Drake idly readjusted his jabot before brushing his tousled forelock from his face, carefully avoiding touching the scratch on the side of his cheek. He listened to the male, still unconvinced. "So... you're like the fuzz?" He wasn't sure he could trust someone wearing a disguise, much less with a jug on their head. These Power Raiders... or whatever it was that they called themselves. If they were supposed to be so good, fighting evil and all that jazz, then why did they need to hide their faces? He didn't have much belief in the "super hero" types, as they so labeled themselves. No one ever came around to correct all the mayhem going on in the Oasis before. How would they be able to help now?
"Hell," he retorted to the blue-suited fellow. "That's 'cause none of us are dead yet!"

Drake looked at Jack oddly as the older otter burst into laughter with a wild look in his eyes. Despite the off nature of the captain, the young admiral took his words to truth. He had, after-all, been personally involved in this field of expertise out in the Caribbean seas, unlike Drake who had lived here in the Canadian reserve all his life. He couldn't help but snort in agreement at Jack's reference to "questionable strangers". It was true. You couldn't trust any suspicious personnel here these days... predator and otter alike.

The young pirate looked around to survey the situation. Two pirates, one gypsy, two of those Powder Rangers, a lost pup, and a half-drowned femme, all standing on a river bank riddled with gold trinkets. How this was going to end was beyond him. He glanced back over at the former water-logged queen to find the French fellow seeming to be fine with pulling her back into consciousness. "'M not sure this tribal lass has the foggiest idea o' where she is..." With another thought forming wih his highly imaginative mind, he leaned over to Jack. "You've 'ad experience with cannibals, right? Would ye say she migh' be one?"

He opened his mouth to argue with both the pirates but found himself just shaking his head in slight bemusement at their superstitions. He found himself focusing more on the fuzzy idea wriggling around in his mind but pushed it away for a moment. Arguing wasn't going to do any good, not where superstitions were concerned. And he couldn't make them believe or trust him. Just like he couldn't reveal his identity, he'd agreed to that after being chosen and he would follow that order until it became obsolete or threatened harm. For now they would just have to hope the others could learn to trust them. "Kim, we can't reveal ourselves without putting ourselves in danger. I don't know if can do anything here, not without their trust, and they don't seem even willing to try giving us a chance," he whispered into his helmet's microphone so only she could hear. With the words out of his mind, a memory tempted his attention away from the goings on.

Kimberly remained quiet, falling into her gymnastics training to release her growing frustration, so as not to bobble. It wouldn't help to get angry-er. She was thinking it was probably some of her fault they didn't trust them but the day had been riddled with frustrations that made her snappy and pushy, much the opposite of her usual perky, happy to a fault, charm. "Zordon wouldn't want us to give up, Billy. And we won't. We just have to watch and hope they realize we're the good guys," she replied to Billy. She watched Clopin with a furrowed brow, he was being gentle, and maybe he could be trusted. She hoped so at least. And he was helping, unlike the pirates who were busy turning the poor girl into a banshee or a cannibal or a bad-luck charm because she was female.

She turned her head to Sora, "I could help you look for your mother, but I understand if you don't want me to." It was the best she could do, anything else could easily make the others see them in an even less favorable light. She might have known they were the good guys but they didn't. She just had to remember that. But as concerned as she was about the pup being alone her attention turned back to the female being helped by the gypsy. "She could have a concussion," she volunteered just loud enough to be heard but she was interrupted by Billy who had finally figured out what his mind was trying to get him to remember.

A text written in K'iche' by the Mayans resounded in his head. "She thinks she's dead," he said it slowly before volunteering anymore information. "She thinks she's in the Underworld and that you're one of the Lords of Death." It was only to himself that he dared to realize he might have been right to think of sacrifice. It was apart of the Mayan culture.

Clopin's paw curled around the female's as he carefully helped her up as best he could, remembering to focus both on helping her, remaining standing in the water, and keeping an eye on the strange "Power Rangers". The blue-clad male seemed... highly well-educated and willing to council rather than physically aid. The former king had never really liked educated people. Where he came from, the educated looked down upon his kind for their lack.

