Feely definitely did cook fast. The speed with which Crowley devoured his sandwiches was probably stunning to anyone who didn't sit with him at lunch - as normal, it wasn't quite filling even though it was really good. "Thanks Feely," said Crowley, then he swallowed the mouthful he had been talking around. As he chewed another bite - Antan tried to teach him table manners and some of them got across, like chewing with his mouth closed, but other things like monitoring the size of his bites he decided to ignore. He was never really full anyway, so why did it matter how much of a sandwich he ate in one bite?
The dark-skinned guy was not Fish's dad, so it had to be that other one, the Mr. Baobab person. He trained his yellow eyes on the stranger's face for a moment. Sure, he agreed silently, this guy looked like him, sort of. "'re not ankle-biters," he said, remembering to swallow before talking this time. "We're like ten."

Fish did not inhale his food quite as voraciously as Crowley did, mostly because he was a fan of not choking. He had not actually met Joshua Baobab before, either, and felt inclined to stare.
"S'an expression," clarified the man, and laughed. Fish was still not sure how much he liked being called an ankle biter, but managed to stop staring. It was sort of rude. And in case he needed any reminding, Ophelia playfully bopped him over the head when she went to give Mr. Baobab his sandwich.
"Thank you, girlie," said Joshua Baobab.
Fish wondered if he even knew his sister's name, and went back to watching as the man began to eat.
"Where are you from, Crowley?" asked the man. Fish elbowed his friend in surprise.

Besides, thought Crowley, he did not in fact bite ankles. He considered biting people when they were all up in his space or whatever the term was, but he'd never actually done it that he could remember. Expression or not - well, since the guy prob'ly hadn't meant any harm, he'd deal.
"I was born on Nur Prime," he said, but something in his tone made it clear that he didn't consider that his ethnicity or anything. "Antan says I look like I'm Australian or something, 'cept for the eyes." She nattered on and on about genetic drift or something, but he didn't much care so he didn't pay attention.
Crowley decided he was suspicious. He polished off the sandwich, then asked, "Why d'you ask?"

"Aye," said Baobab, "Australia. Dreaming. Oz. That'd be it."
Fish went oddly quiet and focused on his sandwich. He really had nothing to say for once. World Painting was one of those things that Prosper and Ophelia didn't really talk about with him.
"Reckon y'don't know much about it," sighed the man. "S'on Earth."

The sudden silence from his friend worried Crowley a bit, but he answered what seemed like an inquiry from the man. "I've never been to Earth," he said, elbowing Fish in a manner somewhat discreet.
Why wasn't this guy answering his question? Crowley was a moron, and blind to most social cues - he wouldn't know a hint if it slapped him upside the head - but even he knew this situation was more than a little bit creepy. "Why d'you ask?"

"My people's youngin's got a habit of getting themselves stolen," said Baobab, and his face seemed to crinkle as he said it. "So, reckoning yer one of ours translated cross time and space to god knows where, Nur Prime? - Don't you think you ought to know yer own culture?"
Fish, by this point, had gone utterly and completely silent and pushed a few crumbs around his plate. Ophelia disturbed the moment of near-perfect silence by clattering the frying pan and handing Prosper a plate.
"Oy, Prosper," said Baobab, "D'you think his parents would mind if I borrowed him for a bit?"
"I don't know," said Prosper. "You'd probably have to ask them. I'm not in any sort of position to say whether they would or not."

"Weren't stolen," said Crowley rebelliously, even though he didn't know how he ended up in a cabbage anyway. But the idea of escaping Enyo and Antan for a while was appealing, yes it was. "But 'd be ok with learning about it."
Crowley looked up at the clock. "Antan will be here to pick me up soon," he said, trying not to look too interested.

"I'll talk t'her, then," said Baobab, as if it had already been decided. He took a bite of his sandwich and nodded. "Good cooking, girly. You don't mind, do you, Prosper?"
Prosper shook his head. "If I know you, it's already out of my hands," he said.
Fish made a face of utter confusion at Crowley. "I don't know what they're talking about," he whispered loudly. Baobab laughed.
