His own ears flicked forward only casually at the sound, not registering it's importance at first. But when she perked up, her voice raising slightly and calling an unfamiliar name, Nguyen stiffened. 'Jiyuu?' Was this a family member? Maybe someone was finally coming to find this young filly and he could be on his way. Taking a tempered step back, he meant to slip into the foliage where he could remain unnoticed until that family member arrived to take her home. He hardly expected her to keep looking up at him with those eyes and he hardly expected the question.

"Come with-?" he repeated shortly, understanding then that she meant to look for her family member in the trees rather than waiting here for them. His ears slid back. If he disappeared now, would she still run off rather than wait? "Why don't you wait here?" he question, voice straining a bit. "It will be easier for..." he paused, remembering, "Jiyuu to find you if you stay in one place." He did not want to risk running into anyone.

Stay here? Chococo wasn't entirely sure how much she liked that idea. Wouldn't it be better just to go meet him and be sure that he could find her rather than wait while he possibly goes the wrong way? "But..." It seemed that the filly's worries were ill-founded however, for as she listened she could hear her brother getting closer. "Over here, Jii!" she called again, little wings quivering happily on her back. The filly looked back up at Nguyen happily, her eyes practically sparkling with their youthful innocence. "You meet brother Jiyuu. He's nice."

The stallion pursed his lips. It certainly wasn't her imagination. He could hear the other male getting closer and closer all the time, as well. Ears slid back harshly when she heard her call out to him again. This was what he had wanted, yes, but suddenly he felt ill-prepared. Would he be able to get away in time? Especially with the filly so eager to introduce him to her brother? "I don't... he muttered, pausing only to force his voice back up to an acceptable level again. "I don't know if it's a good idea for me to meet your Jiyuu." Time was running out. Ears flicked to the side towards the rustle of foliage. "I need to move on again." Hooves carried him backwards, slowly into a bush behind him. "You will be safe when he finds you."

Chococo watched the older male back away in confusion, not understanding why he wanted to hide. She didn't have much time to contemplate the matter however, for just then her older brother came into sight.

"Chococo!" the colorful male exclaimed in relief, quickly pulling her close and nuzzling her. "Sheesh, I'm so glad that I've found you. Everyone's been worried." He paused briefly, catching the scent of the other stallion close by. "Who were you talking to just now? I heard another voice."

"His name is Nguyen," she replied with a smile, happily snuggling against her older brother. "He keep me safe while lost. But now he hides?" The young filly was still confused on that matter.

"He did, did he?" he replied with a smile. Well, if the other stallion didn't want to show himself then that was his business. That didn't make Jiyuu any less grateful toward him however. "Thank you for watching over my sister," he called out in the direction of the scent. Giving Chococo a light nudge, he said. "Come on, let us get back home before dad has a heart attack."

The young filly nodded and trotted along, only briefly pausing to look back at the brush where her companion had disappeared. "Bye, Nguyen! See you again some day?" And with that the two slipped back into the forest.

At least he had been able to back far enough into the bush to avoid being seen when the brother made his appearance. He had been moving quickly, the older stallion thought, to have closed the gap in such a sudden manner. Nguyen found himself finally understanding how close this family was. At least, he decided, that was better for the filly. He didn't think the bonds of family were meant to last, but if she could have someone there to help her grow, maybe she would be strong enough to live alone, as all did, when the time came.

Bowing his head to nothing in particular, he turned to walk away, but stopped, ears sliding back as he caught the young girl's small voice. It was still strange to here his name coming from the mouth of another. There was a time he thought maybe he had already forgotten his own name the way his only son's had begun to fade from memory. His hooves remained planted, then, through the thank you and the farewell and the question. He found his mind saying maybe, despite what he knew.

"Goodbye, Chococo," he muttered under his breath once he was sure they were too far away to hear, then pushed his body again, on towards the mountains.
