Shock was not quite the word to describe what fell over Koishii when she saw the other Kuniku for the first time. She had seen multitudes of different colours and shades of fur and feathers... But never before had she seen such a... She was lost for words. Immediately, her trained mind called 'demon' out, but Shii realized that if he were in fact a demon, he would have tried to do away with her in the ruins, or even now. But she turned slowly and watched the creature try to leave from the area, his tail hung low, and his head down. His eyes and markings were strange, yes, and even the mist that clung around his paws threw her off a bit, but he had done nothing to her... And demon or not, she was kind to those who were kind to her.

She took a cautious step forward, calling out to him. "Wait..! I still need to look at your bite." and she frowned shaking her head at her impoliteness. "And I don't even know your name!" She bowed her head in respect for the other and hoped that he would stop moving long enough for her to at least make sure he was alright. "... I'm Koishii." Hopefully, the extension of her name to him would be enough to at least give her his.

She looked up again, smiling. Yes, it blew her mind to see the strange, glowing marks on the other Kuniku, but she really wasn't scared. She knew that if she needed to, she could defend herself, or run away quickly, but Koishii knew that there would be no need for that. His aura was peaceful, and it relaxed her as she watched him with sunset-orange eyes.

Spectre stopped dead in his tracks and felt as if his heart had done the same. Was that lovely Kuniku actually calling him back? Asking him not to leave?
"M-my name?"
The poor Kuniku was so flustered that his mind couldn't even process his own name or the meaning of the question at all. Gingerly he glanced back at her, eyes full of confusion (though few would be able to tell with his blank stare), tail slowly leaving its shameful position between his legs.

"Oh, uh... my name is... Spectre..."
Since she hadn't made a break for it and instead was standing there, obviously a bit cautious but serene nonetheless, it gave him time to actually get a decent look at her. Before he left Spectre had only really seen her paws, since as soon as he did he planned to leave before he caused any problems. Shyly, his eyes scanned over her- so bright and soft looking. They were very different from one another.

Too nervous to move it was all he could do to just sit down, mist slowly dancing around his paws as he shifted his gaze to the ground, eyes still wide with confusion and a crooked scowl on his face. Not that he wasn't happy about this strange occurrence, it was just that, very strange, and he really didn't know what to do with himself.
Would she come over to him, or stand and gawk? He felt his heart fluttering in his chest, pounding with the excitement of a new experience.
"K-Koishii..." he repeated quietly, under his breath. What a nice name.

By the time he had finished his thought process, Koishii had only looked him over for about the millionth time, but she had caught everything he had said. My the sound of things, Kuniku didn't normally approach him. It was understandable, but at the same time, Shii hadn't understood why anyone wanted to stay away from such a kind-hearted Kuniku such as this. She wagged her tail once and then began making her way over to him, determined to get to know this strange creature. "Spectre, hmm?" Her ears twitched at the name, quite liking the ring to it. "I think that's a wonderful name." She nodded, coming to a stop beside him so she could look him in the eyes, trying to get used to the new feeling. "What are you doing so far out here, Spectre? It's not like this is a common place for Kuniku to go in the first place." Koishii giggled softly and turned her head to begin inspecting his scruff, just to make sure he was still doing alright.

The bleeding had slowed, most definitely, but there was no mistaking that Shii's teeth were sharp. There were four decent-sized tooth holes in Spectre's skin, and the sight of it made her own skin crawl with guilt. Hopefully, after they got their polite introductions done, she could convince him to go with her to go and get some medical aid at the nearest city... Which... Was probably a good fifteen miles away from where they were currently. I really hope this doesn't get infected... I'll feel horrible if it does! Koishii turned her head back to face Spectre, hiding all worry underneath her features. No reason to get him nervous, right?
PostPosted: Mon Aug 17, 2009 8:44 am

Already fumbling over words and shifting awkwardly, Spectre's cheeks changed to a rosy red as he, for the most part, stared at the ground and allowed Koishii to do as she pleased. Personally, he thought his name was befitting to say the least, but its quality was something he'd never thought of.
"O-oh, you think so? Well I, uh, I like your name too..."

