Hey, dude, living in fear’s bad for your health, you know…We just need to deal with that, together. You’re strong enough, I know it…Now, just step into the nice, cool house and we’ll get you all set up, Shade…

Aoi led him inside, closing the door after them. “Hey…no problem…I want to help you, I want you to not have to live afraid anymore…We’ll get you through this, eh?” His face was soon graced by a wide, pleasant smile as he lead Shade further through the house, towards his room.

Shade nodded softly as he followed Aoi to his room. As always, Elst's house smelled pleasant, which only helped to further calm him. Hopefully, it would help keep to keep him that way until they left the house again. Actually, there probably wouldn't be too much trouble until they actually got to the body of water - /THEN/ the impling might start having second thoughts about all of this.

"Okay..." he managed to smile a little, his tail flicking behind him. He was still nervous, but that was probably to be expected - it would take time for him to feel comfortable around the water.

Hopefully, Aoi wouldn't mind having an impling cling to him when they got there.

Aoi opened the door to his room, a stronger, yet gentle menthol-esque fragrance of mint greeting them cheerily. The room was covered end-to end in green; plants, wall paint, shag carpet and the like, but the most noteworthy green items were the near endless supply of pillows. Of all different sorts, they were, and sizes, their one shared trait being how comfortable they all looked. On one wall hung a curtain, however, concealing Aoi’s closet; next to it was a large oak dresser. Slowly removing his arm from Shade’s shoulders, he opened a drawer, full of shorts and swim trunks, digging through them for something that could fit Shade.

Yes, it would of course take time…but Aoi was willing to be patient. And if Shade needed someone to cling to, Aoi would gladly be that someone.

Shade breathed in deeply as the scent of mint filled the air - it was definitely refreshing in comparison to the muggy smell that had been outside. The impling blinked as they entered the room, surprised by how many pillows the essentic had. It would seem that Aoi liked them...a lot.

The boy looked over as Aoi moved to the dresser and followed after him. He didn't really care about how what the pair he wore looked like, so he just let Aoi look. After a few moments, Shade began looking around the room again in an attempt to take his mind off the idea of swimming. His friend's room was definitely a lot different than his own, which usually had CDs, electronics, and other gadgets laying around in it. It had to be one of the messiest rooms on record, as Shade normally never even made his bed. The family cat, Gidget, didn't seem to mind it though - she'd always been quite fond of stealing Shade's pillow, regardless of how messy the rest of the room was.

Aoi's room was cleaner than his however, though Shade still had to wonder why he had so many pillows. Perhaps they just helped him sleep better at night...?

Aoi rummaged further through his dresser. “These ones? No, too loose…these? No, too short…hmmm…there!” He finished muttering to himself as he emerged victorious, a pair of rather form-fitting trunks in hand, black with grey smoke designs along the legs. He tossed them to Shade. “Here, try these on, they should fit…” Without thinking that the impling would perhaps like somewhere to change in, he resumed looking through his drawers. “Yeah…I usually just go in my boxers, so I shouldn’t need a pair. Those are my favorites, I think. Like the design?”

As for the pillows…their enormous quantity was mostly due to Elst. Aoi’s been dozing on a couch in the living room a week or two ago, having mentioned he loved the feel of sleeping on pillows, and with a single trip to a bulk store, Elst made quick work of providing Aoi with every pillow he’d ever need. Aoi hadn’t been thinking this many, but…hey, it was nice, at least.

And as for why the room was so clean? Aoi was no neat freak, he simply did little else in his room other than sleep.

Shade caught the trunks as Aoi tossed them too him. He looked them over briefly and nodded at the alter's statement - it was true, they were quite a nice pair. "Yeah, they l-look cool..." He did his best to focus on the trunks and not swimming - it was hard though, considering that the trunks were /FOR/ swimming.

"Um...okay..." Change where? The impling looked about for a moment, timid about the idea of changing in front of someone. After another minute though, he moved behind Aoi's bed and ducked down behind it - it was better than nothing. Soon, he stood up again, now wearing the trunks. "They f-fit fine..."

As Shade had fretted over changing, Aoi himself, possessing utterly and entirely no sense of body-shyness, had changed where he stood into a pair of leaf-print trunks, somewhat thinly made, a tad form-fitting to his thighs and waist. Only then detecting Shade’s nervousness, he realized what he had forgotten. His former smile dulled a noticeable bit.

