a (heavy) photomanip based on this stock

if you check the original stock, i was mostly working on lighting. face seems lit by dappled light, while shoulder seems to say intense light. hair is a mystery to me but i tried. any suggestions or reference photos?
also suggestions about making the shoulder/back look less cg would be great smile

yes, lazy glow layers that look dramatic but require very little skill, haha. composition is a real problem for me. i was trying to copy someone else's general compositional style, not sure if i succeeded. how to improve this? in order to draw this successfully i had to make pencil/paper composition thumbnails first. i would have gotten stuck otherwise.

That is a gorgeous painting! Composition is not my strong point (was hoping someone better qualified could come around. Such a painting should not go unnoticed ...so I guess you're stuck with me for the time being xD ) Take everything I say with a grain/tablespoon of salt!

The first thing I noticed was her pose seemed very stiff which disrupts the flowy/weightlessness of the underwater setting. You could introduce some curves such as rotating her torso and tail to mirror the swirl of the whirlpool. And perhaps have the hair flowing with the motion of water too?

Both her face and the fish are beautifully detailed so my eyes were immediately draw to them. If these two points of interests were placed together and less steeply it will be easier for the eye to flow from one to the next.

Hope some of that made sense. Please, please don't hesitate to critique my critique.
