Thoughts on Lesson One

So the lessons were not as hard as I expected them to be. At least this lesson. I was in a group with Kirana and L'mur and J'rair. It is easy to see that it is not easy at all to be a dragonrider. Especially if the rider makes the dragon and the other way around as well.

Datiath is one determined little fellow. He really made my brain hurt when I had to control him at lessons. But I did it! And looking at the other bronzes around the weyr it makes me wonder how much control I will have when he is older and bigger... I wonder if he will be bigger than any of the other bronzes.

Kirana looked like she was going to be sick so I tried to help her out some. Though Farin says that we must learn to do our own work. I think she is kinda cute...even though she is older than me. But that is way...way off... I mean... I'm not even fifteen turns yet!

Speaking of age and turns, I must remember to get a runner to go to my father's hold and let them know I impressed. Though they probably already know...it would be good if I sent them word. I wonder if I can get Kirana to let me borrow her flit?

More later I suppose.

The Turn Over

Ugg!

Whoever said Turn Overs were fun obviously did not work in the kitchens. I was assigned to work the spits and keep an eye on the breads while Datiath got to lounge around with his clutchmates. Not that he could have helped, he probably would have just tried to eat everything is sight.

There were so many people coming and going, it was hard to tell who was part of the weyr and who wasn't. I know that most of the others were either serving or on cleaning duty. Come to think of it, perhaps the kitchens were not so bad after all. I wish I could have seen some of the color and excitement. But there will be more gathers and more turnovers to see and visit. Especially once Datiath is able to fly. I might even go to a Northern Event!

I forgot to write all about this! This is what happened the morning after the mating flight...when I went down to the weyrbowl to bath Datiath!

The Day After

That girl played really pretty music. I wish Remia had talked to me just a little bith. But Trith did seem very hungry.

Thoughts on Lesson Two

It was very cloudy when we went out for our lessons. At first, we did laps and exercised ourselves. I can understand that... We must be in shape for our dragons and ourselves. And then we practiced sending pictures back and forth. Datiath and I had to work really hard to send the different colors to each other and then actual stuff. But he is very big and clever, we managed that part just fine. At least I think so.

The last part before the rain fell was practising our knots. We just did the Weyr colors, silver and blue. It will be nice when I can put my dragon's color in my knot and let everyone know I am a BRONZE RIDER! My knot did not look to bad. *snicker* I spoke to several other riders that I normally don't talk to...and Remia talked to me some. I think she is really pretty... But I think she might like R'ael.

Datiath made friends with Trith and some of his other clutchmates. They wanted it to rain and eventually it did. But before that, R'ael and his brother G'dor had a really bad fight. They yelled mean things to each other. No one knew what to say... But we all have to get along. Perhaps I should speak to one of them?

Cake, Klah and One Big Mess:
An Arpee by Naree and EvilSilverDragon

Naree

N'tren was happy for the seventh day break that they got from their classes. He still had to feed, oil, excerise and devote himself to his dragon but it was so much easier now that Datiath seemed to anticipate his moves. Unlike other werylings, he did not dress in his best leathers for the rest day; instead he would get into his kitchen garments and go down to work with Cidrey and the others.

They had a new head cook. A funny man who spoke more to his food than to the others around him. When N'tren walked into the caverns, he merely got grunted at and was pointed in the direction of a rather large mixing bowl.

Confused, another kitchen worker whispered to the bronze rider, "Cake."

"Gotcha. Any particular type or just something of my own?"

"Spice. Now work."

Sighing, the teen moved over to the bowl. Already there was flour and other neccessary ingredients; all that was needed were the spices. Looking over, he noticed the klah bark to his left. Klah had a strong, spicy flavor to it...why not?

Are you testing again, love? Datiath broke through using their bond.

Not testing. I am sure it will work, I think others have made klah cake before. And do not distract me too much or I may mix the wrong stuff.

Like sugar and salt? There was a mental chuckle.

That was not entirely my fault! If you hadn't squealed and took my attention away... N'tren frowned. Those tarts were terrible.

Well. My friends are out here with me and I am fed. I will call you if I itch or need you.

"Take care, Dat." And with that, N'tren concentrated on grinding the klah baark down.

EvilSilverDragon

Gem found the kitchens before Dem'or and way before Caleten. Making a wide circle around the room, she flew out to report back to Caleten. Reaching her friend, she settles onto her perch of Caleten's shoulders. She found the wool of Caleten's deep green long and simple dress to be much to her liking. To her, her friend thought of everything.

