For a split second he looked a little disappointed - he thought that hose who lived near the sea might have a clue. "We rarely fish, I just wondered since you were so close to the sea if you maybe knew a way..." his grin came back, remembering his own attempts. "I didn't have much luck when I tried - like you say, they have far too much water to escape into!". He'd tried to catch a small flounder which had been peacefully minding its own business in the shallows - it had swiftly shot away, burying itself in deeper sand out of his reach.

He had barely noticed her slip of tone, of mood, about the time before Outriders - he didn't have the malice in him to prod - especially since she'd already mentioned that she'd not started life with her current pack. Things changed, life brought unexpected events and wolves moved - Ouranos had done it, so he couldn't really fault anyone for it.

"I like fish though" he mused, thinking about the big fat salmon he'd once tried - full of sparkling, pink, salty eggs. He licked his lips at the thought, hungry, though he'd not that long eaten.

When they soft ocean scent became a light but insistent breeze, Ouranos turned his head towards it, closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The ocean 'tasted' sparkly to him - tangy and bright and fresh. Opening them, he grinned at Cala and then took off towards the sea in a huge, bounding gallop - fur streaming in the wind, tongue hanging out.

"Ah--" Calandra stared as Oura suddenly bounded off towards the ocean. She smiled at his exuberance and broke into a gentle, loping run herself to catch up. As soon as her feet hit the hot sand and sank in she slowed a bit, finally turning her strides into a trot for the water's edge. It had gotten hotter during her brief foray into the woods, and even with her summer coat it was looking like a swim would be the best course of action.

His exuberant, puppyish qualities reminded her of the sharp contrast with Possum's personality. Although Possum had been only a yearling or so when she had met him, he certainly hadn't been as outgoing or curious as Oura. He was quiet, like Cali, with his own subtle way of behaving like the pup he was. More like an adult than a child. Calandra could see him becoming a Beta, if he were to ever move into a pack. Ouranos, on the other hand, was all Gamma, and Calandra had to grin at his antics. It was nice to meet another wolf willing to ignore convention and just be himself, have a good time.

Part of Calandra was starting to wonder if there was a reason such open, young or young-acting males were being brought into her life.

For just a minute, Calandra abandoned the notion of being her usual reserved self and broke into a full-out run, sprinting into the ocean just as the surf was coming up to meet her and causing a huge wall of water to break up around her. She went a little deeper, stopping just short of being unable to walk, and whipped around to face Oura, her tail wagging as she laughed.

Oura's body hit the water with a large splash, his belly fur soaked in seconds, and sparkling droplets rolling across his back as they cascaded down. He loved water, adored it, and his eyes glimmered - it was the most alive he'd felt in a long time. Why hadn't he done this sooner?

The water felt good, cool, it surrounded him and enveloped him - he felt safe with water. The salty water scoured his skin, ran through his fur and he knew that grooming himself would be a nightmare unless he dunked himself in a river later, but it didn't matter: it was a small price to pay for enjoyment.

His moments introspection was broken by the female wading in further than himself - he returned the friendly tail wag with a grin but seemed to also succeed in throwing a soft spray of water into the air. "Oops" he grinned, enjoying the water too much to feel bad about a little more.

Oura took a moment to look out into the sea - there was nothing he could see but sea from here. "Every time I come I wonder if the sea goes on forever like this" he said, softly. It seemed out of tune with his playful mood only moments before but Ouranos had been like this, switching back and forth between puppyishness and seriousness, since his pups had been born - as though he was slowly becoming older, more responsible and, at the same time, holding on to that splash of innocence which made him who he was.

With Ouranos's abrupt change of pace, Calandra looked out to sea as well, watching the water gradually become a vague blue line meeting the sky. "Maybe, but everything has to end somewhere."

She let the moment fall into silence as she contemplated that, her own puppyish moment lost in the tranquil musings the sea brought on. A soft breeze caught some of her fur that wasn't doused in salt water and then it turned into a stronger blow of warmth. She shivered slightly as the water on her back cooled. It broke her from her thoughts and she walked out into deeper water, turning and swimming back before she began swimming in a circle around Ouranos.

"Don't lose the day," she suggested with a gentle smile. "There's plenty of time for deep thoughts when we're finding a way to get our coats clean."