“Oh, whoa, sorry, shoulda told you that you could just change behind my closet curtain if you wanted…” He did notice, however, Shade’s phobia creeping up again. And furthermore that the imp wore the trunks rather well. “Oh, wow, that pair looks real nice on you, actually. Just remember that it’s you that makes the trunks look cool and not the other way around, alright?” The flowery Essentic grabbed a couple towels, and a bag of miscellaneous things from atop it, then returned to loop an arm across Shade’s shoulders once more. “And just think of the water as an enemy, not a fear. Think of the fear as an enemy too. And I as an ally, cause I’m gonna help you tackle both and believe me. You’ll kick their asses for sure.” The smile returned.

He made the trunks look cool? Shade wasn't too sure about that bit - he was small, even for an impling kid, and his body had always looked really...girlie. It was part of the reason that he dressed the way he did, aside from the fact that he had a horrid sense of fashion. Luna normally had the devil's own task when it came to getting her son to wear something other than hoodies and jeans.

The impling boy blinked at Aoi's words - he almost made this sound like a video game. It was funny, in a way. The only problem was that this wasn't a game - he didn't have some magic item that would just let him fly over the water, and he only had the one life rather than the multiple ones (which sucked very much). Still, he nodded and took a deep breath before saying, "I'll...t-try to remember that..."

Well at least one person in this duo was sure of it. “Trust me, you have a body to be proud of, alright?” He smiled confidently, hugging around the impling’s shoulders a little more. “Have some confidence, eh? You have a lot to be confident about.”

Hey, sure, let it be a game, if that makes it any better. A game you’re gonna win. “Let’s head on out…” Bag in one hand, Shade occupying his other arm, Aoi led the impling out of the house, towards the more forested area of the nursery.

Shade glanced around as he and Aoi made their way to the forested area of the nursery. As they walked, the impling teen did everything he could think of to try and not think about the water. It was hard to dismiss a fear that he'd suffered from since he'd been a small child, but he tried to think of it as a game.

A really, really scary game that he didn't want to play and wanted to put back on the rental shelf. So, he did his best to tell himself that he'd be fine and to remember Aoi's words.

"S-So...how f-far's the lake f-from here...?"

Oh, this game wasn’t about to allow itself to shelved. Sorry, Shade, but it’s time we helped you through this. “Just a little farther, it’s actually pretty deep in, we won’t be interrupted or anything there, at least…You’ll find it’s real nice out there, all quiet and calm…” He smiled, keeping closely wrapped around Shade’s shoulders with an arm.

This would prove interesting, he felt; wonder how Shade’d react once the water was actually in view. He may have suffered from this fear since he was a child, but it would end in his teen years if Aoi had anything to do with it.

Normally, seeing the lake wouldn't have bothered Shade all that much - after all, it wasn't /SEEING/ the water that frightened him. It was the idea of getting in it that made him nervous and anxious. This time, however, the sight of the body of water sent a wave of unease through him as he remembered that he'd have to get in that water. Obviously, he wasn't looking forward to it. Would this really work?

"I...um..." The boy's tail lashed behind him as he struggled to get his thoughts in order. "W-What....do you want me t-to...to do...?"

Eventually, the lake was reached, and the time of judgment was near~

Aoi led the impling to the clearing the lake resided in, surrounded by trees, the sounds of nature, clear sky overhead…They could have been continents away in some lush, tropical forest for all it mattered now; they were in mother nature’s arms, here, no one else to bother them, no one else to interrupt them. No better place to conquer a fear, in Aoi’s opinion.

“Well, here we are….all you have to do is take the first steps in, it’s real shallow near the edge, and you can take as much time as you need…” His voice was low, calm, let’s make sure Shade’s as comfortable as possible, let’s just get him in the water, now… “…and you won’t have to take them alone.”

If nothing else, Shade was grateful for the privacy - he didn't really want anyone other than Aoi to see him try to swim (drown and die) today. His tail flicked back and forth anxiously and he nodded as Aoi told him to just step in the shallower parts of the water. "O-Okay..."

The boy took in a deep breath as he did, shivering slightly as he felt the cold water around his ankles. Alright, so far, so good...now came the hard part of actually getting the /REST/ of him in the water. The boy stuck to Aoi, despite the fact that they were standing in a mere few inches of water - if only the whole lake could just be this shallow.

Yes, privacy, always nice, no embarrassment now that there’s no one to see the fear…And Aoi certainly won’t be laughing at him, Shade could at least be sure of that.

Aoi kept nice and close as the impling made his initial steps into the water, the flower-child now also ankle deep in the cool water. It was rather nice, this coolness, on such an overwhelmingly hot day.

And as unfortunate as it was, the whole lake was not this shallow, a steady decline to deeper water with each advancing step. Aoi, one arm carefully around the impling’s waist, advanced said steps slowly, gently getting Shade into deeper and deeper waters, staying by his side.
