Before he had turned his horned head around in embarrassment, he had noticed Ash's flames twisting and turning in a most beautiful fashion. Somehow, unlike all the other fires he had seen before, there was something distinctly pretty about it... It didn't make him feel threatened, or afraid that everything he cared for would be engulfed in a deadly inferno. Rather, it soothed his nerves, which he needed in order to open up like this. In a strange way, Tlatim wanted to tell Ash about his thoughts, but he decided against it.... She would probably think him silly for it.
His ears, while they had cooled down just a bit, felt as if they were alight again when she mentioned something about catching her. Of course, he would, without so much as a second thought! But the words she had chosen made it sound like some hidden meaning was lurking there... He nodded, deciding against a comment that probably wouldn't come out right. "I don't see why we couldn't get to them all," Tlatim said, tripping over a few of his own words before finally spitting the sentence out. "I might slow you down a little, though, since I can't really, um, fly... Yeah, let's head to the pond." Tlatim began to shuffle in the correct direction, his long tail drooping and dragging in the snow, creating a crisp, deep, line behind him. It never occurred to him that she could use the line to find him in case they got separated; he was intelligent, yes, and certainly capable of such a thought. However, he merely always walked with his tail held low, apparently even when he was as happy as he was now.

"Of course, it can't hurt anyone. It's just a warm energy that's visible to the eye," Ash took a spot a couple of feet behind and to Tlatim's right. "I've never really told anyone, but I'm able to manipulate fire . . . I can control it I mean, but I can't make it pop out of thin air," she joked on the last part and gave a small laugh. She wasn't sure why, but she felt like she could trust him.
Her tail swayed back and forth, as she tucked her wings in, "You won't slow me down at all! I'd rather walk with you, it's beautiful out. Plus, I wouldn't want to miss anything you can show me," her eyes brightened up and a wide smile crossed her maw. Ash studied the line his tail made in the snow. That made her wonder what her prints looked like. Looking down, she watched her paws with curiousity. It was amazing! Ash stopped and started to jump a couple of feet. She stared at the prints and noticed the difference. When she jumped, they were deeper than when she walked. Ash then gazed at his paw prints. They were bigger compared to her petite ones. "I've seen my prints in mud before, but this is so cool!" She'd never had this much enthusiasm before. But she never really liked living around lions either. The males seemed territorial and the females, well they just weren't nice. It was because she was smaller than them, and they looked down upon her as an outcast. "I wouldn't mind living here, it's much better than with the other . . . Lions," Ash practically hissed the last word, and her face twisted in a grimace.

"That's amazing," he said, honestly in awe over her powers with flames. He wished that he could manipulate snow... Well, actually, rolling it around and making things out of it probably counted. However, he decided not to mention it; he would sound like an idiot, since anyone could really do that. "I guess you don't have to worry about being burned, then. Being able to do anything besides, um, burning in it seems pretty cool to me."
It was a nice day out. Sometimes, blizzards would come by, ruining any chances of having a peaceful walk like this one. Walking in horrible weather like that was just far too dangerous. But today, Tlatim was enjoying the weather, as well as his company. When she mentioned her pawprints, the blue dragon broke into a laugh. It was nice seeing someone appreciate something so small that he had stopped noticing it. "There's something unpleasant about mud footprints," he snickered at last. By then, though, she had moved on to another topic of conversation.
"Other lions?" he thought out loud, cocking his head to the side. Before Ash, he couldn't recall actually meeting a lion. Tatania could often be caught talking down about them, but she did that about a lot of things... "What have other lions done to you?" he asked, immediately regretting the question. What if she didn't want to talk about it? His smile faded somewhat as he looked back, his eyes holding an apologetic expression.

Ash smiled and nodded, "It is. And it can be helpful, even if others don't acknowlegde it, I've saved two cubs from a blazing forest fire. It tired me out, but it was worth it. I made my first friend after that, but she's passed on now and her children don't remember me," she didn't hang her head or seem sad about it. Ash kept the memory of her old friend in her heart and that she had saved two lives, which she was proud of. "If we ever get the chance, I can cool the heat of fire down and make it touchable. It's really a fantastic sensation!" she had a wide smile and went from walking to prancing like a deer.
"Yes there is, it doesn't look right or feel right. Maybe it's because mud is just too sticky," Ash went back to an easy trot by his side and peered around. It sure was beautiful out. How the white lit up everything was something she didn't see every day. And the temperatures were perfect too! It felt cool and relaxing, giving her a feel of serenity for the second time in her life.
At his question she frowned, but kept her tone even, "They think that since I'm a lot smaller than them in size, they can pick on me and drive me away from my home. This morning a lioness had already tried that, but she underestimated me and my speed. I try to keep on top so I'm not overpowered or defeated. But males, they as well think they can take advantage too. I hate being around them, just the sight of another makes me want to fight them. I've been treated badly by most," she went into what she hoped was a long story put short. Ash saw the look in his eyes and smiled, her tone brightened up, "But that's all water under the bridge now. I don't have to worry about a thing because I'm here with you! And you're very kind. Having a friend like you reminds me there is good in this world."
She hadn't told him she'd never used her powers against the lions that attacked. Ash feared that if the lions knew about her Gift, they'd try to capture her and use her powers to their advantage. They sought after power and glory, and having her as their pet would make obtaining power very easy.