Caleten's hazel eyes looked to Gem and a slender hand reached up to scratch the gold flit's eye ridge, in doing so, her long sleeve fell to her elbow. That problem was fixed as she lowered her and once more and headed to the direction Gem had come from. Her sleeve fell to nearly covering her hand, where it belonged in her mind. Hopefully she could procure food, then be off.

Dem'or happily trotted at Caleten's side towards the place of great smelling scents.

Naree
N'tren looked up as another entered the kitchen. Giving a friendly smile, he didn't notice as he knocked his whole bowl of klah grindings into the batter. "Hello there? Can I help you with something?"

PostPosted: Sun Apr 02, 2006 6:38 pm

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten did not miss the klah grindings falling into the batter. Her hazel eyes moved from that to around the kitchen, not really paying attention to the guy who spoke to her. She had not intended to respond had Gem not chirped her hunger. Looking to her flit, with the only kind look she had shared before her features went back to a clam pride. 'Only meat for my hungry friends.' She certainly wanted nothing of anything he made, careless male as he seemed to be.

Dem'or was much more friendly, barking a greating and wagging his tail.

Naree
N'tren frowned at the air she gave as she spoke outloud. It was like some of the girls from larger holdings than his father's own; he continued to mix the batter and hoped that his cakes would turn out nice for his friends in the weyr.

Perhaps, she did not realize he was a dragon rider. Not that he would pull rank or anything, after all, they hadn't even had their first flying lesson. However, the girl was polite...if not a little cold.

"That's fine. There are some roasts on the spit and bones are kept in the pot by the hearth. Help yourself. I need to finish this batter and then toss it in for the cooking."

He gave her a warm grin hoping she would loosen up some.

EvilSilverDragon
Expecting Caleten to loosen up was like expecting heardbeast to take flight. She glanced at him, having expected him to cater to her. The next moment, she walked to the area's indicated not even looking back to the guy she was talking to. Serving her flit, she turned so that her back was mainly to the guy, she felt free to smiled and pet her flit when she felt that no one could se her being so soft and warm.

Grabbing a bone, she handed it to Dem'or while she finished feeding Gem the last scraps.

Full, Gem nuzzled Caleten's cheek with her head before she took flight again. Shortly after she was in the air, she winked into between coming out right out side the kitchen to find somewhere to sun herself.

With Dem'or eating happily, Caleten decided to stay in the kitchen. This time she got a drudge to get her the klah she wanted. Glancing around the kitchen, she did not give any one person more the a moments glance at a time as she slowly observed the room she was in.

Naree
N'tren's eyes followed the gold flit around the kitchen before she blinked between. She was a beauty and very much aware of herself. Pouring the cake batter into metal pans, he set them into the hearth and then sat down at the table to relax.

"You have a beauty of a queen there and a handsome fellow of a canine. I had a canine when I came here but other duties led me to give him up for tunnel snake duty. I still go and see him when I can and give him treats."

He was grasping at straws to make conversation. Ordinary conversation with a person who didn't recognize who he was... The weyrbrats were okay for talking and the crafters had a slight reverence for him; this girl in front of him seemed almost normal.

EvilSilverDragon
'Someone not getting offended and leaving her alone or starting a fight, thats unusual' Thought Caleten as she glanced at the male speaking. She still did not look much at him, but she did respond, "The Queen's name is Gem and his name is." As she spoke of the canine, she had her hand on his head, giving him a small stroke, "Dem'or."

Since this was such an unusual occurrence, she added to it slightly, "Gem I found in hands she did not need to be in as an egg, and Dem'or was found right out side. Both are more reliable then almost everything on Pern." With her opinion stated, she listened with half interest to see how he would responded. Males as a whole were a bother and pests, but there were a very, very small few that were not as bad.

Unlike his master, Dem'or barked with his name said and wagged his tail fully happy and friendly.

Naree
"You are lucky, then, to have two such reliable and noble creatures. According to most, only one creature on Pern is more reliable.... That would be the dragons who fly our skies."

Reaching his hand out to the canine, N'tren waited for the dog to sniff and accept him. "Dem'or, huh? My fellow's name was Scruff and that is exactly what he looked like, a scruff of fur."

