How about a member of the week/month deal, were active members and such can be reconized, maybe itll spark a lil competitive spirit and get members going.
o maybe A banner/home page contest once a month where users can submit ideas for banners that could be used as the banner or home page design, or perhaps a banner hall of fame.

ninja maybe a philosophical sub forum... or something, unless it's covered by the serious stuff... but the sub forum i would have in mind would be more of a combination between the LOL and serious. you could talk about philosophical things that don't really make sense, such as # if strawberries weren't red, what colour would they be? # to stuff that really gets you thinking.
