.

"I don't know how old I am now. Though technically I'm still ten. My tenth birthday already happened. Actually my 11th birthday is September 30th. Though I don't think I will be celebrating my birthday this year." What was the point? Her family was barely talking to her, afraid of her. Superstitious people that they were. "We were supposed to be married when I was of age to do so. We were just...told this news when I turned ten."

There, clarification!

"Here's the lake." She said with a smile, the water gleaming in the sun. "Too bad we don't have a picnic basket. That would have been nice."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 24, 2009 11:48 pm

"Oh." Writ's hopes were crushed, but not completely extinguished. Still, the circumstances now... There was still a chance. He plopped himself on a dry spot near the shore and looked across the lake. It was a curse to have a keen sense of smell this day and age. He was practically wading in the scents of pollution coming from the water. Sure, it looked clean enough to wade in and splash and have an overall good time in, but if everyone smelled how he smelled, those kids would probably think twice before jumping in.

"Yeah, that would've been nice." Writ sighed, "Well, it sure beats that dingy little cafe, that's for sure. So, how are you going to explain to your parents your little situation? I'm pretty sure they're used to seeing a lot shorter Zyanya."

"Been there." She said quietly, sitting herself down beside him and crossing her legs. "They...did not take it well, I'm afraid. They are a very superstitious bunch. When I tried to explain about the Gods and the Game they did not want to hear it. They're afraid of me now, I think. Except for Daniel. He doesn't seem any different." She paused and looked up at the sky, "I think the only reason they did not kick me out is because they need help with the younger ones. I wonder what they would do if I left. I've been thinking of leaving for a long time...They drive me crazy."

But her responsibilities made her hesitant to leave. It was rather inconvenient being brought up with responsibilities.

"How did your parents react?"
PostPosted: Tue Aug 25, 2009 12:52 pm

"Went from cute and cuddly to rough and tumble, they didn't even recognize me. Nice part was it was easier to run away."

Writ didn't like to dwell much on the subject, "But that was a couple years back, saw those suits around their cafe lately, setting up shop. I wanted to keep them away from all this game business, and they just ended up getting deep into it." Back to the Game again, dammit! Writ mentally smacked himself, something else, something nice!

"Man, it's hot out." Writ finally said, after a minute of thought.

"A little bit. I don't get hot very easily. I don't know if that has something to do with my Goddess or not." She furrowed her brows - though then remembered she really wasn't supposed to say anything about that. Both because they weren't discussing the game and because that gave away too much information! Oh, Chalchiuhtlicue would eat her face off she was sure.

"There's some shade over there, a little bit up from the lake, if you'd like to go bask in it. Or we can go swimming." she shrugged. Of course she had nothing to swim in but she didn't really mind getting her clothes wet. It was warm enough to let them dry off by themselves once she did get out of the water.
