Damn, the guy was fast. That sharp-edged and heavy staff crunched against his back, antagonizing and straining already healing ribs. It knocked the wind out of him; he lurched forward, momentarily stunned with gravel digging into his palms and knees.

Pain - and then he was angry. He snarled, whipped around like a sidewinder and swiped with the monstrous claw. It wasn't a direct hit this time, but he was still satisfied to hear the same sort of crunch that his ribs had made.

"Hold still," he grunted and hissed, but he couldn't get a hit against the speedy b*****d's legs no matter how fast he swung his arm.

God, he hated fast food.

Ouch! 6 damage taken from Nemesis Mercury. But...
WHOMP! 5 damage dealt in return!

Quinn eyed the two of them fighting, and listened intently to the crunching noises.

They didn't sound pleasant.

He didn't want to get inbetween that, in case Vale took out some of that pent-up (yet so very expressed) eyeball anger out on him 'accidentally'.

So, he decided to keep his distance.

Tentatively, he sent a shock out, trying more for aim than power, to keep it from hitting Vale again.

Unfortunately, he hadn't used enough power, and it fell short of its mark, choosing its own direction and blowing out a lightpost nearby.

Phew! No damage taken, but
Lame! No damage given, either.

Before he could recover from his strike, Vale spun around, the weird shadow thing hitting him in the side. Probably took out one or two ribs. "b*****d!" He said, coughing up blood from his lungs.

Whatever Quinn did went unnoticed by Mercury, as all his attention was focused on Vale. He started to run around Vale's side, away from Quinn, and made a quick jab at Vale's face as he did, smacking into his cheek with the blunt end.

Ouch, 5 damage taken
Bam!, 4 damage to Vale

His head swung, left and right, but he couldn't keep up with the speedster. He growled, and looked too slow - the end of the staff came ramming right out of his blind spot. He couldn't even see it coming.

But he felt it. The butt of the staff cracked his cheek, snapping his head as he fell back. His face was throbbing in pain; he'd never been decked there quite that hard. Hard as he tried, he couldn't help crying out in agony at the hit.

It ******** hurt!

s**t, s**t, his good eye was tearing up now, and everything was blurry.

"I v'ill rip out your damn heart!" he spat, ears straining to gauge where the other was. He thought he heard that light shuffling of feet, and lunged heavily, swiping at air.

He hit the building on the follow-up roll instead, slamming against the brick with a wheeze and a groan as he slumped down.

Crack! 4 damage taken from Mercury. And...
WHAM! 5 damage taken from Brick Wall!
That's gotta hurt.

"Vale!" He yelled, attempting to get his attention before he hit the wall. He wasn't quite in time, and he narrowed his eyes at the boy.

"No one hurts Valeriu but me, you a*****e." He ran up to the teenager, knowing he would have to be fast to get a hit in. The easiest thing for him to grab was the boy's staff, so he did so, latching onto it with both hands and yanking the the boy closer to him.

"Have fun in feline hell." He leaned forward in a flash and gave the boy a light peck on the cheek, before sending a shock through the staff into the boy. It was an indirect hit, but it was enough. He felt a bit of static come back to him, but let go of the staff and waggled his fingers tauntingly in a small wave. "I hope you enjoyed that. Last thing you'll ever feel."

KRAKOW! 4 damage to Jub-cury.
What? Mental scarring for the rest of his life to Jub-cury.

His hit had connected with Vale's face, and he'd smiled as the guy lunged at the wall. But while he was busy gloating, he didn't see Quinn running towards him until it was too late.

Mercury's muscles tensed up as he was electrocuted, only to go numb afterward as it wore off. His knees collapsed as all his strength left him. "Damn rainbow."

The coughing resumed more forcefully, and he fell backwards onto the ground. "I would have liked to see Ms. Percy again." he mumbled. He tried to get up again, but only succeeded in rolling onto the side. "s**t...this sucks." He said, and passed out.

The maniac was down. That much he could hear - the thud of the body as it fell, the splattering of the blood.

But the heart. Still beating.

He surged up like a man possessed, mindlessly and blindly rushing towards the fallen boy. He wanted it! He was hungry!

