Quiet, Avery let her eyes close at the soft touch. She, much like the older girl, wasn't touched gently. Not since Kess, anyway and that had been quite a while ago. It was interesting. Nice, even, to be treated with care, though it was, of course, rather confusing.

Uuni had done a complete 180 personality-wise, it seemed, leaving Avery startlingly subdued.

A hand, bare of its glove, slid smoothly into Uuni's a slight, soft squeeze her only response to the first half of the brunette's musing as she also stood, shrugging slim shoulders as they exited the candidate's quarters. Her voice was also soft, though whether that was the time of night. the situation, or respect toward those preparing for bed was uncertain.

"... Maybe. These things take... Time... To talk about." A hesitant smile.

Maybe? What kind of an answer was that?

Uuni quirked a brow, but silenced immediately at the feeling of Avery's hand around hers. Walking through the halls like this, they looked just like a couple, huh? Weird.

Okay, so now she was starting to feel really bad for misleading Avery. But it was kind of too late to back out now, right? She couldn't just say, 'ahah, it was all a big joke' and on from there.

"I have time." She did. Not a lie, but she wasn't sure she wanted Avery to talk about it, either. Was she scared of where this was heading? Damn right she was.

"Let's take the path around the bowl. The candidate master will figure it out pretty quick if we hit the lake."

The did indeed look like a couple, and that was probably why Avery dropped the older woman's hand, her hazel eyes looking past her in the dark to where the moon caught and lit pale, pale strands of hair. Accompanied by a small dragonet, the blonde leaned against some rocks, her dragon's head in her capable, affectionate hands.

Her eyes, though, dark, met Avery's and the brunette's face remained blank. They were too far away to talk without shouting, and so she just nodded hello.

A slight smile and the blonde pushed off the wall, leading her dragonet away from the pair, toward the weyrling quarters.

"... The bowl, then." Was her whispered response.

Uuni groaned when Avery dropped her hand. That was the supidest thing she could have done. There were lots of people that held hands! If Kess hadn't been suspicious before, she was certainly going to leer down their neck now.

"You're just going to let her go like that, huh?" she asked in response. Her eyes looked down the hall after the blonde.

She wondered if Avery felt caught and a little ashamed. Worse still, she found the idea of that a huge turn on.

She let it go, eventually, however, but the smile perked across her lips. Unlike Avery, she found nothing wrong at all with what she was doing, and she wouldn't feel any shame for it.

"Why would I follow her?" Avery sounded more resigned than confused, she hooked her thumbs into her belt as her gaze stayed locked on the hall Kess had disappeared down.

She was quiet a long moment, before taking a step in the direction of the weyrling quarters. A pause, and she glanced at Uuni, brow creased. Her voice spoke of distraction, far-away thoughts. "I should see how her arm is doing. Do you want to come?"

Uuni looked over at Avery with a bored expression. She waited as the girl watched and her gaze did not waver.

The quietness stretched on until she had to roll her eyes inwardly at the girl's expression. Honestly, was she really that worried?

Well, there was a question. Did she want to potentially get a book thrown at her or did she want to go find a guy in the halls to spend an evening with? Such a hard choice to make.

"Sure."

Book, here I come.

Reaching out to grab the other girl's wrist again, Avery stared at her for one long moment before pulling her close to give her a strangely gentle kiss. Letting go immediately, the curly-haired girl tried for a smile before starting down the hall.

Kess hadn't been too far ahead of them, but by the time they got to the weyrlings' quarters, the blonde was already preparing and changing for sleep. Condoroth had already been cared for [Kess had been outside giving the dragon as last walk for exercise] and was curled up, drowsy-eyed, her blue/green gaze on the entry-way, and Kess, in breast-band and trousers, had her back to the entry, re-wrapping her arm.

"Come in," was her low murmur, not bothering to turn around. Condoroth, of course, had alerted her to the pair's presence. "You both are well?"

What was that word that meant 'frozen and can't do anything'. Paralyzed? Yeah. That one. It was that one, right?

Eventually she swallowed and pulled her fingers up to her lips. When she ventured farther, she found the beginnings of tears at the edges of her eyes. What the hell?

The intense wave of emotion subsided just as quickly as it had come and by that time, Uuni realized she had better follow Avery down the hall. Quietly.

The way Kess was talking was eerie. It was like a scene out of a book, actually. One of those fantasies where she was just waiting for the villian to leap out of the corner.

"Good as I ever am, Kess," she said brightly. Ah, acting. How she hated it. She started to open her mouth to say something else, but then decided to let Avery take command.

