evilwaffle2 Shadow__Dweller I have an 80gb so I think it would work on mine. I'd love to see it happen, I hope it does! If it has 2 usb ports it wont work if it has 4 usb ports it will work. Why won't it work on them all?

I got my 80 gig model in December last year and it doesn't have an option to play PS2 games... not that it's a problem since I would love to be able to play my PS2 games on my PS3... and my PSX games too, even though I have very few. It'd be more convenient, I think.

Pretty stupid if you ask me :/ I can understand it, because the PS3 was and still is pretty expensive compared to other consoles..and considering there aren't that many PS3 exclusive games, Sony feared that people would opt for other consoles. But, there are loads of people that would love the PS3 to be backwards compatible...so they could have made PS3 models with it and without it..then people could choose..

That seems to make logic sense they should have done that instead of just getting rid of it completely . o wellz

evilwaffle2 Im thinking that it will be 80% chance of it happening and 20% that it wont. June 30, 2009 - In an effort to reduce PlayStation 3 production costs, Sony removed the console's Emotion Engine; the chipset which enables the system to play PlayStation 2 software. At first the company left the chipset in a few of its console SKUs, but has since discontinued all hardware variations with the capacity for backward compatibility. While certainly a smart business decision from a logistical standpoint, the move to remove the console's ability to play last generation titles left gamers with substantial PS2 game libraries out in the cold, but a recent patent filing by the company suggests that the feature could be making a comeback. According to a report by Siliconera, Sony recently filed a patent for a new cell-based emotion engine emulator, which could be capable of processing PS2 code through the PS3's existing processors. The processes were loosely outlined in the patent filing, but in essence, Sony is developing a way to translate and store Emotion Engine processing data within the PS3. In other words, this means that Sony could theoretically bring backwards compatibility to all current and previous PS3 units with a simple firmware update, regardless of hardware configuration. The filing makes no specific mention of the technology's intended purpose or when or if it will be implemented in a PS3 update, however, it seems pretty safe to assume that Sony will eventually bring it to console. After all, a firmware-enabled emulator is an extremely cost effective way to add an invaluable feature to the device without major hardware revisions. What do you guys thing you you like to see this happen??? my ps3 is already b/c so yeah...

After creating an imposter account to use the infinitely better PS Store (which annoyed me in itself) I noticed that you can download the emulation software there. As long as your PS3 isn't a 40. dang.

Sounds like a brilliant idea.. if sony actually do it ill be a very happy person. Seeing as i have a massive collection of games which is a pain in the arse to use on my smaller tv (looks crap on LCD without the proper cables which most games dont allow for) If it was through HDMI it would remove that problem. All i hope is that they develop a way for the ps2 games like timecrisis to use the new Guncon3 so i dont have to physically move the ps2 downstairs to use it on a CRT big enough to actually play on.