The spicy smell of klah was now begining to fill the lower caverns. Nodding at the girl, he walked over to the hearth and checked to see how far the cakes had risen. They looked okay, if not a little bit dark in color.

EvilSIlverDragon
Caleten had an easy response to the dragon comment, "I have lived holdless for most of my life, Dragons were never something I thought of, so that I cannot judge." Caleten nearly smirked, such a brazen responce in a weyr, she was interested to see how he responded.

Dem'or was very accepting, even bumping his head against his hand for a scratch. The smell of the cake cased him to tilt his head to the side and move a bit close to the oven to investigate.

Klah cake was such a bizarre idea to Caleten. It was nothing she had ever encountered on her travels, but she chalked it up to being a Weyr thing that she did not want a part of.

Naree
"Each lives the life he or she is born into... I was born to a holder family and dragons were very much a part of our lives. And now that I am at the weyr, it is even moreso."

He bit his tongue sharply so as not to scold one older than him. His ire must have gotten through to Datiath because the dragon came rushing into his thoughts.

Why do you play games with this one? Tell her who you are and be done with it.

Because, I want her to treat me like Nestren and not N'tren the dragonrider.

You are a dragon rider. My rider. I think she needs manners. Dragons will always fly when Thread is in the sky. Datiath sniffed in his mind and went back to his friends.

Turning a laugh into a cough and scratching his nose, N'tren started to rub the canine's fuzzy head. The cakes were smelling quite delicious in his own opinion and he sat down to wait for them to finish baking. Spring green eyes taking in the whole of her, he asked her curiously, "What has brought you to the Weyr between falls? Are you a crafter even though you are holdless?"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten leaned against a wall to get herself more comfortable before she answered, "I am holdless by choice, I left home to wander." She looked around the kitchen a moment before speaking, "I would not be here at all, Thread or not, had I not been plucked from the ground by a an aragent male dragon rider and plopped here for my own 'protection' as he said to justify the kidnapping. I am back because I need to gather a few things." She sniffed lightly in distaste at the memory. That rider did not save her live, he endangered her by that monver and took her completely off corse. She convently forgot that she was burned at that time and in great trouble.

"With fire that is easy to create with the right things, and a sense of where to be, I am not troubled by Thread nor do I fear it. I'd imagine that Dragon riders do, for when there is no more thread falling, there is little to entice holder to send food. No food, starving dragon come about." Caleten was highly amused by this, she was testing which buttons would get reactions. She had no reason to believe this guy was a dragon rider, but she did have plenty of reason to believe that he wanted to be, which was close enough.

Dem'or had no idea what was being said, or the way that the sounds affected the people. All he knew was he was getting scratches and that was good enough for him. His tail wagged happily and he liked the hand that was petting him in gratitude.

Naree
At her comments, N'tren did laugh outloud. Long and hard before bringing himself under control. He stared at her with amusment. It seemed she had had a bad run in with a rider; though some of the older riders were very arrogant, the younger riders tried to keep themselves humble.

"Do you think that because the tithes stop we will starve? That is very close-minded of you. Does a dragon not have teeth and claws? Are they not predators? I think they can feed themselves."

Not paying any mind to the cakes now, the youth worked on Dem'or's chin, finding the hollow of the throat that all dogs seemed to enjoy getting itched. It took quite a bit for him to get aroused in anger or really any negative emotion. He wondered how bad the incedent had been to make her so bitter. "And before dragon riders, there were farmers and herders. With our dragons to help us clear the land, it would take no time at all to grow crops in the South's fertile soils."

Unbeknownst to him, N'tren had finally let it slip he was a rider.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten raised a calm eyebrow at his laughing, but did not comment right away. She listened, not really interested. Her attitude did not change in the least when he indicated that he was among the dragonriders. With her very little love or respect for riders, and the level of care she had for males in general, his position did not change in her mind for the better.

"The only Dragon I have been close to was the one that was with my kidnapper. However, since flits are relatives to the dragons, its easy to deduce they eat the same proportionate to their bodies. I do not think that a proud dragon rider has it in himself, or herself, to grow that much food. Hunting herd beast would also become a problem to those that owned them."

