"Yes I did." This came with a sniff, disdainful, and it was more than possible that Nettle really believed he had. Either that, or he was a fabulous liar. Either was possible, really.
"...but I'll repeat it, again, more slowly this time. And I suggest you still your clomping feet, as they seem to be rendering you deaf." He tossed his head, turned a look on Burning Bright again, and raised his own bushy brows. "NETTLE."

Burning Bright silently went over their conversation thusfar, and thought he could safely say that no, this other buck had not told him his name. He hadn't even hinted toward it! He liked to think he was paying particular attention to his company, and it partly concerned him that there was a suggestion that he did not, but as Nettle rounded on him he would remain quiet, looking down at the other as he allowed himself to be spoken to like a child.
He did slow his feet a little, but only because Nettle was looking at him. "Nettle," He'd echo, getting a taste for the word before he grinned slightly, "Pretty fitting, since you seem a bit of a bristly b*****d. Well, more mucky right now." He corrected himself, his eyes sweeping over the older buck's coat.
"So, Nettle, tell me a bit about yourself. Have you been in this part of the swamp all your life?"

Nettle was mucky for the moment, but wouldn't be for long: in the distance before them, the shimmer of a relatively-clean pond caught at the corners of their vision, promised a rippling pool of water. It made Nettle straighten his neck, perk a bit, eyebrows raised and legs stretched to pick up the pace and make Burning Bright dance along behind him.
He chose to not hear the suggestion of his personality. Nettle was good at selective hearing. "Who said I even live in this part of the swamp now?"

The big buck didn't actually have to do much to keep up with the other, lengthening his stride before putting in a trot. "Race ya!" He challenged the older buck, almost teasing as he fell in step with the other.

"...no." It was slow, with an arch of one eyebrow and a careful shake of his head. Hardly. Racing was undignified. Of course, so was halfway trotting to make the poor buck dance along behind him...
He seemed to realize this and slowed, grumbling something unflattering under his breath. "I thought you wanted to go find food."

"Eventually, I really, really would." Burning Bright sounded a little wistful with the thought. As they came along to the small body of water, the buck paused, glancing around carefully before he moved to walk right into the pool, wetting down his scales and fur before he reached back to try and nose some of that muck off of his flank. "But I figure I'll keep you company for a little while. Maybe there's something around here."

"There are cranberries about a mile that way." Nettle gestured sharply with his nose, chin tipped up and eyes narrowed as he splashed awkwardly down into the pond. Whether or not he was telling the truth was anyone's guess, however. He had proven himself to be less-than-honest already.

"Is that so?" He mused, and it was clear he was considering it, his eyes flickering in the direction Nettle mentioned. He backed up some to look and see that the mud was all gone from his hide. It was. He took a slow, but long drink of the water after stepping away from the place he'd washed off, his large barrel of a chest heaving with a contented sigh. "Will you come with me, then? I would not be done with your company so soon. I'm sure there must be enough for the both of us, and even if not, I would be more than willing to simply split it with you."