The claw slammed down this time and got flesh. Not quite where he was aiming, too low. He wrenched it back out, ignoring the flecks of blood. Definitely too low, too squishy; he hadn't gotten what he wanted.

The shadowy hand raised again, a feral snarl twisting his lips back over readily gaping and fanged jaws, this time not intending to miss.

Ew! 4 damage dealt to Fallen Nemesis!
Huzzah! No further damage taken!

Quinn saw Vale.

It wasn't acting like Vale.

Diving towards the boy, he slowly realized what Vale was aiming for. "No, you idiot! No! Don't!" He ran up and rammed his shoulder against Vale, speed on the side of his skinniness.

His mind was on Vale, but this kid wasn't down yet. As long as his heart was still beating, Vale would be tempted.

Quinn's hair stood on end, and his hands started vibrating as shocks rapidly shot between and around them. He dropped to his knees, and placed his hands on either side of the boy's head. Electricity was unloaded from his fingers into the boy's head, and he left his palms there until he stopped feeling any pulse at all.

He looked at Vale.

"Are you alright, hon? You look pretty bent out of shape."

He frowned, down at the boy.

"Who was that kid, anyway?"

Bzzzzzzzt! Jubcury's brain is overloaded!
Shrug! Quinn doesn't know who he just killed. And comes out unscathed!

Breath once again left him in a whoosh as he got slammed out of the way, his final attack thwarted.

No, no! He scrambled to get back on his feet, to get back there - but the deed was done, and the beating left his ears. No more pounding heart. No more promise to fulfill.

He sat back, legs splayed awkwardly, and blinked, slowly, groggily. His mind was taking its sweet time clearing.

"A threat," he muttered in response, wincing and whining in his throat at the jabbing pain in his horrifically swollen cheek. He cupped his jaw with a pathetic frown. "He got lucky," he added sulkily, staggering to his feet. "Very lucky."

In more ways than one.

Quinn nodded, and he left the corpse where it was, and scooted his way over to Vale, pulling wrapping his arms around the man's shoulders in a hug, his head on the nearest shoulder.

"At least the shock was fast," he muttered. "And the last time you ate a godling's heart you went crazy, so it's better this way."

He sighed.

"Yes. He did. And so did you. You're hurt bad. Let's get you into the hospital, alright?" he didn't make a motion to stand up, though.

He felt a little bad for killing the boy. A little.

But it was the right thing, wasn't it? It was better over letting Vale eat his heart.

The lesser of two evils.

Right now, Vale's shoulder was comforting, though. It was enough.

"You need to get patched up."

He groaned - his ribs ached, but the hug was welcome. It helped keep him upright, at least.

"I guess," he certainly wasn't pouting. Or hugging back onto Quinn like a little kid. "I can't. If they find out I am not a genemodder--" He let the warning hang. It was the same reason he couldn't go before.

He didn't care about the body, now. It was over. Threat eliminated. For once, he hadn't dealt the final blow.

"I just v'ant to get home," he muttered into Quinn's shoulder, slumping, and his words came out muffled. "Stupid v'all. Stupid staff. My ribs hurt. My cheek hurts. It is all swollen. Hideous."

Quinn nodded, and slowly attempted to help Vale stand up. He would support him, and they could head to Vale's house. He needed to be bandaged up, and the wounds needed to be cleaned. He didn't know much about first age, but he knew that. He also didn't know the first thing about broken bones.

He'd have to take Vale's word for it.

"C'mon. Let's go."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:02 pm

"'Kay," he answered, thickly, around the swelling in his cheek. He slung an arm around Quinn's neck, taking the support where it was offered.

"Thanks." Though he quickly scowled at the man, bumping against him grumpily. "But don't think I've forgiven you for ******** up my eye, you jerk."

Ah, yes.

A whole walk home with Valeriu nagging.

Peace at last.

Quinn smiled. At least the nagging was normal.

"Of course not." He trodded along, doing his best to support Vale as much as possible, though Vale was much bigger.

He had work in the morning, too.

Well, karmically, he thought, at least the day should be calm.
