Demi watched her mentor's reaction with avid interest as the color drained from her face and she turned from her. "Wow, you must have used some ultimate secret sexy technique on him or something!" She mewed with an awed tone. She gave a quiet giggle when the older cat determinedly steered their conversation away from the orange tom again and padded up to a human girl. Oh. So this is what she meant by swindling the humans...
Demi was used to more sneaky and forceful tactics. Letting the humans see her made her hold back, that memory from her first day on her own returning to her. With ears tilted back a little in discomfort, the kit glanced back to her bobbed tail and murmured something inaudibly. Turning to watch Demi work again, she slowly inched toward the human, her ears and head hung low in apprehension as she offered a cute, high-pitched rolling mew. She did her best to keep her stub of a tail hidden from view, pinning it down against her rump; maybe it would be less alarming to the human to see no tail than to see half of a tail...

The girl turned her head to the smaller cat and smiled brilliantly. “You brought a friend! And a cute one at that.” She reached down and handed the two females some of her food before being called on by one of her friends and having to dart off to class. She smiled behind her at the cats with encouragement before being pulled away.
Alice looked at her apprentice and winked, eating her half of the meal quietly, when she responded she decided a critique would be best. “You know you shouldn’t hunch your shoulders like that, and keep your tail proud, who gives a damn what they think of it, as long as you think it’s beautiful they won’t care.” Smiling lazily she dipped her paw into the fish pond and watched the clouds roll over the waters reflection. She purred happily, this is where she belonged, no heart, no problems all alone… well almost alone. She gazed up at Demi and smiled brilliantly, an Idea coming to her. “You know, this is where I keep my things. I have a cello, and you have a beautiful voice, shall we make some music?” Quickly she got to her feet and went behind the fountains purifier, producing her pride and joy. Her first love… her ideal happiness... Vivian the cello.

Demi dived into her half of the meal gratefully and began eating with eager abandon. Alice's words did not get by her, however, and she drew her ears back and glanced up at the Somali. Under normal circumstances, the young kit would agree with a strong resolve, and if they had been confronting another cat, she would have had no problem with her tail the way it was. Yet, Humans seemed to be different for the dappled cat; she didn't want to see another reaction like before. "I guess it doesn't matter any longer, though..." She murmured to herself, licking the last bits of the meal from her whiskers as she stood to follow her mentor. She was on her own now; humans hadn't wanted her, so what did it matter what they thought of her now, huh?
With a helpless grin, Demi shrugged to herself and gazed up at Alice as she played in the pond. Her ears perked at mention of a cello and making music; was this part of being sexy too? Bounding over to her, the young girl's eyes lit up and she nodded. "I didn't know you played an instrument too," She mewed, tipping her head to the side a little, "you know how to do all kinds of things huh? I suppose I could sing with you."
Honestly, Demi enjoyed singing, but it was something that she didn't do often. She liked the sound of a good voice to accompany nice music; however, she didn't seem to find music around town all that often. Perhaps it was because she was always moving around...? "I'm not sure I'll know the words to the songs you know, but I'll do my best!" Straightening, the bobtail flicked her tail happily and put a hand to her chest.

Alice shook her head and laughed brilliantly. Music was something she understood, and something that needed little to no talent to comprehend. “You need no words to make a song.” The female winked and stood, making the Koi disappointed that their new toys had disappeared, which coincidentally were her toes. She quietly made her way to the reeds by the fence and produced her large instrument. It was old, but that was in Alice’s opinion what made it beautiful, the antique feel to the large piece reminded her of the old woman that took care of her, but the thought quickly evaporated… life was too short to dwell on the past. She sat on a rock gracefully and pulled the thing between her legs, and quickly plucked a few notes before settling into the correct mindset and smiling up at the girl; she closed her eyes and began to play.
A soft sweet music filled the air, with a sad undertone she had been incapable to be rid from her music lately, but it was all the same, better than it had been since she had been introduced to this place. Demi had this way to make her relaxed, almost to the point she could forget her woes, but not quite there…

