For a second, Casia felt a stab of pure envy. She loved the idea of flight when she was younger, but jumping and hoping to fly seemed almost zappy to her as of late. To be able to fly and still feel like your feet were on the ground, to have controls that people would teach you, it seemed so much safer.
Not to mention space. Casia hadn't even been to the seaside. Orli would go to a new school and meet new people and...
And be really alone. It struck Casia that she might not have many friends, but a new school meant unfamiliar faces, an unfamiliar world, literally, if they were talking about space. It was like the big 'C' word, only way early, and though it sounded exciting, the thought of it made the siren a little nervous despite her jealousy, even though she knew it wasn't going to happen to her. "Groovy!" she said, because they were classmates, and anywhere outside of school it lent a little camaraderie to meetings that would be awkward otherwise. "You gotta tell me what it's like, yeah? If you need someone to talk to out there, tell me about it."
It was an unusual offer for Casia to make, but partially because she was envious, and partially because she was suddenly so illogically lonely, she couldn't help but put it forward. "I mean, I'm not sure if they have phones or mail or anything in space, but you know, it'd be kind of nifty?"

Orli beamed at Casia, glad that someone shared her enthusiasm. "I'll be sure to!" she said, and pondered communication. She knew there were ways. There had to be ways...
"I think there's a way to patch webmail so it goes through," she said. Nat had sent them letters that way before. It had to work. She didn't know much about computers but she'd get someone to show her how to do it if at first it didn't work.
She patted her pockets, and had neither paper nor pen.
"Give me your e-mail when we're at school," she instructed Casia. There. That seemed like a solid plan.

"E-mail, right."
Of course Casia had heard of e-mail. She wasn't deaf, and kids these days talked about it, but she had spent most of her childhood with a woman who was reliving the 1960s. Technology was only slightly less foreign than the surface of the moon, and the garble that Orli had thrown at her was almost a different language. Patch? What was a patch? A high-tech bandaid? And webmail? It was a mystery, but she didn't want to admit she didn't know what it meant. "Awesome, I definitely will!"
Looking over at Jane, she exclaimed "Gotta beat feet. See you around, Orli!" before catching up to her guardian and pulling her away. She had until English class to learn how to use e-mail, and she wasn't about to set herself up to look like a ditz.

Orli's smile grew wider, and she waved to Casia as she left. "Seeya Monday!" she called happily, and then turned to catch up with Nat.
"Come on," she told him as she took him by the hand. He was intently studying a Soyuz capsule. "Let's go look at rockets."
