Pharaoh Ramases Stitch_Stalker Con for movie musicals these days-the lip synching is usually HORRIBLE! I mean, I loved Phantom of the Opera, but there were a lot of times when you could tell the dubbing was off and it was so distracting! (You don't hit high notes like that with your mouth barely open!) *Rant rant rant* I can agree with you, but (surprising as it sounds) I do know people who can get a lot of sound and hit high notes like that with barely opening their mouth. A boy in seventh grade suprised us all when he sang really loud during his solo but barely opened his lips. He is a very beautiful singer.

PossessedByDevil Here we can discuss upcoming musicals. There are four musical movies that I know of coming within the next two years or so. Sweeney Todd Rent The Producers Pippin Hairspray Bombay Dreams? This is a thread where we can discuss the pros and cons of these musicals being turned into movies. And if we think the right directors are hired, shall be hired. Who we hope is cast if it is not cast yet, for instance Sweeney Todd and Pippin. And, well, just discuss. There's already a movie version of Hairspray. It has Divine and Ricky Lake in it. I'm for these musicals becoming movies, because I don't live in NY and I don't have the money to see a real Broadway musical. Luckily, though, my choir might be going to NY next year, so we might get to go to Broadway! *does little happy dance*

But they are making the musical hairspray into a movie. The musical was based on the movie and now they are turning it back into a movie.

PossessedByDevil WickedElphie Bombay Dreams is also in planning from what I understand. Really? I didn't hear that yet. I'll put it up there with a question mark until I can find out what's going on with that. Yup I saw an article about it on www.playbill.com about a month ago, maybe two. I remember cus I was sitting in the computer lab at school and I cringed aloud and everyone turned and looked at me.

So let me get this straight: The Producers and Hairspray are being made into movie/musicals based on a musical based on a movie? heheh. That reminds me of when the Summer Performing Arts co here (note: Here=ND, that means VERY few colored people) did The Wiz. It was the white version of a black musical based on a white movie/musical based on a book. And the director actually put that in the program! It was hilarius.

Here is it! I found it! http://www.playbill.com/news/article/88785.htmlIf you don't wanna click, it basically said that a movie of Bombday Dreams is "...currently being developed, and shooting will most likely be done in India."And it also says that a musical remake of Sunset Blvd is "still a screen possibility." But that one they've been talking about for about a year.

But that one they've been talking about for about a year. Some one has to kill Webber so he stops producing all of his crap. I love phantom, I love JCS. But look what he did to them with his movies. They weren't totally great to begin with. I mean Music of the Night is a rip off of school days and parts of Past the Point of No Return are rip offs of So in Love from Kiss me Kate. But those movies lower the level of the shows. Some one must stop him from producing crap! Thank you. I'm better now.

Das_Naughty! What do you all think of phantom of the opera. We are doing phantom at my college and they keep comparign us to the movie. bad news! Ouch. Sucks to be compared to a movie. That's what happened last summer when a local theater here did Chicago. I wasn't in it, but I knew a lot of people who were. They were awesome. I think Phantom was incredible, but I also havn't seen the stage version. So I have nothing to compare it to, which I think is a good thing, because then my opinion wasn't biased.

I wasn't impressed by the movie. They toned down a lot. Don't get me wrong. I know one has to tone it down so it doesn't seem fake. But the costumes were toned down meanwhile it takes place in an opera house where everything should be toned all the way up. The costumes, I thought, should have still looked ridiculous. The way it was directed made it come off so corny. I was pissed off about how Masquerade came out. I hated how they toned down the make-up for the phantom's face. When the mask was taken off I was like, "So he was called the devil's child and shunned from the world because of three zits?" I thought the only good acting in it was done by Minnie Driver. I felt like the Phantom was doing his best imatation of crawford. He accents the same parts. He had no real interpretation of the role. I was fine with the rock voice. His acting just really bothered me. He was also too young to play the part. It was hard for me to think that him and Madame Giry were the same age.
