Miles smiled at his friends, before taking the offered piece of cheese. He gave Zemel a guilty look before taking a bite of it. "Hey, this is good." He said, nodding at Ginger. At least he wasn't blushing any longer, he was relieved.
"Oh.. About Matth. I thought if I spent more time with him, we could be friends or something... I don't think he likes me very much." The oracle frowned slightly. "He's dating my mom, so... I thought we should get along, so we don't fight and mess it up.."

Ginger grinned, hopping up onto the counter top and taking a seat. "Told ya it was." she said, grinning. She kicked her legs idly, finishing off her slice. She then waved her hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it, Miles; he treats EVERYONE like that at first. He has to get used to you, kinda like a dog from the pound or something like that."
Zemel was busy buttering one side of each slice of bread. "I'm sure he likes you just fine." he said, smiling lightly. "Sometimes, he just has an odd way of showing it. You'll see." Okay, so he wasn't completely sure what he was saying was true, but....how could someone dislike Miles? He was just so....likeable. He was friendly, he was smart; what wasn't there to like?

Miles didn't seem very reassured. "But... He really seems to dislike me." The oracle said with a slight frown. "It's not like he's shy.. He just doesn't seem to like me. Sometimes I think he's scared of me." He sighed, and took another bite of his slice of cheese.
He looked more hopeful when Zemel spoke. He gave a half smile. "Maybe you're right. He had a strange way of showing that he liked Mom--maybe he's doing the same to me. Maybe we just need to get to know each other better before we can really get along." He paused, and looked to see what his friend was doing. "Can I help?" He asked.

Ginger giggled. Uncle Matthias, scared? Like that would ever happen. "I'm sure he likes you." she said, grinning. "He's weird, though, and weird people have weird ways of showing they like you." That made sense in her logic, anyway.
Zemel smiled, nodding. "See? Just wait and see; I'm sure you'll be getting along together in no time at all." He then nodded. "Sure you can! Just butter one side of the bread; it prevents it from sticking to the skillet." He motioned to butter, then to a drawer. "Butter knives are in there."

Miles shook his head at Ginger. "I really don't think that's it." He said with a slight frown. "He's not all that weird--or my mom wouldn't have fallen for him. He's not exactly normal though.." He sighed, before taking out a butter knife from the drawer Zemel had pointed out. He took a piece of bread and started buttering one side.
"You really think he likes me?" He asked.

Ginger smiled, confident she had it right. "He's weird. But we love him anyway." she said, giggling. Her uncle, not weird? Yeah right. She took another slice of cheese, returning her brother's annoyed groan and eye roll with an innocent smile. "Before you say anything....I love you, brother dear." she said, using the sweetest tone she could muster.
"Yeah yeah..." Zemel muttered, sticking his tongue out at his sibling before returning his attention to Miles. "Of course he likes you!" he said, smiling. "How could he not? You're totally awesome." And, for a split second, he almost sounded like Ginger, except more normal.

"I don't think he's weird," Miles said with a slight frown, looking at Ginger. "I just..." He paused, and smiled at Zemel. "I hope you're right. Still... I hope he warms up to me soon. I'd hate to call him Dad and have him flinch everytime he sees me or whatever. I really... I just don't think he likes me very much, guys." Though being told he was totally awesome did manage to make him blush. Especially when it was said by Zemel.
"Thank you," he said, blushing. "You're totally awesome too."

Ginger just smiled. "Trust me, he is. He's always so....so formal. Ugh." This was accented by a roll of her eyes. "Honestly, he needs to lighten up a bit. And his habit of calling us all "little ones"? Creepy!" She giggled a bit. "But that's why we care about him. If he were normal, he wouldn't be half as interesting." She blinked, noticing the boy's cheeks reddening. Hm.
Zemel smiled. "Thanks." he said, now focused on his cooking once more. Grilled cheese sandwiches weren't that hard to make, but he wanted to make them absolutely perfect. It was like his own personal challenge; how evenly could he distribute the cheese and brown the bread? Could he achieve that perfect balance of goo and crunch? Well, he could try.