The crooked scowl on his face was as definite as it had ever been. Unprepared and nervous to an almost pathetic extent, Spectre could only stare back into her eyes for a moment with his own blank ones, blinking a couple of times in surprised before quickly shifting his stare back to the ground. Her giggle sent shivers down his spine.
"W-well I come down here every so often as a vacation of sorts. I, um, I actually live quite far north of here."

True, Spectre was a Kuniku who was much more adapt to the colder climates of the north, or at least the mild weather of the central areas of the mainland.
Sensing her eyes upon the back of his neck, he bowed his head a little more, still staring at the ground and occasionally chancing a glance at her paws (he dared not look higher).
"There's really no need to worry, l-like I said, I've had much worse. A, um, a dip in the ocean or river should do it..."
He said this, but as they were towards the center of the island the sea was quite far away, but perhaps Koishii would have her bearings enough to know where to find water.

North? Could Spectre possibly be from her own home of Hokkaido? Koishii made a mental note to ask him later, since there was a more important situation on their hands-- er. Paws. The dark Kuniku had brought up an excellent point that the ocean would aid in the healing process of his minor wound, but the only problem was, they were quite a ways away from water. Well, then. Shifting awkwardly on her paws, Shii lifted her maw, peering around the outside of the ruins as if she could somehow see the ocean from miles away... And hidden behind severely thick jungle. Coming to a conclusion that this was quite impossible, the female sighed and shut her sunset eyes and took a long moment to smell the air. Though it was incredibly humid out, and the smell of anther Kuniku and flowers were quite overwhelming, Koishii could smell the faintest lick of the ocean to her right. If the two of them headed that way, they would be sure to find a river that led toward the ocean, yeah? That was Shii's reasoning, anyway.

"Well, the ocean is a long way out, but I know where it is," Turning her gaze back to Spectre, she blinked her eyes curiously, trying to get used to his own blank orbs. "We can head out in that direction, if you want..? I'm sure there has to be at least some form of water on our way, anyway... If we can't make it to the ocean before sunset." The creamy Kuniku curled her tail around herself, appearing quite feline as she looked around again, quite obviously not able to stay still for any amount of time. In her glance around, something had come to her attention again, and she smiled politely at Spectre. "Hold on a second." Her eyes had landed on the fabled blue daisy that had brought her here in the first place, and she stood, trotting a few paces away to it. If they were leaving, she would have to take one of these with her. Maybe she could try and give it to a human to harvest the seeds, allowing the flower to spread throughout the world!

With a slight shiver of delight, Koishii bent down to pluck the flower from the ground, but she paused in disappointment when she realized that the stem was covered by its thorny vines, protecting it from any predators. "Oh..." She sighed, her ears falling quite a bit. She searched for a bit, looking for a way around the thorns, but padded back to Spectre when she could find none. "Nevermind." Shii shook her head, quite deflated. "We can go now, if you'd like."

Spectre only nodded every so often in response to the female's words, his face still feeling terribly warm as he stared at the ground before his own paws, shrouded in mist. Why was his face so warm? Sure it was warm and humid out, but that wasn't the cause. Heat was emanating from his cheeks, he was the source, he just wasn't sure as to why.

As Koishii mentioned that she knew where to find water, the odd Kuniku chanced a glance at her, picking up his head just slightly with his blank eyes trailing over to her. Of course, as soon as he had gotten a good three-second look at the girl, her slender figure and curling tail, his eyes snapped back to his paws and his face, strangely, became even warmer. Spectre didn't even know his face could be so warm, it was getting quite bothersome. With a rather audible gulp he began to twiddle his paws nervously, attempting to gather up the courage to speak again.
"Y-yeah, that would be good... I don't mind walking. L-like I said, it's not even that bad..."

Ears tilted back as he mentally scolded himself for all of the silly stuttering he had failed to prevent he curiously glanced upward again as Koishii approached a pale blue flower- come to think of it, it was the only pale blue flower he'd seen despite the abundant flora around them. Spectre watched as she made to pick it, but stopped.
Perhaps the first thing he'd done calmly all day, the Kuniku stood and walked past her with surprising fluidity and plucked it from the ground with his fangs, thorns at all. Turning, he padded back to her, eyes somehow calm despite their lack of content, and placed it gently on the ground before her. Turning his head to the side he spat out a thorn or two that had punctured the roof of his mouth, but again, nothing serious. After all, he was quite used to worse things than some thorns and a single bite, so he only smiled at her with his crooked mouth.