Her last bit that she wanted to share, "There have been Long Intervals before, when Riders became undesirable mates." She made it sound like they never were, "So, in order to grow that much food, staying close to the weyr would not be logical. Once a queen does rise and get the attention, she'd have to stay at the weyr. Then comes the problem of finding candidates. Also, the proud dragon would be reduced to farm help, what other purpose could they possibly serve then that or pack animals and people carriers." Not completely interested in his response, she did listen more for the tone and to see if his body language changed any.

She found it funny to think of the proud Dragons and their arrogent riders being reduced to farmers and fishers. How would one of them convince anyone to want to be a dragonfarmer?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 02, 2006 6:56 pm

Naree
N'tren shrugged. "Not every dragon rider is weyrbred, you know. Many were crafters or holders. And there are not only wild herdbeasts but wherries and felines for them to hunt."

Settling himself to a more comfortable position, the teen looked her dead in the eyes. "I have been holder before and I have worked the fields. It is noble in its own right to tithe the land and bring forth food for those who need it. And as for the queen, let the Weyrwoman worry about her."

The cakes were now begining to get past the golden stage and more towards the brown stage. If the argument kept up, they would soon be burnt to a crisp.

"Dragons will apply themselves to whatever interests their rider. Though they may be the largest creatures on Pern, they have done many tasks big and small. Children will still want to be candidates and some parents wil still be honored to have their own rider a dragon. My own parents sent word to all the neighboring holds and even to our family up north." He spoke with such conviction and certainity that he refused to believe the dragons or their riders ever reduced to beggars. Rubbing the canines snout, his eyes lost focus as he reached for Datiath for comfort.

The bronze was too big to fit into the kitchens any more. But he did leave his friends and come to the entrance, sticking his head in the doorway, eyes whirling an anxious reddish-orange. Has she upset you so much? Not all dragons are bad just because a blue saved her skin. You should leave this one alone. Her mind is closed.

I can not do that. Not while she thinks bad of riders and their dragons. We were created for Pern by Pern. We will never leave. I love you, Dattie. No matter whether we are riders or farmers. N'tren spoke fiercely to his mate. Outloud, he spoke, "This is Datiath. He heard we were talking and wanted to come and see you."

EvilSIlverDragon
Caleten wondere just who he was tring to convice, himself or her? With the Records of the last Long Interval, she'd have assumed that Dragonriders would have a hard time. However, it was not her problem and she had nothing invested into dragons, so it was of little concerin. The apperence of the dragon was a surprise.

She had little care for the guy she was talking to, but the dragon was another matter entirely. Watching him a moment, knowing the color meaning from her own flit.

The smell of the cake distracted her a moment and she wrinkled her nose in distaste, "If your going to be so absent-minded to burn your concoction, do think of lighting a candle to cover the smell."

Her eyes went back to the dragon a moment she did ask, speaking to the dragon even thought she had no doubt she would not be able to hear the response from him, "Now, your a handsome one, young bronze, though I suspect you know that already. Just how much unlike a firelizard are you?" Her expectation was that the guy would answer her inquires without her having to direct them to him.

Naree
I do not like you upsetting my rider when he wants to be your friend. Great faceted eyes stared straight at her even as he rumbled his annoyance. He blew a slight bit of warm air in her direction before settling in the doorway.

The other workers in the kitchen were used to Datiath watching them and merely went about their business.

N'tren yelped and jumped up at the mention of the cakes. The new cook looked furious at him for burning such a treat. The teen went for the hearth and looked in to see shrivelled up bits on the warming stones. "Shards! You got me talking and debating, it was a excerise of the tongue and mind...How could I not be so absent-minded?"

He did not say anything out of anger or resentment. Instead, the bronze rider was amused as Datiath spoke to him about his words to the girl. Taking the oar, he pulled the crispy cakes out and set them on the table. Chuckling, he tossed them the rubbish pile and apologized to the cooks.

I eat. I fly. But I think and speak something our little cousins can not do. I will protect you unless you do not want it. And with that, the all encompassing voice of Datiath left her mind.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten nearly yelped, she had never been so startled before. She had no idea dragons could speak, and to hear a voice in her mind without so much as a warning, it was easy to see why her eyes were wide.

Gem came out of between and immediately began chirping in a scolding manner at Datiath for startling her friend like that. When she felt she got her point acrossed, she flew to Caleten's shoulder and nuzzled her check.

Caleten had not expected that behavior from Gem, and that coupled by the activity of the cooks, she was distracted from speaking. Finding her tone, and going a tad colder to cover her slips, "I am how I am, and there is no sense in making friends in a place that I will not stay. I don't need protection, there are way more that do." She did not believe telling one dragon to not help her, will prevent another kidnapping.

