Dain gave a rather uncomfortable and out-of-character chuckle. "Not really, but I don't remember ever being able to sleep well, so, ah..." He tried to keep his eyes from trailing off down to the shadow again, with some difficulty. He wasn't quite so good at pretending, and his strained expression clearly showed.
The game seemed to bounce back and forth, and it was obvious to Dain that the other would not give in. He, on the other hand, was quickly losing his patience with it, and was itching to ask about the tame shadow fiends that he felt sitting all around.

Akihiko sighed before shrugging, his hand drifting away from the teapot and up to massage his temples with his fingers as if he was under stressful thinking. "What a coincidence..." he said in a carefree tone, still. "I always had trouble sleeping myself, as though I was some kind of a nocturnal creature in a past life." the tone of his voice, smile in his face and what he said didn't quite fit together. Deciding it was becoming boring, this whole scheme to try and hold up his mask while attempting to peer underneath the other's, he decided to get himself in advantage, by revealing he knew more. It didn't mean he'd share all his knowledge though, no. For all he knew this little game could as well as be a trap and he didn't want to find a blade thrust in his back anytime soon.
"Why I also have bothersome neighbors too..." he went on with a smile. "They just can't sit still at night, you know?" he smirked, removing his hand from his face again. He chuckled, noticing Dain was attempting to steal glances at the shadows. How childishly silly.
"Don't worry." he said calmly, tracing his lips with one elegant index finger. "They can't come out in the daytime..."

Dain gave a rather shocked, strangled noise at what Aki had said, resisting the urge to jump up on his chair to keep his feet out of the shadows under the table. It was all he could do to not scream. There really are things there!? Even though he had felt for certain that he knew, finding out that they really were there was a whole other barrel of fish. He struggled to sit still, the strained look on his face worsening.
"B-but at night...they watch you, don't they? F-from your bedside..." The fact that this could be his chance to learn what the things really were was passing over his head, blocked out by the fear.

Akihiko shrugged. "The bedside, windowsills, wardrobes... it doesn't really matter for them." he shrugged. "They just swarm there pathetically." he made a disgusted motion... he'd have dragged on but he noticed the other was in the middle of a crisis. He didn't want to give the guy a panic attack -obviously, nobody had told him anything face-to-face this far... but he couldn't have known.
Akihiko sighed, already up on his feet as he made his way to the counter. "Usami, take it from here, will you? The kid's a friend of mine I haven't seen in a while and I'm getting him out for a walk." lies, all of them, of course, but he had to. He had already pulled his apron off and was laying it on the counter. Usami knew that whatever hapenned was serious and whatever he'd say Aki would still leave.
"Whatever" the older male said. "It's minus one day on your paycheck." "Six hours." Akihiko corrected him, walking back to Dain. Pulling the boy up he hurried to the door, motionning for the other to follow.

Dain stumbled a little as he was jerked to his feet, eyes wide at the thought of his entire ROOM being infested with those formless, coal-colored little figures he only saw from the corner of his eye. The word swarming seemed to indicate that there were so many they stepped over and on one another, clamoring to get to him, but somehow unable to so far. Dain choked up, almost tripping over himself as he hurried to follow Aki.
I've gotta be dreaming...it's all a dream...I've only ever felt this bad in my dreams! This...emotionally shaken. Everything in the real world felt more like the detached fantasy of a dream, and everything in my dreams felt so much more REAL...
"H-how did you know all this?" He begged to know, now following Aki in the same pathetic pet-like fashion that the chill seemed to. Dain knew, from what he felt now and earlier, that this boy had some sort of control over the shadows, but...as before...guessing and knowing were entirely different things.

Akihiko walked down the street fast, his mind working his own thing. The fact the boy could sense that there were phasma there but didn't really know anything was troubling. Quite a bothersome nuisance, actually. Even so he was almost completely cut away from reality, lost in thinking when Dain spoke. At first he ignored the spoken words and simply kept on walking, but as the uneasy silence persisted he was about one hundred percent sure the boy would repeat his question thinking he didn't hear. And he was sure that he'd snap if that occured.
"I was told." he said sharply, turning to face Dain. "Other than that, I've seen them. As I told you, they happen to be rather bothersome neighbors." He tucked both hands in his pockets and cocked his head to one side. "Question is..." he trailled off. "How do you know?"