"It's K'lan, actually." The husky tone lacked inflection, and the blonde continued her slow, methodical movements, until she'd finished her task. That was what she was good at, wasn't it? Being a workhorse? Not an actual, interesting person, rather, a soldier. Someone to fill in the ranks and then be forgotten.

A smile touched her mouth and she reached for a loose tunic, pulling it over her fit torso before she turned to regard her 'friends'. It was strange, being a dragonrider. She was apart from them, now.

"Yes, that's right. The honorization," Avery nodded, with surprising respect and also answered the question, her gaze moving between Condoroth and Kesslan. It was hard to tell what, exactly, was running through her blonde ex's mind, as her dragon seemed as peaceful as ever. "I'm doing just fine, thank you. Just out for a walk."

"Just out for a walk." Kess's tone was near amused, like it had always been before the hatching, and her dark eyes ran over the pair, taking her time, calculating.

Uuni swallowed. K'lan. . . was a shitty name, and she didn't like it one bit, but the way it was said shut her up almost immediately.

Avery had guts to keep talking like that, but it didn't seem to affect Kess any at all.

Eventually, the dramatic fear subsided and she gave a heavy sigh.

"Walks really aren't that amusing," she pointed out with a light smile. "Look. Just say it. No time like the present, right?" Hell, Uuni would even give her the book.

The yelling and accusations would be far, far better than this silent, cold-shoulder treatment.

Moving to her cot, Kess pulled out a whetstone for her dagger, methodically honing the blade, head tilted as she concentrated on her work.

"And what would that be, Uuni?" Now she did smile, though it didn't effect the corners of her eyes as it had used to. "I have always been kind, not foolish, despite how you may think those walk hand-in-hand," At the last, she looked at them, acknowledging how the two girls had been seen by her earlier in the evening.

"Neither of you needs to answer to me for anything." The sharpening of the blade continued, slow and steady, the sound filling the weyr.

"No one thinks you're foolish, lov-" Avery's words were cut off by Kess's low, cool voice, slicing through the conversation as her wickedly sharp blade did through flesh. Merciless and unemotional.

"Be quiet, Avery."

Uuni rolled her eyes, found a chair, and slumped in it. Maybe it was a bit inconsiderate and rude of her, but she'd sat through things like this before. She hadn't expected such immaturity from Kess. She really hadn't.

"I'm listening. Keep going." And yes, she was listening and groaning heavily on the inside.

She kept it up until Kess told Avery to stay quiet. In all of that, Kess had put out a clever little pun.

"You realize you're making a big fuss over us holding hands, right? I bet you ten marks you've held Avery's hand before, and hey, it might have even just been because you're friends." If she was going to get jealous, she could have at least caught them kissing.

"Uuni..." Avery's voice was warning, but the free-spirited young woman had continued anyway, going so far as to take a seat in Kess's chair. The blonde wasn't the dramatic sort, it was true, however, she was very polite, and she expected others to maintain a certain sense of decorum, too. If she'd been a dragon, she might've had a flash of color in her eyes at Uuni's behavior.

Of course, she had a dragon. One that got to her feet with surprising speed, her eyes beginning to whirl with an agitated yellow as she tilted her head toward her rider's 'guests'.

I do not like this, Mine.

The blonde also stood, setting down the whetstone with a strange thunk and regarded the two, her tone still neutral.

"Do leave my weyr, lest I be forced to escort you."

Uuni glanced in the creature's direction. She half expected Kess to stab in her in the gut over the matter.

It was two against, two, they could take them if they really wanted. That was, if Uuni wasn't a coward.

She guessed her friend count was back down to zero again, but she wouldn't admit that it churned her gut to understand it.

At first, she debated saying 'No, force me to leave'. But, then, she decided if Kess couldn't talk about the matter without hinting she wanted to gut them both, that Kess was no friend worth having. There was no trust there.

"It was nice knowing you, Kess," she piped off as she left, her voice surprisingly light.

Uuni didn't really care if Avery followed. Maybe she'd salvage her friendship with Kess. Maybe she found it worth it.

Avery was right behind Uuni, without a hesitation. Being a friend to Kesslan meant respecting what the girl wanted, not by forcing her into a conversation. The blonde was an introvert who made decisions and stood by them.

The brunette wasn't afraid of losing her loyal friend, but she knew she'd upset her. Catching up to Uuni, she spoke, tone quiet and urgent. "Kessy is a good, strong person. And a good friend. If you're interested in having her, then leaving was the right decision." She shook her head. "She just doesn't talk much."