A bit of water got in her mouth and Calandra made a face, stopping to tread water in one spot as she worked the taste off of her tongue. Ick. That would teach her to speak when her head was that close to the surface of the water.

"When will your Alpha expect you back?"

"Mmm yes" the thought resonated with him for a moment, his eyes scanning the horizon again as if searching. He was cled back by the females next words, though.

His grin came back quickly. "You're right, it's too good a day for that kind of thinking!" his eyes followed her around in circles, and he began to feel pleasantly dizzy. After a few moments, he began to paddle after her, as if in chase - it just seemed the natural thing to do and he was allowing his mind to wallow back into a happier, younger place, but almost bumping into her as she stopped.

"It does taste foul, doesn't it? Like too many fish" he wondered why river and sea water tasted so different, but i was beyond his ken - some things just were.

"Expect me back? Hmm.." he paused, wondering about that. He wasn't a pup, true, and didn't have any set time he must be around but... "I guess probably around sunset - it's when I usually go to the den when I've been out". If there d been something organised - a hunt for instance - he'd have had to be back for that but the pack was prolific and not everyone was needed for every hunt.

Calandra looked up towards the sun, squinting although she avoided looking directly at it. They had hours yet.

To avoid really dunking her head in the water, Cali swam closer to the shore until she could stand. She watched Ouranos for a moment, then abruptly turned her back on him and playfully kicked water in his direction, causing a fairly large spray his way. "I'll have to report in soon, but there's no reason we can't have fun until then."

Truthfully, Calandra got the feeling that time would pass by quickly while she was having fun with Oura, and it was something she needed badly. A good time. Just... to relax and spend time with someone outside her pack.

She carefully splashed his way again, not as overexuberant as her first kick, then let her tongue loll out briefly in a laugh as she looked over her shoulder at him. It vanished back into her mouth as protection against ocean-spray, and she took great, galloping strides towards shallower water. The water worked against her, but as it became less deep it eased its hold on her more and she took off at a loping run through the shallows to playfully avoid being splashed back, seawater kicking up in her wake.

Ouranos grinned as he gave chase to the shallows, sprinkled with the water she had sprayed over him. It as fun to be out, to be shedding his anxieties, to feel young again!

After a little while he slowed, stretched and padded onto the beach, shaking himself, his tail swishing freely now that the water was not tugging on it. It was getting a little cool and he decided it might be an idea to dry off for now - at least until some of the warmth had crept back into his body

"It's getting a bit cold" he called, by way of explanation, making his way up into the beach until he found a dry sun-warmed patch of sand and plopped himself down.

((It's alright, don't worry about it. Lol I wasn't sure where to take this, so jumping time works for me. smile ))

Calandra nodded to show she had heard him, but remained in the water a little longer, sitting in the shallows up to her neck. As a warm breeze blew by it turned cold as it penetrated her wet fur and sent her into shivers. It was always such an odd contrast: being warm under the water and cold above it.

She decided it was probably time to follow Oura's example and walked onto the beach as well, sand sticking to her paws and rubbing between her toes. She shook all over to disperse the water from her, an odd wriggle that moved from her head to her tail, and added a few extra swishes of her tail for good measure before she walked over and found a place beside Oura to dry off. The sand would flake off later, or would rinse off once they cleaned the ocean water from their fur.

Despite the breezy day now being less pleasant and more chilling, Calandra enjoyed the moments where the breeze died out and the sun warmed her coat. She wanted to take a nap there on the sand, but she knew there were things to be done, and even though it wasn't quite evening yet, Oura did have a distance to travel to get back to his pack.

"We'll have to find a stream to rinse off in soon," she remarked after some time had passed. "Or it's going to be uncomfortable to move with the ocean's water hardening in our fur."

Oura seemed to agree with her assessment of the situation, but they laid out in the sun for a while longer before Calandra stood up, her fur cracking slightly. Ah well, it would wash out. She smiled and waved her tail a few times, feeling the stiffness of ocean water there as well.

"I know a close stream we can clean off in before you head back to your pack." She started up the hill as Ouranos rose to his feet. "Just follow me, and we should be able to get clean before we need to get back to our packs."

She took a few running steps up the slope and turned to check once if Oura was following, then moved off at a fairly brisk walk. This was starting to itch, and she wanted to get clean!
