Zorlock Darksoul I've never read the books, and I don't plan to, because I don't care for vampire stories. However, I have watched the movie, and based on that and some other stuff I've heard, it's not so much a story about vampires as it is a story about romance with vampires thrown in for a twist. That said, I'm even less interested in reading the books. It's not even so much about romance as it is about obsession. This chick Bella apparently spends every waking hour thinking about this guy. That's not love, or at least not true love. If anything, it's puppy love. I won't even bother going into the canon of vampires. Like I said, they're not my thing, so it's not my place to say whether her description is right or wrong. I will say I don't like the sparkling. I realize it's yet another tool designed to make Edward more "beautiful", but seriously? Sparkling? On the "Edward is beautiful" topic, that seems to be what the majority of the story is about. Page upon page describing how his skin or his eyes or his whatever is the most perfect thing ever. I'm sorry, but that's not good story-telling to me. I don't want to read a book that spends 80% of the time explaining why the main character is awesome/hawt. That's just boring. My father actually attempted to read one of the books a while back. He'd heard a lot about them, and he wanted to know what all the fuss was about, so he grabbed a copy from the library. He got maybe a tenth of the way in and gave up. He said it was the some of the most horrid writing he's ever seen. This is a man who spends a good portion of his time reading all sorts of things, so I'm inclined to believe him when he says the writing sucks. I once saw an argument claiming that since Twilight was on the top of the NY Times best sellers list, it must be good, because bad books don't make it to the top. I wanted to kick this person. Thankfully for her, the Internet separated us. If enough angsty preteen and teenage girls buy a copy, any book will make it to the top of a best sellers list. That doesn't mean it's good. It means it sells. Frankly, the majority of the audience for this series probably hasn't done a lot of serious reading, so I doubt they'd know a good book if it came up and bit them. No, that's not a vampire joke. So yeah, that's my opinion of Twilight. Let it be said again that I haven't read the book, but I have watched the movie, and the only reason I did that was so I could justify my disgust with it. I was not disappointed; it was exactly what I expected. I don't disagree with you, the movie was terrible. I hate Cathrine Hardwick. It was nothing like Twilight. But just because the movie was horrid does't mean that the book is. I don't care if those who are to stupid to make it through a descriptive paragrapgh don't like it. I think it's great. The books are meant for girls, young adults if you will. Not knowing if you are either of those (I didn't look at your avi) I must asume that you just judge a book by it's cover, or the people who critisize it. I think that it's a great book with awesome characters. Ok they have flaws, mainly Bella having no backbone, but I still like it. It's a great escape for me. I always want to escape this world, with all the negitive people trying to bring you back to earth. Most like you.

to be honest, i read the books. the plot was horrible and the books drags. on the other hand, i thought the movies were wonderful pieces of cinematigraphy and the soundtrack was truly fitting. i can't deny that. they were breath takingly pretty.

I have read the series and for about a week I though they were great....And then I read some other books in the simular genre and the more i read the more I realized just how flawed Meyers wrtiing is. I really don't care for the main characters besides Jacob, because to me the supporting characters had a more vital part to the plot then Bella and Edward. A lot of what I usally say has already been said and after replying to so many of these kind of posts I give up trying to stay the same with each one.

-sigh- sorry fans, but vamps don't sparkle. :/
I don't have burning hatred, but I don't like how the reality plays out. I just try to avoid it, and sometimes when the topic comes up, I laugh with my friends.
--as you can see, I like a different kinda vamp (points at sig) mrgreen

I dont hate Twilight, lets just say i dont prefer it. I read the first book and thats how far i got in the series. I didnt have the desire to read the rest of the books at all. Then the first movie came out..ok, everybody went crazy over it. Down here, all i saw was twilight posters pencils books shirts fanclubz, etc. An im sure it was goin on everywhere else. since then, vampires have been the foundation of most of the new books and movies that are coming out now. And frankly, its really annoying.

To: ALL TWILIGHT LOVERS,
Hello all,
Though I personally do not HATE the twilight sage I do highly dislike the author. Please all, read the Sookie Stackhouse series (not watch the show, READ THEM) and you will clearly see that stephenie meyer stole all her stuff from charlaine harris.

