Uktenath was easily comforted, at least, now that the Weyrpest was sent scurrying off and His was there to look after him. His eyes graduated from orange to green, skipping most shades between the two, and he bent his head to his rider for proper scritchings.

"Shells, Uk, you don't have to be that nice to kids," O'asis was telling him. "If they're giving you that much trouble, shove them off!"

He was very small, Mine. I did not want to hurt him accidentally, Uktenath reasoned mildly. He was growing quickly, and graceful though he was, he was sometimes surprised by his strength - around a person so tiny and vulnerable, he barely dared to breathe!

"Softie," O'asis grunted accusingly, stroking the bronze's cheek. Then he saw Renna, standing with eyes awed and glazed by the kitchen cavern, and grinned to her. Uktenath, I know you're not much for strangers, and probably less now than a candlemark ago, but....

The bronze lifted his head, looking to the girl. Abruptly, he sat; his head pulled up tall and straight, and he assumed his usual, proud stance. It is all right, Mine. She may say hello.

Impressed by his dragon's willingness to socialize (maybe he was just growing to a point that humans mattered less to him? Scary thought, that, though he was obviously concerned of their well-being still,) O'asis waved Renna over. "Going to stand there, or you want to introduce yourself properly?"

It was odd to only hear one half of a conversation, but in all the time she spent around the Weyr, Renna was getting used to it. She knew that O'asis could simply communicate with Uktenath in a way that she could not hear, and so, quietly, she wondered if he was trying to put her at ease by addressing the dragon out loud, of course knowing nothing of the comments he made to his dragon in privacy.

The teen cracked a smile when the dragon sat, turning into piles of ooze inside. She assumed his new posture was in response to O'asis calling him a "softie" and nearly doubled over when she realized that he was simply waiting for an introduction -- to her. Almond brown eyes flickered briefly between O'asis and Uktenath, but it resembled more of a ping pong match of pupils than a calm, collected switching of gaze. She took careful steps forward, almost a shuffle, and came to rest a few feet from the dragon. How do you greet a dragon? The girl, feeling the approach of a pregnant pause, involuntarily extended her hand, as if to shake hands with the dragon. A light blush bloomed across her cheeks, and she turned her hand upward, offering a simple wave. "I'm Renna," she said, voice shooting up several octaves. "I've never met a dragon before -- at least not in a long time." Feeling incredibly stupid and immature, she dropped her eyes to the floor before raising them back to the dragon. "It's a pleasure to meet you." The girl was growing uncomfortable with this position of weakness (at least in her mind) that she had assumed. She looked like just a child and, though the rest of the Weyr would probably recognize the teenager as a child, Renna did not want to be perceived that way.

Still, she smiled and tried to disguise her awe -- and probably failed quite miserably.