To her credit, she did bite back a very sarcastic remark to the guy she was speaking to, she says, "Don't blame it all on me, I did not speak when you were putting klah shavings in the cake." He was amusing, she'd give him that much, but what else are males decent at?

Naree
"But the klah was supposed to go in the cakes. So that is not the big issue, I am more concerned about them being burnt." N'tren sighed and shook his head at the lost treats. Sitting back down, he listened as the cook scolded him from across a roast wherrie.

Datiath sent his amusement at Gem and allowed her to scold him most vehemently. His eyes never really strayed from the blue-green of contentment, meaning the girl's words never really phased him. Instead, he continued looked at the roast wherrie and cleaned his claws.

This girl is very rude but very sad. No wonder she has no friends. The bronze remarked to his rider.

"Sad, indeed," he spoke outloud to his bronze. "Too bad you will not stay, the weyr is not such a bad place to be...." N'tren gave a little wave to the golden flit.

EvilSilverDragon
Gem tilted her head to the side, she amused? Chirping back, she abserved the kitchen. She had never communcated with dragons before, but sent, as well as the nearly full grown queen could, images of Caleten playing and laughing with herself and Dem'or. Though her scope was not broad, her imagaes have a feeling of only the three of them.

Caleten eyed the dragon a second, wondering if more surprise sounds would invade her mind again. There were places no one should be, her mind was one of them. Answering the guy, she remarks, "I see holds and weyrs as cages, only doors to hold me to any of them. I'll take the thread raining dangers of the open expanse" They were, to her way of thinking, only Dragonriders, their mates, children and servants had any business here. She was none of them and did not intend on becoming any. At the age of 19 turns, soon they would all leave her alone. As far as she knew about searches, candidates are never or seldom chose much older then she was.

Gem chirped at the guy her friend was talking to, when he waved to her.

Naree
Datiath rumbled at the little queen and her images. He was barely past babehood himself but felt so much older than the little gold. Taking in the of her owner and the canine, he sent back to her. Such happy memories. Too bad she is not happy now.

"But on cages, the doors never open. Here, you are welcome to come and go as you please. As for the open roads, some say that there are worse things then Thread out there. As least we know when Thread falls," He stopped for a moment and thought. "Felines, thorns, poisons... I remember the hazards of when we cleared the land for my father's hold."

He laughed for a moment. "I guess it's not my hold anymore. Not that it matters, I wasn't first-born anyways. Hello, little one. I hope you enjoyed your treat."

EvilSilverDragon
Gem chirped back in a low tone, she did not understand why her friend could not be happy here and had wished to make things better. However, her friend did not seem to enjoy her antics here as she did with no one about.

Caleten nearly puffed out, she changed her arm position and stood up a bit straighter, "There are worse things then Thread on the open road, But what are dangers to one, are life to another." That and she loved the danger, there was something about surviving it that made her feel important. Some might say she was married to danger and could not take the calm certainty of hold or weyr life.

She did not comment on holds, being seventh born in her small part of the hold, even if her father was holder she would never have been herself. She also knew nothing about hold life having left too soon and blocked out too much.

Caleten may not be able, but Gem chirped to confirm she enjoyed her food. It was only around other flits that she adopted her friends behavior, other times she made up for it, or tried.

Naree
Datiath stared for a while at the gold fire lizard before growing bored with her antics. His friends were curious as to where he was and he was bored with staying in the lower caverns. Turning his head slowly, he stopped at the girl. I hope your mind stays open. Goodbye.

Crooning to his rider, he sent that he was going back to the sunny ledge or maybe to the lake. Then carefully, the bronze turned back slowly and went about his merry way.

N'tren shrugged his shoulders. He would have to get going soon to make sure that Datiath was oiled and fed properly. "You are braver than I to be outside with its many dangers. Perhaps I am in a cage but it is one I am content with and it has given me Datiath... With him I am whole and complete."

Nodding to her, he stood up and held out his hand. "My name is N'tren, by the way. And if you ever want or have need of it, when Dattie and I can fly, we shall take you where you need to be... I hope you realize where that is before it is too late."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten watched the bronze leave, not disturbed so much with the contact that time because it had happened before. She heard the guy's comment, and thought to her self that in two turns, or so, she'd be above the normal age for impression.

