Flann smiled. "Och, I dinnae think it's possible tae see all the mountains in a single lifetime, so I see what I can." She raised her eyebrows at the mention of the snow hare. "A snow hare? They dinnae often come out in sae open a place ere winter. Are ye sure?" Winter hares this early could indicate cold, bitter years, and Flann wanted to be entirely certain that she had the facts straight. No sense fashing oneself without cause, and if Flann had cause to fash herself, other Highland Soquili had cause to fash themselves, such was Flann's nature.

Quickly noticing Flann's concern, Ostara tried to reassure her. "Oh no, I wouldn't worry. He was still brown as the ground out there. It was actually quite difficult keeping up with the little scamp. But he did eventually elude me..."
She smiled and for a moment remained silent listening to the heavy rainfall. "So this is typical weather around here, huh?"

Flann relaxed. Brown snow hares meant nothing as yet, it was the white ones one had to worry about. She also listened to the heavy rainfall. She smiled at Ostara's question. "This is typical for autumn or winter, it doesnae rain often in summer. The summer rains are short and cool," Flann added with a smile. "There, it's lettin' up out there." The rain was, indeed, abating.

The mare's eyes turned automatically to the cave's entrance. It was indeed letting up. Ostara felt her heart drop just a bit at the thought she would be leaving soon. She truly enjoyed the light conversation about weather and silly antics, namely hers. She turned to Flann, "Well it probably would be best to wait for a day or two before trekking down the mountain, yes?"

Flann shrugged. "Och, weel, the roads will be a mite slippery until tomorrow afternoon, so I dinnae see why ye cannae stay an extra night or two, especially as ye've got nowhere else tae gae if ye left as soon as it was dry." She gazed soberly at the cave entrance. "And the trail can be extra treacherous even for those who are Highlanders like me." She turned with a soft smile to Ostara. "I dinnae mean tae worry ye, but I will let ye stay here, where it's a mite drier, warmer, and safer." The notion of Ostara leaving so soon invoked mixed feelings on Flann's part, because she could have some solitude again, but it would be lonely without the bright mare around.

{It's been an extremely chaotic month...}
"Oh ok," she instantly calmed at Flann's words. Though she did start to feel a bit intrusive. She turned back to her friend. "Have you been anywhere else besides the mountains? I plan on traveling everywhere, won't leave a single stone unturned." Ostara was still a bit damp from the rain, and she shivered just a bit. Warmer weather would be more than welcome with the usdia.

Flann shook her head. "No, I havenae left these mountains. I love them too much tae gae." She smiled. "So, where have ye been tae? Even though I dinnae leave ma mountains, I do love a guid story about the outside, and I'd wager ye have quite a few guid stories about the Lowlands." It was true, Flann absolutely loved stories as much as she loved her mountain home, and Ostara probably had at least a few good stories to share with Flann.

Ostara let out a soft laugh. "To be honest I've just started my adventure. Though I suppose the trek up here was quite eventful." She glanced outside at the wet world, so different than just a few days earlier.
"Well..." she started with her story, "I had been so enamored with the view that I hadn't been watching where I was going and... I sorta fell into a stream. I backed up into the water and soaked my rump." 'Stara glance back at the said backside remembering how cold and sore it was after that. "The water was like ice and my backside landed square on a hard rock. I swear I had that bruise for three days!"
The rosy mare continued, "I've decided to travel the land and explore as much as possible. I'm headed for the plains next."

Flann laughed out heartily. "Ach, there are some bruises like that, that dinnae gae away for some time. Why, last winter, I slipped in some black ice and had that bruise on ma rump for a week!" She took a deep breath after the laughter finally settled down. "So, ye're headed back tae the Lowlands. Any idea where ye'll gae after that?" Ostara's journey definitely sounded like the sort of tale that would become more savory as time went on and become a nice tale to tell on a long, cold winter's night when all was said and done.

Ostara joined Flann's laughter with her own hearty laugh. It was quite funny remembering, not so much at the time it had occurred though. "Well let's see...I've heard about the riches of the forest. So much flora and fauna to see!" She said excitedly. She stopped to think some more of where her journey was to lead her. "I've heard of two-leggers living out east...I might just pass through though. "
It was funny, she still had no idea where her journey would lead her. Her adventure was a blank book, and so far just a few pages had been filled - with her and Flann's meeting. "Once I get to where I'm going, I'll be sure to come back an visit. Then maybe I'll have a much better tale to tell." It sounded like a promise.

"The forests? That sounds like it'll be quite the interesting journey after the Highlands." Flann liked the forests the most after her beloved mountains. Glancing outside, she could see that the storm had let up. "The storm's let up." She stretched her legs and wandered over to the cave mouth. "It'll tak' the rest o' the day tae get tae the forests, and the storm is gane. D'ye feel ready tae move on?" she asked gently.

A bit of wanderlust rolled through Ostara. She finally felt ready to move on. "Yes, I think it's a good time to get going now."
Only a piece of her mourned not getting to explore more of the mountains. But she did make a promise to come back, and she was certain she would keep it. The rosy mare headed towards the cave's entrance but stopped to turn towards Flann. "I might need a little help getting out of here, at least until the foothills." She quickly added.

Flann nodded. "It's easy tae get lost around here, and I kin show ye the way oot," she said. It was true, though the mare's antisocial nature was starting to kick in again. Still, it was nice to have met Ostara and to have made a friend of sorts. Tossing her head briefly, she led the way out of the cavern and into the growing afternoon sunshine, Ostara behind her.
