"Little wall," Izzy agreed, nodding slightly, "Need a do'w!" What good was a fort without a door? There could be no getting in or out that way!

"Door?" Dashiell scrunched up his face in thought. They couldn't make one out of sand. Then he went and tried to pull one end of the tarp out, and swivel it back and forth like the doors at home.

Izzy shook her head. The tarp had to stay where it was, or they wouldn't have walls!
"Just...just...hole-do'w!" Leaving a gap in the wall constituted a door, didn't it?

Dashiell pegged it back down. The fort building was complicated. He'd have just made four walls, left to himself.
"Hole door? Uh, okay!" Dropping himself onto the floor, he took some stones out of his pile and set about pushing the sand into a straight wall-like pile at the gap. He carefully patted the end to try and make one half of a gap.

Izzy giggled and helped, patting down sand. She had met hardcore fort-makers and then there were people like this new boy.
...this new boy whose name she realized she didn't know. The girl stood and smiled.
"Hi. I Izzabewwa."

Dash glanced up. He thought he'd worked out her way of talking, but wasn't sure.
"Uh, what about Izza? I'm Dashiell, but my mum always calls me Dash." he nodded self-conciously.

"Dash! I like that," Izzy smiled, "I Izza o' Izzy o' Issy o' Bewwa...doesn't mattew!" All different people called her all different things, and a few just didn't understand her.

Dashiell rubbed his messy hair and looked shy for a moment. He didn't really like his name that much.
"Izza it is!" Dashiell looked around.
"Ooh, I know, you should come meet my mum!" He leapt out of the fort and pointed up the beach.

...but...but they had just made their fort! Oh well, maybe his mom would come play games with them or something! She might be a cool mom!
"Okay!" Izzy chirped, nodding.

Dashiell had pretty much started running already, and pelted his way up to Neshaka.
"Hi mum!" he chirped. "This is Izza!" he waved around him vaguely.
Neshaka pulled her screen down, and looked less serious than usual.

Izzy smiled and waved, then folding her hands behind her back and flushing slightly.
"Hi..." she cooed softly. She was shy around adults, it seemed!

"Hi there." Neshaka smiled a little. This child seemed rather quieter than Dashiell.
"We made a fort, look!" Dashiell pointed at it. "But now I'm bored." Dashiell tugged on Neshaka's arm. "What can we do?"
Neshaka dug around in her bag for something to occupy him.

Izzy looked over at Dash, slightly offended.
"Could play ball. Could go swimmin' Could explore," she said. Her speech impediment was gone again!

"Why not go rockpooling?" Neshaka pulled out the long net and bucket from her beach bag.
"Yeah! Let's do that!" Dashiell took the net and bucket and hoisted them over his shoulders.
He turned excitedly to Izza to see if she wanted to join in.

Izzy smiled slightly and nodded. Alright, she knew just the best place to go look in tidepools! Up by the lighthouse! She giggled and ran for the rocky walls that surrounded the hill the house sat on before starting to easily climb up. Her suctiony hands made it all so much easier!