She had Gem, there was no need to try and stick around, a dragon would not fit into her lifestyle. Well, that was her thought process now, anyway. When he held out his hand, she thought a moment if she should even take it.

Reaching out her own, she gave him a very firm handshake and responded back, "I hear your offer, however, I will not need it. My name is Caleten and I can handle anything." She made it a point say anything, there was nothing she feared, well relationships but that was another story, and there was nothing she could not face. Her hand was withdraw quickly, the less contact the better.

Naree
"My pleasure, Caleten. I must now go take care of my big lug. Enjoy the weyr's hospitality." And with that, he gave her a pleasant nod and walked out the door.

Taking long strides to reach his lifemate, N'tren threw himself at the growing bronze. "I hope that she can be happy. I really do. That attitude can get her hurt."

It is her life mine, not yours. I am your life. The bronze blew lightly at his rider.

"That you are, Datiath. That you are..."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten did not respond, but did take a quick look around the kitchen. She intended to take what she could, then vanish again. It would take something exteremly powerful to keep her there, Thread was not even strong enough.

I met a girl called Caleten and her friends this past seventhday. She seemed angry and sad at the same time. Because of her past, I think she doesn't like riders or boys. But not every boy has done something wrong to her. Its like judging a whole basket of redfruit by the first one you bite into... At least, that is something my father used to say. Caleten's canine was really nice, which reminds me I need to go drop some scraps off to Scruff. I heard he is doing good hunting tunnel snakes.

I would have stayed and talked to her more but Datiath needed oiling and feeding. That and I couldn't take her being angry anymore. But like Dattie said, it is her life not mine.

THOUGHTS ON LESSON THREE

What a hard lesson! Flight! I can't want until Datiath and I are one in the sky! Not just flying Thread but going from place to place. He must exercise his wings every day by flying straight to marker places. I know he can do it, he is even bigger than some of the other bronzes in the clutch!

As for us weyrlings, my hands are cramped from writing about thermals and my eyes all squinty from studying maps. So much to learn just for one flight!

*yawn* More later.

N'tren's Naming Day by naree, rimedragona, Amirynth, and EvilSilverDragon

Naree
N'tren woke up to the sun shining into the weyr barricks. He lay there, eyes still shut but enjoying the warmth. Reaching out for Datiath, he smiled when he realized his fellow was still sleeping. Probably curled up with the greens again. When Datiath finally matured, he would be quite a handle. Speaking of maturing, it was his Naming Day!

Sitting up and pinching himself, he went over the dates in his head. Let's see...Impression, Lessons, Mating Flight... Yes! It was his naming day! Letting out a whoop of joy, he jumped up out of his bed and grinned. It was the sixth day of the week, so no lessons! And he really didn't have to work the caverns if he didn't want to... All he had to do was take care of Datiath and himself.

"I'm FIFTEEN TURNS!" N'tren shouted, not caring who he woke.

Groaning, V'dran rolled over at the cry, and opened one bleary brown eye, gazing balefully at N'tren. Muttering under his breath, he simply picked up the spare pillow at his side, and chucked it towards the boy.

"Great. Now do us all a favor, and take your fifteen Turns of experience back to bed!"

It wasn't that he didn't like N'tren. Really, he was a pretty cool guy. Just not early in the morning on a day where there was not a whole lot to do. From outside on the ledge, he heard Tarvanth's cranky grumble of response as well. Like rider, like dragon... he thought, before dropping back into a half-sleep.

Naree
Plopping back down into his bed, N'tren tried to look properly chastised. But how could be? It was his naming day! He was officially fifteen turns old. Sighing and wishing some of his friends were as early a riser as he was, the boy pulled on some clothes and headed down for the caverns.

There, only a few riders and weyrfolk sat at the tables. Tapping a drudge for some klah, he hunkered down trembling with excitement. What would he be able to do today? Would his parents have sent him a gift.

Sipping the hot klah, he waited for others to arrive so he could share the good news.

Amirynth
Kalya had been sitting in a corner when she noticed the boy come into the room. The klar in her hand was the only thing keeping her up at present but something about his jaunty walk pulled her eyes to him. He had an air of excitement about him that peeked her curiosity. Frowning slightly she attempted to put a name to the boyish face. Datiath? A bronze hatchling came to mind.