Koishii's ears twitched at his few stutters, wondering what in the world was making him so nervous. She had only chalked it up to the fact that he had nearly had a heart attack only a few moments ago inside those crumbling ruins. Silently, the female watched him step past her swiftly, and it hadn't even registered in her mind that he was going to pick the thorny daisy before he bent down to it. She opened her mouth to stop him; To tell him it was impossible to pick without getting stuck with its thorns... But he had done it before she could even form words in her mouth. Her molten eyes widened when Spectre lay the flower down at her paws, and it was her turn to begin radiating heat from her creamy cheeks.

"Ah... Th... Thank you, Spectre..!" Shii wagged her tail happily as she carefully separated the actual flower's stem from the tightly wrapped vines. It was much easier, now that the other Kuniku had separated it from the ground. With a careful tug of her claws and the gentle hold on the stem with her teeth, the flower separated from its defenses and was left as harmless and innocent as a newborn pup. Just as beautiful, too. Once taken from its thorny vines, Koishii brought her tail around to slip the blossom into the bracelet to hold it in place while they traveled. She wagged her tail a few times, glad to see that the pale blue flower stayed in place, and she turned back to Spectre, her eyes bright with joy.

"This means a lot to me," Koishii nodded, taking a few steps toward the edge of the clearing. "I won't ever forget this." And she was being completely honest. She had dreamt of this flower as a pup when her mother used to tell her about its beauty, and here she was, finally able to bring it home for her. She would go to a human to have them grow more... And in not too long, she would be able to share the flower's beauty with the rest of Nippon.

"Shall we go, then?" The cream-coloured Kuniku waited for Spectre to begin to follow her before she stepped out into the jungle from which they came in the first place. The trip to the ocean would be fairly long, but in that time, Koishii had hoped to get to know the other, and she had decided to start off, by asking him about his own home. "So, you said you were from the North... That wouldn't happen to be Hokkaido, would it?" She smiled over at him, starting to get used to his strange appearance.

Unfortunately, once the poor Kuniku was back within the grips of reality, having completely lost touch with it as he went to pluck the flower for the girl, he blushed furiously and his head immediately dropped to his chest, eyes wide and staring at his paws. It was only then that he noticed that he was sitting fairly close to her, as Koishii's paws were also within his field of vision. It was all so strange.
He nearly jumped at the mention of his name- he wasn't at all used to hearing it out loud, particularly being spoken by another, and yet MORE uncommon by a female.
"I-it's nothing..."

Out of the corner of his eye the strange Kuniku watched as the lovely girl skillfully removed the dangerous parts of the flower and placed it carefully in between the beads of her bracelet. When she spoke to him once again he couldn't help but smile at her words, though with his head bowed there was no way for her to see, and chuckled uneasily. It was just a flower, right? Maybe, maybe he would ask her later if he could gather up the courage.

"Oh- right! Yes, let's go..."
Surprised as he had all but forgotten that he had a wound that was probably festering by now, he got to his feet and trotted over to her, stopping abruptly before reaching her so that he was beside, but somewhat behind her. At her question his ears perked up and he blinked. Why would she ask him something like that? The poor guy knew nothing of socializing.
"Uh, um..." The sad thing was that he honestly had to think about it for a moment. "Well that's where I spend most of my time, Hokkaido- I'm pretty sure I was born there..." He chanced a quick and curious glance at her before going back to staring at the ground.

Spectre's answer was more than just a little surprising to Koishii. On two levels. One, being that he spent most of his time in Hokkaido, but she had never seen him before while she was there, and two... The fact that he didn't know for sure if he had been born there or not. While she found this quite strange, it didn't make her think any less of him at all. If anything, it interested her even further with him. She padded along beside him in silence for a moment, watching the flora around them uncurl as she laid eyes on the different blooms.

