double hit HP: 14He wasn't sure how much longer he could keep it up, how much longer his strength would hold. And yet the old lion would not surrender, would not give in, he would not use his age as an excuse as so many others may have done. There was no mistaking that fire of determination in his gaze that burned as brightly as ever.
Summoning his strength, the old lion lunged. Perhaps it was a foolish move, a desperate move, one that would surely cost him in the head. Regardless, he had to end this fight now!
It he was lucky, his opponent would be knocked off his feet and remain stunned long enough for Amrun to get to his own feet, to deal a final strike.

Arun saw the attack before the old lion even lunged, reading his posture much more easily, even with just the experience he had received from this fight. Saw it, but couldn't move quick enough. His muscles ached from the blows and how many times he had hit the ground, his ears rang from the numerous growls uttered by the other lion.
The blow hit him square on, and indeed Arun was shoved off his feet and onto the ground once again, Amrun's blow hitting him quite hard, the air knocked square out of him. Yet before the older lion could finish him, the striped lion was struggling again, using what little spring there was left in his legs to scramble up again, lashing out briefly before jumping back and hopefully away from the gray lion long enough to come up with a plan.

half hit HP: 12 Again he had failed, he simply did not have the strength left to finish his attack. His stance sank, his steps slower, yet the intensity in his gaze had never faded.
He had missed his chance for the strike he had intended, but he would not surrender so easily, he would not miss the chance the lash at his opponent. And though it was far from what he had hoped for, he would not squander the opportunity!

Amrun seemed to be slowing down also, something that the striped lion made a note of. Well, at least this fighting machine had limits too -- he was beginning to think that the gods had infused some sort of awesome fighting power into this older lion! Maybe to smite him for all the teasing he had ever done. He would not put it passed those sneaky gods!
Keeping a red eye on the other lion, Arun ducked and dodged around the grey lion, although several times he failed to avoid the hit. Again his ears began to ring -- it would be just his luck if his brain had rattled out of his skull. Although some would claim he never had a brain to begin with. Rearing back on his hind legs, he swiped at the other lion, putting as much weight into his paws as he could.
He still doubted he could win this fight, but he would certainly give Amrun the best he had. If the older lion won, he wanted him to be able to say he won a fair fight.

HP: 10 The old lion snarled, knocked backward on his paws, finding himself for the first time in the fight on the defensive. A flick of his tail, Amrun gazed at the younger lion, standing firm on his paws.
This time he waited, his posture still, bracing for the impact that was sure to come. Giving the opponent a chance, any chance, to recover was dangerous, but it could not longer be avoided. He needed that movement himself, to regather his thoughts and, to find his next move. He could not afford to waste what energy he had left on desperate attacks.

He had to admit, Amrun had style. Through the entire fight, long though it was, the grey lion had always seemed to be in control, always calculating, as if he were directing the striped lion to play into his own attack. His own moves were still sloppy, still amateurish -- Arun looked like a cub compared to this other lion, who appeared to him as a master. He respected the older lion for how poised he always seemed, how in control. Someday, perhaps he would have the same type of experience, but now this was certainly not the case. Ah well, guess he couldn't start now, could he?
Giving the older lion a crooked, goofy grin, Arun lunged forward, swiping at the older lion's legs with his paw before jumping back -- yet another sloppy move. But he found he didn't mind so much that he was losing this fight, beyond the fact that he hoped Chepi wouldn't think him to be a wuss.

HP: 9 Amrun took the blow, deflecting what he could rather than doging. He couldn't allow himself to be knocked off balance again, no matter what the cost. If he were, it would only leave him open to the next assault. No, better to take the attack than to falter.
Pushing through his opponent's attack, Amrun ducked low, ramming against the younger lion's chest, his momentum focused in his hind legs. If he could, he would use that momentum to flip his opponent onto his back. If not, then it would at least slow him down.

"Ooff!"
The younger lion stumbled back a bit, caught square in the chest by the other's attack. Back and forth they went, blow by blow; it felt like it would go on indefinitely. But he knew that wasn't the case. It would be ending soon, in fact. Neither of them could keep this up for much longer -- they were both wearing thin. Amrun had the upper hand still, and that's probably where it would stay.
Coughing a little, the striped lion sucked in a few breaths before jumping back into the battle, baring his teeth, but still looking remarkably goofy -- he was serious about the fight, but at the same time, in the end, it didn't matter. It was for the sportsmanship.

HP: 7It was coming down to a battle of brute strength, no, a battle of pure endurance, or maybe it was luck.
The old lion had nothing left, he could only deal each blow and hope that it would knock his opponent back, to buy himself a few precious moments to gather himself for a final strike. Or better yet, to force his opponent to reveal weakness, a break in his guard.
And when this was over, he was going to haul his own a** back into training. He was badly out of practice and it showed.

Another blow. He could feel the end of the battle nearing just as much as Amrun could.
His legs were about to buckle. It was a shame, a damn shame, but they couldn't do this forever.
"You're... pretty good, Oldtimer," Arun panted, sparing precious energy to speak. Why? Because he was afraid that, at that final blow, he wouldn't be able to speak, he'd be so tired!

 HP: 5"Save your breath."
Battle was not the time to speak or to issue compliments no matter how sincere they may be. To do so only wasted one's energy, energy that was better used in the battle itself. There would be plenty of time for such things when the fight was over.
Yet he supposed he could not entirely fault for the younger lion for wanting to speak. Yet Amrun was not nearly so strong, or as skilled, as he once had been.
Another blow, and again they seemed to only go back and forth at this point, both too tired to do more.

Arun laughed, however weakly, "Why? Battle's almost over, you know as well as I do I'm sunk. Wanted to... congratulate you... before I collapse of exhaustion."
He really felt it to. If not this hit, then the next one was sure to make him collapse. He could feel his legs shaking. As soon as this was over, Arun was going to take a nice, long nap. And then maybe ask Amrun for some fighting lessons.

HP: 4 "Hmph, never count yourself out, ever, there is always a chance for victory."
And there he was, breaking his own advice, he really was getting sloppy.
Nevertheless, the point had been made. If one thought they would lose, they surely would. Strength did not come from muscle alone, it was also in one's will, in their heart.
His mind focused, his full attention returning to the battle at hand. No further distractions, it was time to end this, one way or the other.