"Oui, I gathered that," he replied in that same sarcastic tone before studying the female as he slipped his shoulders beneath her paw so that he could help support her as they walked from the water.
"I'm not one of your Lords of Death, mademoiselle, and you are most certainly not dead," he spoke softly to her with a small nod.

A ripple of displeasure worked its way through Jack's fur.

"Aye, lad, I've," he responded, the bridge of his nose wrinkling. He stood and wandered down the bank, pensive in his silence. The edges of the river lapped against the reeds and stole across the shore, licking the silt free from the coins that had buried themselves in the dirt. Jack edged a claw beneath one, peeling the unwilling disk away from the ground. He rubbed a paw pad across its face to wipe away the dirt, then he clenched it in his paw.

"But I don' thin' she's one. There were th', ah, Caribs in the Caribbean, but she doesn' look li'one," he continued, holding the coin into the air, where it caught the evening sun. He muttered several words under his breath and turned back to them.

"There's a diff'rence between th'... what's it, Arawaks n' Caribs n' Mayans n' Aztecs," he explained with a twirl of his paw. "She's no' Aztec, no' if she's askin' for, n' I reckon she's no' from th'Caribbean either -- oh, loo', s'Chaac. Anyway, wha' the blue one said s'probably righ'."

But a Malinche....

After being thrown around for so long, having something tangible, solid beneath her paws was a luxury. She held onto Clopin as though he were some sort of anchor for whatever world this was; she took advantage of what little comfort she could gather from his presence, ducking her head down to peer cautiously out at the others.

Sora's concern arrested her attention, her eyes flicking to the small pup and widening in surprise. A child in the Underworld? But--

"Yes, I-- I think so," she said, an uncertain smile taking to her lips. It was instinctual, trying to assuage the pup's concern despite her own confusion.

She thinks she's dead. She thinks she's in the Underworld and that you're one of the Lords of Death.

I'm not one of your Lords of Death, mademoiselle, and you are most certainly not dead.

She thinks.. most certainly not dead. When she lifted her gaze again, there was frozen surprise in her eyes as though, yes, once more, once more, an encore. It almost felt like a bird had swooped low in her stomach, bringing all the warmth of the world with it. For a startling moment, Chel forgot to breathe.

"Alive?" she parroted dumbly. "How-- I can't-- This isn't--"

Her words hiccuped along and she stared towards the bank as they neared, focusing hard on the faces dotting the shore. She settled on Drake for a time -- more importantly, the scratch on his cheek -- and suddenly her entire face lit up, brighter than the coin in Jack's paw.

"The gods don't bleed," she breathed, as though sharing a secret with Clopin and Sora. Chel could have danced; her joy was dizzying. "They don't bleed!"

The golden totem on the shore winked, catching her eye. A sudden laugh burst from her, unbidden.

"Praise Nohochacyum! I'm alive!" she shrieked, practically strangling Clopin in her delight and new found strength.

Jack's ears swiveled, eyes narrowing.

Distracted momentarily from Chel, Sora looked back at Kimberly. Sora felt conflicted. On one hand, he really had no idea where his momma ws, but, this lady was weird looking. Her outfit was really bright color that hurt his eyes and he didn't even know what she looked like. He shifted his weight from one paw to the other, thinking. "Well... Could you help? But you have to promise not to hurt momma once we find her!" He bristled, showing his teeth and trying his hardest to look intimidating. Sadly for him, he was too cute for that to work.

Backing up from Kimberly, immediately regretting his decision, Sora slipped on a coin in the water, tumbling down and landing next to Chel. He giggled slightly, before looking back to Chel. "That's good, lady." For some reason, despite being frightened by everyone else, he felt no fear of Chel. Maybe it was because he saw her at her most vulnerable, and he realized she was no true threat.

Sora was surprised by her sudden outburst. He cocked his head a little. "Well of course they don't bleed, silly" He stuck his tongue out and let it loll from his mouth a few seconds before pulling it back in. A testament to the fact that he was, indeed, a silly little pup and had no understanding of the importance of those words. At her sudden display of activity, Sora jumped around her, his eyes shining. "Does lady feel better now?" He sat in front of her again, his tail moving slowly back and forth.