"The reason I asked is because I'm from Hokkaido myself," Koishii nodded, and a small smile spread across her lips when she thought of her home. "I was actually on my way back there from my..." Could Shii even call it a trip? The female had taken off without telling anyone... And she felt selfish for doing so. She had become so overwhelmed with the uprising of demons in Nippon... She had abandoned her own pack and in turn lost her magestic horns... With a small shudder from the memory, she refocused on their conversation and finished her sentence. "I went on a small trip." Koishii had decided that Spectre didn't quite have to know about her cowardice actions.

In fact, he would be a lot better off if he just continued not knowing them.

The Kuniku's mind began to wander yet again, and she felt a small wave of panic rush over her at the thought of her old friends not welcoming her back home. It was Koishii's number one fear right now, and she couldn't help but get caught up in it for a moment before she took a deep breath and continued to speak, not wanting to drop their conversation. "I miss Hokkaido a lot, actually." she nodded, glancing over at Spectre again, never able to catch his eyes since they were always focused on the jungle floor.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 16, 2009 2:04 pm

Since Spectre wasn't very accustomed to conversing with others, he failed to notice the oddity of his answer. His birth was so very long ago and in any case he tried to put his childhood behind him for the most part, so a lot of his past was quite blurry to him. He even wished that he could forget even more of it at times- but today was turning out to be a day he never wanted to forget.

In general he was walking beside the graceful fae, and slightly behind of course. Actually walking side-by-side with her was a little more intimacy than he was ready for, and probably rude anyway. Who would want him walking next to them? It was a wonder that she wasn't appalled by him or cared to be seen with him at all. Of course, they were in a jungle and not many people nor Kuniku were around.

"You're from Hokkaido?" He looked up at her slightly from his bowed position- he looked like a shamed wolf, the way he walked with his tail and neck hanging down. "I wouldn't have guessed- I-I mean you seem like you'd be from a... warmer place."
Indeed Hokkaido was a harsh place to live, particularly in the winter. For a moment he drifted off and his tail and ears raised a bit as his mind wandered to the two of them, Koishii and himself playing in the snow. Naturally he was quickly thrust back into reality and scolded himself for thinking about such silly things. Since the fantasy had been very fleeting he caught the last part of her story- that she'd simply gone on a trip. Spectre furrowed his brows; he couldn't help but think that he sensed some of the anxiety he knew so well in her words, but he wrote it off as soon as the thought occurred to him.

After filtering the thought from his mind he unconsciously looked up and, accidentally meeting with Koishii's vivid eyes, his own darted back down to the ground and he felt his cheeks become flustered once again.
"Wh-what do you miss about it?"
He asked quickly, sounding a little winded, as it was the first thing that came to mind.

Koishii glanced over to him again, curious at his behaviour. He was behind her a little bit, and his nose and tail were so far to the ground, it was a wonder that they weren't hitting the dirt below them. The posture didn't offend her in the least, but it did make her wonder what had happened to this poor Kuniku to make him this nervous. Immediately, she thought of his strange appearance; The mist, the odd mouth, and his eyes, especially... But, shouldn't any other Kuniku be able to get over looks? Or, was Shii just oblivious to normal behaviour to strange things?

The fae nodded, smiling a little when she was asked about Hokkaido. "Yes. I was born there, and I've lived there for all of my life, until recently, that is. Though, I won't deny that it's nice to see Nippon every once and awhile." She chuckled softly, continuing to pad through the jungle by Spectre, trying to inch her way back beside him, not able to understand why he couldn't stand as an equal to her.

"As a pup, I used to get lost in the snow a lot, because of my colour," She smiled at her fond memories. "My mother used to have to make me fly everywhere, since I never really grasped the 'light paws' concept."

Koishii was quiet for a moment after Spectre asked her what she missed about Hokkaido. The answer to her was obvious in some ways-- She missed her friends, her adopted child, Sazanami... And she missed everyone being together. Happy. The times before the outbreak of demons. Before her mother was killed. Before Shii had decided to run. Instead of saying all of this, the cream fae merely smiled and responded with a simple answer.

"I miss having a home. And I miss the winter flowers, too. You can't find them anywhere except Hokkaido." her tail wagged a bit, and she glanced back at the pale daisy that had still not faded since it was picked. There was a certain joy she got from knowing that flowers could never die on her watch.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 19, 2009 6:46 pm

The poor Kuniku couldn't help but feel a sense of wrenching emptiness- while he could imagine all of the things she spoke of to a certain extent, he knew nothing of them. Spectre couldn't recall his family, if he'd ever had one in the first place. He remembered well attempting to tag along with older, strong Kuniku, and many times being rejected.