"That's awful," he muttered quietly. Size was no reason to pick on someone... The powder blue dragon happened to know this first-hand, from his sadistic "brother," Kane. However, he could tell that Ash was strong; she could handle such things without rolling onto her back and taking whatever punishment someone wanted to dole out. In this way, they were completely different. Not once had he ever tried to fight against Kane's cruel games. He had only ever tried to hide and, until he found this snowy paradise, he had never even succeeded at that endeavor. Ash, on the other hand, was brave. Pure admiration gleamed in his eyes for a moment before he looked ahead once more. He wasn't exactly paying attention to where they were going that time. Rather, he was trying to think of something else to say.
"Uhm... Thanks... But, if you ever need somewhere to hide from lions like that, you can come here. I'd be happy to help you out." He brightened the expression on his face to one of encouragement and looked back at her for a moment.
When he turned his head yet again, he nearly jumped. The pond lay there, shimmering in the sunlight that tried to soften it, with no avail. It seemed almost larger than he remembered. However, he knew it was just in his head; ponds didn't just grow out of the blue like that. It was probably the optimism that he was feeling today... Yes, that must have been it.
"That's the pond over there," he said with a smile, still a bit puzzled on how short that long walk had seemed. He chuckled lightly, flexing the dagger-like claws once more. This was bound to be fun! He'd only ever skated alone before.

Ash gave a small smile and nodded warily, "It is awful, or it was. Less and less lions try to look for me since I finally took a stand about a year ago." For a moment she said nothing more and instead enjoyed the quiet and his presence by her side. Glancing over to see what his expression was, so she could maybe catch what he was thinking, Ash thought she saw something sad in his eyes and then something else. . .Possibly admiration for her? She wasn't completely sure, and so she said nothing about it, but somehow it made her feel joyful. A tingle ran through her belly before it seemed to fan out through the rest of her body, making her feel energetic and ready to do almost anything.
"Thank you as well, I'll remember that next time," Ash looked back to him and smiled warmly, feeling her cheeks warm up as she blushed slightly. His smile was encouraging and made him look charming in a way that she'd never tire of. It could've been the sun playing tricks on her, but she thought he also had a sort of gleam in his eyes.
Ash glanced away, hoping he hadn't caught her blushing, but quickly turned her attention in the direction of his gaze as she felt Tlatim almost jump. Her eyes couldn't believe what she was seeing, and her mouth dropped open in awe. It was one of the most enchanting sights she'd seen in her life! Shutting her mouth, she shook herself mentally and smiled.
"Oh wow, it's beautiful. Does it stay like that all year round?" she asked curiously. The walk had seemed so short, like time had no bounds and flew at any pace it wished. "I . . . I don't know how to skate well, is it safe?" Ash asked as she began to pad slowly toward the pond, only to stop a few feet in front of him.

"I've never seen it thawed out... So yeah, I think so." Luckily, the weather in this snowy wonderland was typically consistent, unless it got even colder. Tlatim, with his thick, blue coat and longing for peaceful solitude, didn’t mind in the least. Most lions and dragons, he’d wager, were more fond of the tropical climate on the rest of the island. Aside from, perhaps, Ash. She seemed to be enjoying the weather just as much, if not even more than he was! It was delightful to see her this happy. There was just something about that smile of hers… It was cute. … He didn’t just really think that did he? Perhaps he didn’t catch her blushing because he was trying to regain his own composure.
"Um, it should be safe," he replied as he swallowed the lump in his throat, looking over to her as he raised a paw. "Just keep your claws out and your legs stiff at first, until you get a feel for standing on it. And then you just... slide..." He gave a sort of cough and sighed, "Sorry. I've never really taught anyone about it before. If you fall, though, try not to hit your chin." A half-nervous flicker of his ears followed; he'd learned that piece of advice the hard way. Seeing your own blood leaking onto the chilly surface with a touch of rising steam wasn’t exactly fun. Not to him, anyway. "Would you like me to show you first...?" The last thing he wanted was for her to get hurt out here. And who knows? Maybe she learned best by example, like he did?

She nodded and took a deep breath. The frosty air was refreshing and cleared her mind of any worrying thoughts that she might embarrass herself in front of him. Tlatim was sweet and perhaps maybe the one person she could see herself spending almost everyday with if he'd allow it . . . Was that what she really thought about him? Were these her thoughts? They scared her for a moment and almost had Ash turning back, but something held her in place as she watched him. Nah, what she was feeling she figured she was mistaking them for something more than what they really were. Tlatim was her first real friend in a long time. That's all it was. . . Was it?
"It must stay pretty cool all year round then!" Ash said pointing out the obvious. With another nod, she agreed to watch him first before actually trying to skate herself. She never was one who learned by watching, but then again she was a quick learner so maybe it'd be easier from visuals. "Okay, claws out," she said to herself, "Legs stiff . . . And then you just slide?" Ash touched one paw to the solid ice and nearly jumped into the air. "I've never felt solid ice before to be honest," she giggled and smiled brightly. She felt like a cub again with a sort of carefree joy bubbling up. Waiting, she watched him for a few moments before she got up enough nerve of her own to try. Going at a jog, she jumped onto the ice and locked her legs in place as she went sliding one way, not sure how to control where she went. But giggling away, Ash spun in circles before sliding to one side and into a mound of snow on the edge.
