Looking at her skeptically, Mazimwi didn't like the idea that someone else needed to watch out for Skugga. He was very independent and he was used to taking care of other people. "Oh? Not just Yuusa?" He listened to her piece about Sakata.
"Oh." Mazimwi did recall seeing a lion that fit the description. "I don't think I've exactly seen a lion fitting that description but I wasn't exactly looking." Run... The lion absolutely hated that term; he was used to facing his problems face on. "... I will attempt to suck up my manly pride and run." She made a point... Mazimwi didn't deny that he probably should run... To be a warleader, you had to be the best.
The lion looked up into the sky and attempted to focus on the stars. It was difficult to believe that soon, he would be in the thick of of battle and perhaps running for his life. "Let's head back." Nudging her slightly in the direction of home, Mazimwi felt unusually uncomfortable about the situation at hand...

Skugga didn't like the way Mazi worded his reply. It sounded much like something she would say to avoid making a promise she couldn't keep. And he really needed to stay away from Sakata. There were other Mizimu warriors that would be just as dangerous to meet, and with a bit of bad luck even one of the lousier ones could kill you... But if she could make Mazimwi avoid just one of the dangers they'd face she had to try.
"Just stay away from him," she pleaded, "Promise me! I don't need you to get killed just to prove that you're a strong male. I know you are."
Somehow, what was supposed to be a relaxing walk had ended up draining her completely, and she didn't need much coaxing from Mazimwi to turn around. The cool night air no longer felt good, and she longed for her warm dry den.
"Yes," she agreed, "Let's go home." This time she was the one following him.

Mazimwi honestly wasn't sure why she cared so much. He would rather be the one saying that to her and this conversation just made him feel so uneasy. It seemed like she thought that he couldn't take care of himself and that he would get killed in battle. Just the mere fact that he possibly couldn't take care of himself let alone Skugga too bothered him.
"Okay, I promise." He would do his best to keep this promise because if she didn't want him to get killed then he wouldn't. At this point, he was too involved in this plot for rebellion and too connected with Skugga. There was no backing out now.
The lion turned around and walked alongside Skugga. There was a lot to think about... and he needed to train now. If there was a point where he couldn't keep his promise, he needed get out alive somehow.
Everything would be fine... Mazimwi kept reminding himself of this. Optimism would be the only thing that could keep him alive through all of this.