S a f f r o n S u g a r "Seriousness is the refuge of the shallow."
I think Twilight is one of the worst things ever to be published. Stephenie Meyer is a terrible writer, I've honestly read better fanfiction. She's overly descriptive, and writes paragraph after paragraph of "filler". In the book she spends more time describing what Bella cooks for dinner than she does on advancing the plot. A plot which, by the way, is rather silly. The good guys "win" almost instantly, so she can go back to describing Edward's marble skin and butterscotch eyes.
Her characters lack dimension, as well. Bella is too average, and Edward is too "dreamy". Not to mention the poor research behind it. She describes Edward as a glittering vampire, yet later on it's revealed that he is an incubus. An incubus is not a blood-drinking vampire. It's a demon. A demon that goes into peoples' rooms at night, paralyzes them and forces nightmares upon them, and rapes them to drain their energy. Let's look back on Twilight now - hasn't Edward been going into Bella's room at night to "watch her sleep"?
That's beyond disturbing.
But it's just a book, right? It's not doing that much harm! WRONG. Here's a list of why it's damaging culture and society.
1.Tithing. SMeyers is mormon, therefore 10% of her cash goes to the mormon church. The mormon church is one of the biggest sponsors for the Prop8 campaign, for example. So basically, by giving SMeyers your money you are also oppressing people!
2. Young girls read this book and usually just fall in love with Edward. Edward is a creepy ********, and guys like that in real life should be arrested. If these girls start going out with guys like that, they are probably going to end up being abused in some way.
3. Wasting resources. There is now twilight candy, clothing, jewellery, books, cds and dvds, to mention a few products. It's pretty much taking over the industry. The twilight book is killing lots of trees.
4. Badfic. THERE'S A LOT OF IT.
5. Screaming crazy fangirls. Some fangirls have attacked those who disagree with their love for twilight. It's gone as far as attempted murder. Obviously, twilight makes people stupid and aggressive.
I could go on and on about this, but it'd take forever! There're so many issues with this book - the mormon overtones, the sexism, the abuse, ***** etc. - Oscar Wilde. HELL YEAH!!!!! I totally agree with you sistah! Twilight sucks more than the damn vampire that's in it. Vampires, for onething, are supposed to burn in the sun not sparkle like a little f**. Plus, I bet you that Edward (the biggest emo p***y ever) would actually eat garlic bread and not feel any effects. SMeyer should be lynched b/c of this series unless she can redeem herself (which I find very unlikely thats she'll be able to) The werewolves are just as ******** up as the vampires. I just gotta say, I wanna find every Twilight book, merchandise, and any other crap created out of it and burn them all in a massive inferno so that no one will ever have to suffer the way we are suffering now

Lynching is a bit much isn't it? If we're going to lynch someone for writing a book you don't like, then I suppose we should lynch all living authors of books we don't like. And why stop there? Why not lynch EVERYONE we don't like because one thing or another?
:/ Just saying.
Oh, and you're wrong about the werewolves. She actually covered herself up there in the last book and changed it. It was revealed they were not really werewolves, but shapeshifters. 'Not true children of the moon', as she wrote. So please don't start attacking without any knowledge of your enemy.
Thank you. ...will rock your world

Wow zenwolf, that is some interesting language you have. Rather than going into hatespeech, howzabout you give us the reasons you hate twilight so much? It's the debate forum, not the hate forum. I think what you're trying to say is: arrow You have an issue with the sparkles. Didn't you read RGI's little glitter-glue hypothesis? arrow Edward isn't a real vamp. Well, I have to say, this is fiction, it can be as unrealistic as it likes. I have better things to do than read Twilight, but that doesn't mean they're any more realistic. I'm sure you're not complaining about the realism of my outfit. *twirls* arrow You don't like Stephanie Meyer. Well, I don't like Phillip Pullman, but I love the HDM trilogy. arrow And you don't think she will ever write a good book. Well I gotta say that I found "The Host", her sci-fi breakout, pretty decent, if a trifle long. arrow You don't like the were wolves. See above. arrow It's been overcommercialized. No one is arguing with you there, honey. Nothing personal. Rants are fine, I do 'em myself... but they ain't so good for this forum. Think of the thread!

Alright, I retract my rant and give my reasons for not liking Twilight. ((If i can keep it rant-free hopefully xd ))
1. I take back what I said about lynching Miss Meyer and having her redeem herself by making a better series. Anyone can be a great artist, but this one was just a major flop and to me, it's floundering around worse than a Magikarp trying to do Splash. lol
2. Edward has kinda ruined the fantasy of vampires for me. To me, a vampire has a more romantic feel to it (what with the seduction and all that). He basically gave the idea of turning vampires into wussies.
3. The werewolves are what you said, "shapeshifters", and nothing more than that. I feel the werewolf should be a little more complicated and have a more romantic atmosphere (like the vampire)
4. I just dont like Bella......
5. The fandom has become too much. It's just as bad as Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.
So, once again, I apologize for my previous rant and have now given a better view on my opinion

I suggest reading 'The Host'. She did a much better job there.
2.) What you could call romantic may not be to another. Keep this in mind, as Meyer may have found him (and any fans) romantic. Everyone has a right to an opinion. :3
3.) But you see, they're not werewolves. So, I'm sorry, but that whole argument makes no sense. Why complain about them not being good werewolves when they're not even werewolves??
4.) Nobody likes Bella hun.
5.) Everything has rabid fangirls. Twilight is just getting put in the spotlight because it's making a large profit right now through the novels and movies. ...will rock your world