"I-I do remember the snow- I could never actually walk anywhere. I always had to hop to get to places." He chuckled uneasily, still not quite comfortable with casual conversation but making an effort nonetheless. "I wasn't the most graceful pup- always fell through the snow..."

Spectre noticed her inching closer to him, but made no effort to stop this from happening. After all, he wanted this to happen. Unfortunately, he was far too timid and unassertive to take any kind of action. It was far too soon anyway... just because he fell in love with anything that showed him any kindness doesn't mean that anything ever returned the feelings.

The Kuniku had to wonder- what a coincidence that they met here in the jungle, so far from the home that they both hailed from. He almost wanted to believe it was fate, but he was never one to subscribe to those kinds of silly beliefs. Still, it was a nice thought, and again he let his mind wander, and for a moment a smile even slipped past his defences.
"Hmm~"

"The snow is absolutely beautiful, isn't it?" A soft smile pulled itself across Koishii's lips as she continued on, subconsciously moving herself closer to Spectre as they walked. It really had been quite awhile since she had an extensive conversation-- Or even interaction with another Kuniku, and the odd male was just so kind, she honestly couldn't help but gravitate toward him. Really, Shii hadn't quite been this happy since she had decided to 'adopt' Sazanami, and that was... A long, long time ago. Again, the amount of time that had passed hit Koishii like an uppercut to the jaw, but she was able to recover quicker, thanks to the other's presence, and offering of conversation.

And on they walked, speaking first of home, then of likes... Dislikes... Favourite colours, seasons... And then, the conversation took a turn down a strange path. Koishii really had no idea why she was asking in the first place, or what compelled her to do so--It was probably rude of her, and she would have to apologize severely if she had hit a sensitive spot with Spectre... And hope that he didn't turn the question back on her.

"Do you have someone special in your life, Spectre?" And as soon as the words were formed, she regretted them instantly. You weren't supposed to ask questions like that so early in a friendship-- Why did she want to know, anyway? It's not like she was looking... But it wasn't like she was exactly taken, either. If her old mate Kasei had any brains at all, he would have stopped waiting for her a long time ago. Deep down inside, Shii knew that was what had happened, but she couldn't bring herself to hate him for it. The cream Kuniku had done this to herself.

But hey. Maybe that was supposed to happen so that she could meet Spectre.

Inwardly shaking her head, she cursed herself for thinking such stupid thoughts after she had just met this Kuniku only an hour and some ago, and she awaited Spectre's defining answer that she was secretly hoping was a 'no'.

Secretly, of course.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:36 pm

Spectre nodded in response- he had to admit, he loved the snow. It was chilly, but peaceful; the little white flakes cascading down in flurries, covering everything around him in white. Not to mention it was fairly scarce in terms of the presence of others, which was always welcoming for a creature like him.
But no, he wouldn't let himself get depressed by his loneliness. After all, he wasn't alone right now. In fact, he and Koishii had been chatting for quite awhile now, this may have even been the longest he'd ever conversed with another before. The Kuniku found himself sneaking glances at the female, his eyes gliding across the ground to her feet, up her legs, to her face, but never meeting the eyes.

It was during one of these subconscious sessions that Koishii asked her question. Spectre snapped back to reality, jerked his head forward, blank eyes wide as he felt the heat of his cheeks underneath his fur grow.
"I-I uh, wh-what do you mean by special?"

Who was he kidding? Special, there wasn't anyone significant in his life. He had no friends, no family, nothing. He had just been so taken aback by the suddenness of the inquiry that he had to stall somehow. And anyway, why was she asking that? Why did she care? Surely she wasn't interested in him or anything about him.

His legs only continued to move forward because it was such a mechanical, unconscious action. The strange Kuniku's mind was buzzing with panic, questions and concerns, and with her. Naturally he didn't realize that he'd reverted back to intensely bowing his head, eyes staring widely at the ground with his tail between his legs.
He was terrible at this.