Demi watched with interest as the older female produced her instrument and began to play, and her ears flicked forward to catch the soft and slightly sad notes. With her paw still to her chest, the kit listened for a while to get a feel for the sound before she began to sway slowly. "Nigiri shimeta te wo hodoita nara tabu~n kore de subete ga ima owatte shimau." She began to sing softly, her voice rising and falling to accent the melancholy melody of Alice's cello, "Shiritakatta koto kizutsuku koto sae mo nanihitotsu yarinokoshita mama de. Anata ga deau shiawase wo negaitai hazu na no ni/ dekinai mijuku na jibun ni fuite mo namida ga deru..." Lifting a hand to the sky, the bobtail looked up towards the clouds, her voice rising to the sky with the chorus of her chosen song, "Sayonara~! Aishiteru, anata wo dare yori sora yori mo fuka~ku. Nakanaide. Mata aou ne.. demo aenai koto watashi dake shitteiru no..."Demi was unsure why, but even though the older cat told her it needed no lyrics, she felt that these fit the melody that was floating about them. As the music continued, she fell silent save for a soft humming as she watched Alice play. After some time, the humming fell quiet too and Demi simply listened to her play for a time. "You really feel your music..." She ventured softly, "I can tell; good music is music that conveys honest, real feelings. It sounds like your heart is the one singing." Taking a seat on the grass before her, Demi propped her elbows up on her legs and rested her head in her hands with a contented smile. "Does this longing note have anything to do with that dance partner you mentioned earlier?"(If you're curious, these are the lyrics, translated too, to that song.)

Alice gave a small smile opening a eye to look at the small girl before her. “You know, now that I truly think about it… that’s a huge possibility. I’ve been wondering why my usual upbeat music had taken a flare for the dramatic. Ah well, you provided inspiration as well. Your voice is lovely.”
The female stood gracefully and replaced her cello where it sat previously, hiding in her makeshift home in the reeds. Facing away from Demi she placed a hand lightly over her heart and closed her eyes, feeling the soft puttering in her chest like a comfort. Lately it felt as though it wasn’t really there… but now she could feel it, puttering slightly off key. “Who knows, perhaps in another life I was a different person, and he was a different person… and there was no one named ‘princess’ and everything went right. Happily ever after you know? I just don’t believe this is that kind of story…” she let her voice trail off. No if anything she was prince charming… and all the girls had come to the ball to see her. Perhaps this was a fairy tale, a very twisted, girl saves guy fairy tale.

Demi beamed back at Alice as she complimented her voice, and watched as the older female stood and set down her instrument. Her head rolled a little in her hands as her eyes trailed after the flashy somali, and she perked her ears up to catch the softened voice. "So that's it, huh..." She mewed, her ears flicking at the word 'princess,' "Alice, you're feeling threatened by Belle, by what you saw with her and that Dhiren guy?" The bobtail kit grinned to herself and dropped her eyes to stare into the koi pond as she thought about how to explain her prissy friend. "If that's really what's making you upset, then I don't think you actually saw what happened then." Demi didn't mean to sound all-knowing, but it make her giggle inside that her mentor had completely missed the look of panic and unease on the tom's face before, "Belle is... well, she's very friendly, I suppose. She doesn't seem to understand personal boundaries or interactions very well. To me, it looked like she had caught that guy off-guard." Lifting deep gold eyes up to the female before her again, Demi's grin softened a bit and she stretched her arms out in front of her before getting to her own paws again. "I really think there might be a misunderstanding here; there's always some kind of misunderstanding when Princess is involved." Demi giggled light-heartedly and padded over to her mentor's side, wrapping her arms around the other in a warm, but somewhat awkward hug. Her ears swiveled back a little with uncertainty. Demi wasn't usually a huggy type of cat, but she still felt like a protected kit from earlier's incident and it sparked some kind of nurturing affection within her. She wanted to help Alice too.

Alice stared at the girl and stiffened, mildly in shock, but quickly relaxed. Her arms wrapped around her and petted her back lightly. “Dhiren… he is like that with everyone, even me. Perhaps it seemed more then it really was, but… it hurt. What hurts worse is that I’m never going to know the truth, because I do not wish to be that venerable to anyone. All I hope…” The older female buried her face in the girl’s hair to keep from crying. “All I hope is that he is happy.” Her voice was little more than a whisper at that point as she brushed away her hair, and with it the thought of this situation, this impossible situation that she had found herself in.
She pulled away and smiled, though false it was a pretty good replica. “Anyway… I should be going… I’m meeting someone later, a friend. Promise me if you see those toms again you will not try to be tough, that you will run?”

As sweet as the noble sentiment was, Demi was disappointed to hear her mentor giving up, but her tone seemed finalized, defeated almost. Letting her arms fall back to her sides as the Somali female pulled away from her, the little bobtail smiled brightly up at her. "Well, if you do run into that guy again, try not to assume so much, okay?" She giggled and nodded at Alice, "And I'll be sure to be careful if I ever meet up with those guys again!" She took a few steps away from Alice again, waving at her before turning and bounding off for wherever her paws would take her. Demi had no idea how crucial her dance instructor's advice would be to her in the coming days.
