"Working with you would be a privilege, Williams-san, though I do believe I find I will be calling you Obie-chan more then Sensei. And as for the winner, the loser has to buy them a month's worth of whatever ice cream they want. I'd say a year's worth, but neither of us could probably afford more then a month with how much I eat in it."

At the sight of the parlor Makito paused and pulled the bag from his shoulder, zipping open the front pouch to check and make sure he had indeed brought his wallet. He intended to treat his companion, seeing as it was the polite thing to do with him being a man and all, and as the wallet grazed his fingers he felt better.

"And it's good that you're doing what you love, being it directly or indirectly. Before I didn't have any plans for my future, I didn't think I'd live past twenty."

Obie laughed softly and nodded a little.
"I have to admit, that I prefer Obie-chan, especially as I know you'll always be Maki-chan to me," she smiled warmly, pulling hard on Go's leash as they neared more people. "And I'm amused that you seem to think you'll win, limiting the bet as you have," she smirked. Wrapping Go's leash around her hand in the pause in conversation, she looked up as he continued and watched his facial expressionsfor a moment.

"You have no idea how happy I am that you have though, and even more that you've found something you love as well. Your strength is really quite amazing Maki-chan," she smiled.

"It's funny to still be called Maki-chan when I'm twenty-three, it makes me sound like I'm still a little kid back home. Of course no one called me that there either, my family used by full name or a nickname and the people in town called me by my last name."

Makito paused at the door to the creamery as they reached it, a slight puzzled look on his face over Obie's comments about his strength. He'd never really considered himself strong, he probably couldn't take anyone in a fight anymore thanks to years of chemo, but then again she probably was talking about inner strength.

"I'm not that strong, I'm just well adjusted. Anyone would be after having a best friend like I do, though I must admit I think you're the stronger of our little pairing. You were able to move on and seem to carry few fears or regrets over our parting, which actually makes me happy."

"Then Maki-chan is just mine to call you then," she smirked playfully, pausing at the door as he did. Looking down, she released Go's leash from one hand and dug into her jeans' pocket for her coin purse. Laughing a little, she looked up at him and shook her head.

"To see you standing here as healthy as you are, convinces me otherwise. I would not be so fortunate if I had not had Ra and my old sensei, Jessica Montecelli standing behind me, helping me every step of the way," she admitted softly, holding her purse out to him. "Would you mind getting me a cone of strawberry and I'll sit out here with the beast?" she asked with a smile.

"Maki-chan. . . ."

Makito took Obie's coins from her, intending to return them after handing her the ice cream she requested, and he stepped inside the building that was both an escape and a treat during his times at the Academy. How often had he and the woman out front escaped here in the night, their meetings secret and like two loves hiding from unforgiving parents? Now they could meet when they please, eat here as a treat, and somehow he felt the special nature of ice cream shop had weakened.

He ordered the treats from the strangers behind the counter, the people he knew from that time either not working today or long gone from a simple summer job like an ice cream parlor, and as he licked at the lemon that graced his cone he quickly paid and stepped outside. A few napkins were grabbed in his move, to clean up any spills, though he doubted they would be needed.

"And I return bearing gifts. Strawberry for the lady, lemon for the old man who can't seem to find a flavor he likes anymore."

Obsidian smiled as he took her purse and watched him slip inside. Standing at the door, she looked down at Go who was being remarkably patient. Walking over to one of the small tables that had been set up outside the shop, she lowered herself into one of the chairs and ordered Go to sit, which, thankfully, he did, even going a step further to stretch out on the ground beside her. Looking up as Makito returned, she laughed and reached out to take the pink cone he offered her.
"I don't think you ever could really settle on just one flavour," she smirked as she sat back in her seat, glancing down at Go as he lifted his head to see what it was she had.

"So how is Izumi these days?" she asked, feeling rather bold to ask about him. "Has he changed much since we, um... came face to face?" she asked, taking a small bite of her ice cream.

"Probably not on the settling, but after eating so much chocolate while I was doing chemo I learned to hate the taste. Everything I loved started tasting bad, so now I'm trying to find a happy medium for what I can and can't eat. I used to hate citrus and not want anything to do with it, yet here I am eating lemon ice cream without flinching. I wonder if that is change in taste because I've grown as well, or is it just a shift from all my therapy?"

Makito paused in his speaking and eating as the conversation turned towards Izumi, a little sliver of doubt crossing his mind as to whether Obie really cared or she was merely asking to be polite. He knew she probably still hated him, probably would always hate him for what he did, but he would never fault or blame her for it. Izumi had meant to kill her that day in the elevator, and probably any time afterward if Makito hadn't taken him back to Biei-cho by force and necessity.

"Izumi is...doing well enough. As I said before he's currently watching Michihi's daughter, since she went out of country with her husband on some kind of honeymoon, but other then that he really hasn't done anything. We both entered the local university, I don't know what he went in for other then perhaps to stay close to me, and we both managed to make it through the undergraduate courses. I don't know his plans other then making sure I don't leave him behind . . ."
