Lua smiled at the child. “Nor should you. You are what you are. And I think, if I must, we are born into what we are best suited for. For me, I only need one lifetime to get done all the things that were chosen for me. For others… perhaps, a bit more. But, there’s nothing wrong with being proud of what you are.” After all, Lua himself was still considered himself a traditionalist- even, if only in theory. He was a shifting minority, his homeland snared.

But it didn’t seem as if words were about to help. The cub quieted up pretty fast- and when he shuddered, Lua sighed, and rolled his eyes up to the top of his head. He looked towards Faine. “Well…?”

Faine scrunched his nose and looked away.

“Faine.” Lua warned. This time, there was a noticeable fire to it. A fire that lingered on from a lifetime ago. “Just a kid, Faine.”

Faine sighed and looked towards the cub. Still shuddering. “It’s nothing personal.”

“That’s right,” Lua thrummed. “Faine dislikes everyone indiscriminatingly.”

“Uff-No, that's not it.“ He started. “I don’t dislike you, kid. I don’t even know you. I just dislike the notion that carries through most gods, that we are something special. Or above. I’ve seen far worse sins committed by gods then mortals. I…” His voice trailed off, and he looked aside. “I’m not good with people.”

“That’s an understatement.” Lua remarked. And then, with his big mitt of a paw, he patted the cub on the head. “Ah! But, we have good times too. Tell him about the ladies! Remember Ein? Or Lyla? Now those were good times.”

“And, so we walk into one child-trauma to another.” Faine lamented. But, for the first time, he smiled a bit.

“You see, you can’t take any mind to him. There’s good times and bad in what we do. Just like anything. Not everyone smiles all the time, but we ain’t sour souls.” The young lion chuckled.

While it wasn’t entirely his fault, it was part of his fault. There was no sense of accomplishment in that things were alright, and he still felt a hard stone in his throat at knowing he had a slip-up when speaking. Talking to others was very important to him, so when he was scolded for what he said, he took it to heart. He would have to be aware that not all gods thought the same way he did, nor were all gods in the same position he expected them to be in. When he saw a mortal and god again, he would have to remember not to jump to quick conclusions that someone had any sense of power over the other, even if one was immortal or not. He also had to think twice about the fact that not all gods would naturally want to friendly to the same members of their kind. Not only that, in this case, he wasn’t even starting with a clean state, but already set opinions and thoughts. Next time, he would have to take things easy and feel around first to see how others felt about something before he dived into conversation. He had to learn about who he was talking about before sharing what he felt. Someone might hate him for what he said, and if he wanted them to trust him, to like him, and to talk to him, he would have to know them first.

These thoughts were heavy on his mind, and he nodded. Faine didn’t hate him or like him, but didn’t like how he thought. There had to be some grain of truth in what Faine said. He wasn’t perfect, that was very true at this point. He also wasn’t the best god. Right now, he wasn’t even a good god at what he did. Lua’s words were ringing in his hears. Mortals and gods were not that different in their failures. Now he wondered who was better off, a god or a mortal. Khuluma guessed that Faine probably felt the later was the better choice.

So much for trying to prove there was something grand about being a god. He didn’t feel grand. He felt small, and even he could tell that his age was being pointed out. He wanted to be treated like an adult, but he wasn’t. Even Faine had to consider his age. Did that give him special treatment?

No. I make the mistake. I’m sorry. I guess – I guess I’ll try not to think too highly of myself. ” He could not even start to imagine what a god might due that was even worse than a mortal, but gods did have power. He guessed that could be used for bad too. There was a good and a bad to everything. Noted.

Perking up, he frowned at having his hair messed up, but the gesture was appreciated. Who knew he would like the company of a mortal better than a god. Khuluma was glad that Lua was around to change the subject. He was a much better talker than Khuluma was. Even the mortal managed the impossible, which was a smile from Faine. Here Khuluma was a god, and a mortal as better at speaking and perking up a immortal than he was! Now that really stung.

Hmm. I guess I still have to learn some things.” Like ladies.

Outside, the storm was growing quite.

Lua chuckled. “That’s life, unfortunately. Even the gods, it seems, have much to learn.” Even they- although they wished to seem so world weary, were budding adults with much more to grasp about the world. For Lua, he had yet to quell a silent rage in himself. And for Faine? Well, this was perhaps a thousandth life, and still no peace.

“But if you can take any advise from a lowly creature, perhaps have it as this,” Lua continued. “To every person is an infinite amount of capability. Not all of it is good, like my friend here likes to remind. In fact, a lot of it is quite ugly here in this world. But, if it were all bad, why then would gods like Faine need to exist? If there were no sense of right and wrong then… why bother? Obviously, by existing, Faine is converse proof to his entire rhetoric.”

“And therein lies the folly,” Faine quoted with a grimace. He didn’t exactly buy what Lua said, but he did agree he was, most of the time, quite the folly.

“Indeed it is.” He smiled. “You should take care, little god. That you neither fall too far or climb too high.”

Faine nodded faintly, and watched as the downpour began to quell.

Unexpectedly, Khuluma was learning through a mortal about gods, and Faine was assisting as being living proof. Gods were living proof of something. That there was an idea, larger than Khuluma could wrap his mind around, of good and evil, and that not everything was all that bad, even though Lua did remind the godling that the world wasn’t dandy either. Gods were neither superior nor lower than anything, but while of a different realm, somehow even to mortals. Just Maybe? Gods processed infinite possibilities in using their powers for great evil, and if this was all a side to another, great good. So what did that mean for him? What great good could he create and what great evil did he have to avoid? He didn’t want to see Faine again as a god who would see him as having done something wrong. He seemed to be a god who knew about sin, could possibly be the god of sin himself, and he did not want to displease him. He also, deep down, did not want to grow bitter towards others.

I’ll keep myself in check. I’ll try at least.” Faine and Lua certainly complimented each other, with Lua reminding him of the good, and Faine reminding him of the bad, and both serving to remind him that he was not to cross the boundaries of thinking that a god meant he was somehow better. He just had to get use to the idea, which would take some time. He wondered, in the end, what this all meant, but he did feel a shift inside him.

I was right though. You two were interesting to talk to.” he said with a smile, and sat between the mortal and the god, watching the skies clear.