Dain waited and waited for a reply, and, just as he was about to open his mouth and repeat himself, the boy stopped short and turned to face him. He was a little shocked at Aki's sudden abrasive and snappy attitude, as earlier he'd seemed so cool and calm, even kind in his own little way. Were these things a secret...?
That's rediculous...it can't be that...that more people know about them? Just how many people know?? Is everyone walking around, pretending they can't see or feel them? The idea was startling, honestly, and Dain pushed it away, trying not to think too much about it again.
"I...I can feel them. E-ever since about a year ago now. Before that I just...I don't know, there was nothing." He admitted, avoiding Aki's eyes.

Akihiko sighed again. So very bothersome... troublesome... of all the people that roamed the city's streets that could feel the phasma he had to stumble upon the one that could both feel them but was entirely ignorant about them, almost as if they just... avoided him. Usually when one came to realization of their psyche all the more phasma swarmed around them, fighting to eat that precious glowing soul, and it was the same for him too... whether he was or wasn't bothered by their presence... but this boy... what was it about him that- ...he was beginning to feel all the more frustrated from failing to provide a good explanation about anything.
"Turns out it really isn't an act... your attitude..." he trailed off, shaking his head. Reaching his hand out to take hold of Dain's sleeve he turned around and marched on again, slightly tugging to make sure the other was behind him, as if suddenly fearing that They'd actually spring out of the nothingness in broad daylight and devour him. He didn't know why he felt that way either. It was an odd thing. He turned left in Meiji dori and kept walking, his destination being just around the corner in Omotesando.
"Guess I'll have to explain things better, turns out we both need information..." he mumbled under his breath, just loud enough for the other to hear.

Dain followed along obediently, feeling confused and a little miffed at being dragged around with little to no explanation. He could feel the growing tension with Aki, and it startled him a little how it actually upset him that the other boy was acting this way.
That settles it. This IS a dream. I wouldn't care, otherwise.
"My attitude? Wh-what?" He asked, genuinely confused. "A little more information would be nice, this is all really freaking me out," Dain admitted, barely catching what Aki had said.

Akihiko shook his head. He was treading on the brink of despair. He never, not once really had to explain anything of the other world to anyone. Those that managed to move in it without getting eaten where usually strong enough and smart enough to discover most things on their own. And then... there was this boy... that threatened Aki's mental health right now...
Omotesando was a shopping district, just like the most main streets that went through Shibuya. Of course the road had went from a major residential street as well to solely shopping nowadays, after the demolition of Aoyama Apartments* a few years ago. However Akihiko's house was also located in a similar danchi** that still towered its heavy frame but a street further. The small apartment in that seven-storey building was all he could afford. Thankfully he thought that it was neat to himself... some people couldn't even find an apartment at all when looking for it.
Akihiko's danchi counted twenty eight apartments, his being the first one from the left in the fourth floor. That's where he was taking Dain now. He'd pour some more coffee in advance and start from square zero. He didn't know why but he felt obliged to offer help to this strange boy. The thought of the 'obligation' occurred to him while he was walking up the apartment building's staircase -the elevator was out the last few months- and immediately sounded strange in his ears. However he decided to address it a bit later.
"You... really don't know anything about it... at all?" he asked for another time, like another Doubting Thomas, while turning his keys on the keyhole, the door opening without a single sound as he pushed it open.
*Aoyama Apartments: a major apartment block in Omotesando, demolished in 2003 in order for Omotesando Hills to be built there in its place **danchi: (団地) the word means 'group land', it is a kind of an apartment complex that rents small apartments for cheap. Danchi are a form of public housing estates, managed by the Japanese Urban Renaissance Agency.

Dain felt concerned that he was being bought into Aki's home, though he wasn't entirely sure what there was to be concerned about. He wasn't afraid of Aki, so much as he was very confused by him and his ever-changing personality, though the thought of being forcibly taken to his house at their very first meeting worried Dain greatly.
He barely took in his surroundings as he was hurried along, simply watching Aki for another mood swing, or more information at least.
"No, nothing...I don't watch the news, I don't understand japanese...and I really don't get out that much. Is...is it a widespread sort of thing?" Dain tried to explain, feeling odd saying it aloud. He'd never admitted anything like that before...

