Maru looked at Thali. 'Why's she frightened?' She wondered. Maru glanced to where Sammi and Reiya were looking. "Wuke," she gasped, standing up. The blonde man turned towards her. "Maru!" He said closing the distance between them and hugging her. "Wait," Luke said pulling away from the hug, "Did you just call me Wuke?" Maru blushed slightly. "Um. . . maybe." She said. Luke smiled. "You've been spending too much time with the kids." He said laughing. Maru smiled. "Maybe. . . " She said.
Maru frowned slightly. "Listen Luke there's something we need to talk about." She said, pulling him away from the slide. There was no reason to get Thali and the kids involved in her problems. Luke let himself be pulled over to a park bench and sat down. Maru stood in front of him.
"Look, I really wanted to tell you before but you were away on the mission and they said they couldn't get ahold of you and they said I could leave a message but I really didn't think this was the kind of thing to leave in a message so I-" "Maru, you're babbling. What did you want to tell me?" Maru sighed. "Okay. Luke, you see that little girl with the short dark brown hair over by Thali?" Luke nodded. "Luke, she's my daughter." Luke gasped. "What. . .? When?!" Luke asked. "I found out I was pregnant a few months after you left for that new pilot's job." Luke started to look mad. "I can't believe this!" He said angrily. "I can't believe you cheated on me!" Maru looked at Luke. "You don't understnad Luke! It wasn't like that! There were these two-" Luke cut her off. "I don't want to hear your excuses! Goodbye Maru." Luke angrily stomped away leaving Maru standing alone by the park bench, tears flowing freely down her face.

Thali had spotted the tears on her friend's face, and as elves are prone to doing, flew into a rage almost at once. She stormed off after Luke, after telling the girls to pause the game. "Luke!" She snapped, her faun brown eyes narrowing at the blonde man. She slapped him, without meaning to. "You never listen." She growled. "You're becoming just like Ben."
The angry elf took hold of Luke's wrist, as if to make sure he didn't leave in the middle of her lecture. "Listen to me, Luke." She said in a voice of forced calm. "Gaia isn't like where you're from. There's magic. Do you truly believe Maru would cheat on you? Last I checked, she was completely gaga over you." She paused and muttered something that sounded like 'Argh, men are so stupid...'.
"There are a set of twins, in Durem." Thali started, forcing herself to calm down. He was just a guy. Just a stupid guy. She couldn't expect him to understand. "A magical set of twins. They gave me Samantha and Reiya." She pointed to the toddlers. "Of course, had they known Maru had someone, meaning you, they would have taken your DNA and used it. They didn't know, Luke. That baby you saw--she's not more than a couple weeks old. The children made by these twins grow differently."

A million thoughts were going through Luke's mind. 'Maru would never cheat on me. But what if she did? What's all this odd stuff about magic? Magical twins? This sounds too strange to be real. But . . .Maru loves me. She wouldn't cheat. ARGH!'
Luke forced himself to push the questions to the back of his mind for the moment. "Look Thali," he said, "This is all a lot to take in and I don't know what to think yet. I just. . . I just need sometime to work everything out, okay?"

Thali shot the man a glare, and didn't let go of his wrist. She moved closer to him, so she was only about four inches away from his face. "You made Maru cry." She said, sounding as if she was trying to sound calm, but not quite managing it. "You dumped her. For no reason. You go apologize, and then I'll let you go work things out."

Luke nodded nervously. Thali could be very intimidating when she wanted to be. "I'll go talk to her." He said. He managed to get his wrist out of Thali's grasp and walked over to Maru who was still crying next to the park bench. He tapped her shoulder making her turn around. She looked up at him, still crying. "Maru, I'm sorry I made you cry." Luke said, gently taking her hand. "I just. . . I just need some time to think about everything, okay?" He asked. "This is a lot for a person to process at once." He said, smiling slightly. Maru nodded, smiling a little. "Yeah, it is a lot." This is what she loved about him, his smile was contagious. "I understand Luke." She said, wiping her tears away. "Just don't take too long figuring everything out." Luke nodded. "Talk to you later, Maru." He said before leaving the park.

Thali smirked slightly, pleased that she'd been able to scare the man. She watched as he left, and then went back to her friend's side. She gave Maru a quick hug. "You okay?" She asked.
Then the elf's attention was drawn to the three girls. Reiya was doing one of her favorite past-times--making fluffy white clouds appear out of thin air. Sammi was trying to explain to Natalie that 'Wuke' was a 'bery bad man.'

"I'm okay." Maru assured her friend. "Just a little emotional right now." Maru laughed as she listened to Sammi telling Natalie that Luke was a 'bad man.' She walked up to the girls. "He's not a bad man, he's just confused right now. When he gets everything worked out in his head he'll be much nicer." She said, defending Luke.

Sammi seemed to ignore the adults for a few seconds. "Wuke a bery bad man." She repeated, nodding as wisely as a toddler could. "Wuke make Nattie Mommy cry. Dat bad. Bery bad man. I buwn him." She offered, showing a tiny flame on the tip of her pointer finger. "I Buwn him, Mommy?"
Thali chuckled and shook her head. "No, no burning Luke." She said. "He's probably off to see Ben."

"Please don't burn him!" Maru added. "You think Ben'll help him work it out?"
~Away to Thali and Ben's house~
Luke rang the doorbell over and over again. 'Come on, come on!' Luke thought, 'you have to be home, Ben!'

Sammi frowned, she liked burning people. Especially when they were bad. Thali nodded at her friend, and gave her a reassuring smile.
"Ben'll know just what to say. He always does."
~*~*~*~
Ben opened the door in an instant, and stared at Luke for a moment. Then, he hugged his long time friend. "Hey, Luke." He said, pulling back. "I didn't know you were back in town."

"I've been okay." Ben said with a slight smile. "You know how it is, with four kids. The girls only grew a couple days ago--they're in their terrible two stage. It's strange to think that they're really only a couple months old." He paused, and looked to the man. "Are you alright? Shouldn't you be with Maru?"

Luke sighed. "That's the problem Ben. I saw her in the park and she told me she had a daughter and I thought she was cheating on me. Then Thali got mad and told me all this stuff about magic and twins and I . . I don't know what to believe."

Ben looked at his friend seriously. "I've never known Thali to lie." He said, before frowning. "Twins.. You mean Darcy and Aaron, don't you? Thali told me about them. Yeah.. They saved our babies. Thali had complications with the pregnancy and... well, without those two... Our babies would have died."
The man sighed, and looked to his feet. "I believe Maru. She loves you, Luke. She's not the kind of girl to go cheating on you."

Luke sighed in relief. "I'm glad!" He said. Then he frowned and groaned. "I'm such an idiot." He said angrily. "I should've never even thought she would such a thing. Now how am I going to make it up to her?"