Akihiko simply sighed at the boy's response. He was sure that it would be that way, however having his thoughts confirmed was worse than just thinking about it. "It's... all over the world now..." he scowled, avoiding to look at Dain.
He flipped the switch for the lights on and walked inside. There was an almost deafening slilence lingering in the room. "Tadaima." he spoke, expecting a reply, but nobody replied. Aki arched a brow at the empty apartment. Usually Kira would have already jumped him, bitten on any body part defenselessly exposed and then reprimanded him about letting his guard down. But that didn't happen, not this time. "Gakkarida..." he chuckled under his breath. It seemed that the odd creature had left for somewhere, not expecting him to be home this early.
"Make yourself at home." he spoke, turning to Dain, making a motion towards the house's interior. "It's not much but..." he heaved a sigh of exasperation, the hell was he being so courteous for? "Sit." he finally concluded in a flat monotone as if he was talking to a dog of some sort.
tadaima: I'm home gakkarida: how disappointing...

Dain felt sick, suddenly. Like a brick had been dropped into his stomach at Aki's words. "A-all...all over...?" He could barely even bring himself to finish his sentence.
He gladly took up Aki's offer; his head was spinning now, and he soon found the room toppling sideways. He managed to flop down into the seat before he came crashing to the ground.
God...it's...it's everywhere...a-and I don't even know what I can do...
After sitting still for a few moments, his face cupped in his hands and his eyes closed, and catching his breath, Dain finally looked up again. He didn't understand japanese, but it was clear to him that Aki had expected someone else to be home. He vaguely hoped, through the fog of terror that had settled on his brain after Aki's simple statement, that they didn't get home while he was still there. The would be one heck of an explanation to have to give to some poor room mate.

Akihiko sighed for the plentymost time and dragged his feet to the kitchen to make some coffee and let his guest calm down for a bit. He didn't want to give the poor boy a heart-attack or something of the like... and from the looks of it that was what was going to happen sooner or later.
Leaving the water to boil he sat down on a chair and scowled to himself. Things were becoming strange, slowly, steadily but the were, that much was clear to him. He'd love to wait and see how it would all turn out in the end... of course he'd do all he could not to let it happen, but... he'd fail and he knew it, but he didn't mind, the same way he always didn't mind.
The small sound the boiler made when its switch was released snapped him out of his train of thought and he made haste into getting up and prepare a pair of cups of simple instant coffee, not really feeling like preparing anything even slightly more complex. Picking them both up, he made his way back to the living room where he left Dain and setting them down on the table he sat as well.
"Kiite..." he started. "I don't know how you are even still alive or what happens in your case specifically but general stuff I can help you with, so you can keep safe, though it seems you don't need that." he paused and frowned. "Just.. Just who are you anyway?" he asked, halfway in exasperation. It was just... he couldn't explain it either, but that feeling of being in dept, of being obliged to help wouldn't go away and it made him excessively uncomfortable.
Kiite: listen

Dain took the coffee gratefully, no longer able to feel awkward about intruding on the boy's house; to stunned to feel odd about it like before. Now all he wanted was to lay down, maybe close his eyes, count to ten a few times and see if he was dreaming. Certainly, up until now, he'd reacted to and felt everything in a very dream-like state, hadn't he? Yes, laying down might be a good idea...
Before he could curl up and flop onto his side, though, the sound of the boy talking brought his attention back.
Are they really that dangerous? That...that I shouldn't be alive, just from knowing about them?
The question, he found very difficult to answer, for some reason. "I...I.." He stuttered, looking helplessly at Aki. "I don't know..." He admitted. He didn't know who he was to be able to ward them off without even thinking about it. "I...I didn't think I was doing any particularly amazing. They just...sit back and watch; but I know they want to attack me, I can feel that. They just don't...like they're being held back."
Then he recalled, suddenly and with a little twinge of fear, the others he'd spoken to, with the shadows following and clinging to their backs and legs. Were they in danger? "There's more...some of them can't feel it, but the shadows are...are ON them."