Datiath's rider is N'tren, it's his naming day. Ever the reminder, Tarlith's amuzed reply to her proddings made her smile. Kalya could remember any herbal remedy she had learnt but cold never put a face to name if her life depended on it. The blue found this entertaining but always gave her a helping hand when needed.

With a chuckle to herself she motioned to get the boys attention. "N'tren, I have heard this is your naming day?" She smiled and raised her mug to the young rider before taking a sip, making a face at the bitter liquid. "I'm assuming there will be a celibration and maybe bubbly pies?" Now she was chatting and waking up a little more she remembered something else: the delicious food made by his hands.

Naree
"I really hope so! I am fifteen Turns today. Thank you," He barely took a pause as Datiath offered up a name, "Kalya. Perhaps others will be making the pies today and not me."

He took a bowl of grains and spooned some sweetner and fruit into his morning meal. Savoring every bite, N'tren could now feel his great beast waking up.

Good morning Tarlith. Say hello to your rider for me. Out on the ledge where he liked to sleep, Datiath stretched and tried to untangle himself from his clutchmates. What is a naming day, love?

It is like the day you came from your egg. I came into this world and that day gets celebrated on my anniversary. N'tren replied mentally because his mouth was full. Remembering his manners, the young rider paused a moment and made more conversation. "How is your dragon doing this morning?"

Amirynth
"Well congratulations on surviving those fithteen turns." Kalya smiled as she motioned to a drudge for some food, her stomach making it's emptyness known. "I remeber when I was fifteen, though it wasn't too long ago." She paused for a moment as a draconic prodding interrupted her.

Datiath sends a greeting to my rider The blue chuckled in Kalya's mind as he turned his gaze in the direction of the weryling barracks. You are welcome to join me little one, he added to the bronze.

Little one, Kalya laughed at that, overhearing her blue speak to Datiath. Your not that older... or bigger than him. She glanced over to N'tren with a grin and relayed the conversation, making sure to add in the usual jibe of Tarl being small in size and yet long in tail. "It seems Tarl is enjoying himself and has found a rather sunny spot to warm his hides. Not that he does much else." Her face shone with love and devotion that she felt towards her weyrmate. He was the one creature who was closest to her, something not many people could do...

Naree
I would like to join you. You can never have too much sun. Datiath replied and went to go join the blue. His bulk was getting bigger and he hoped that the blue was of good size.

"I know what you mean. If not for their ages, I would wonder about all the time Dattie spends with the greens. But neither of us are ready for any mess of that sort." He went back to eating his cereal. It was nice to be in the caverns not working. "Did you two just come off of watch or are early risers?"

Amirynth
Though Tarlith was four turns older he was not too much bigger than the bronze. Curled on a rocky outcropping hie eyes blinked lazily at Datiath as he arrived. You can have too much sun, but that is what our riders are for. Itching is not fun. The dragon chuckled and streached one wing out, causing a small flash of bronze to scold at him as it was dislodged from it's pearch. The flit sailed around before taking a new spot on the dragon's back.

"Oh I am an early riser, always have been really. It's so much nicer looking for herbs and such in the morning instead of later on when the sun is over head. That wasy by the end of the day everything is drying and ready to be used. Of course that's on days when I'm not flying thread or there isn't an emergancy somewhere." The blue rider frowned lightly as her mind ran over the previous emergancy, all those weyrfolk lost to the illness. Shaking her head she smiled again and then was interrupted by the drudge with a small plate of food. With a gesture of thanks and a dismissal. "I assume you are deep in weyrling studies right now, how are you doing with that?"

Naree
I do not think you can not have too much sun. But maybe that is because I bug my rider to oil me as soon as I am done. The large bronze weyrling watched its smaller cousin flit fly around and then resettle itself. Yours?

N'tren listened as she spoke of herb hunting and the process to dry them. He learned about some herbs and taking care of them while he was back at his parents' hold. Since coming to the weyr, he had not had much time to himself. "Do you know which herbs are good for cooking? I have learned some myself...mostly by experimenting and having to eat my own food."

He made a face and laughed, remembering all the times the roast or fish did not come out right. Hearing her ask about classes, N'tren nodded. "There is so much to learn, sometimes I am afraid something important will fall out of my head."

Amirynth
The blue glanced over towards the still scolding flit and mentally shrugged. When it chooses to be. I believe Kalya calls him Nicker while the other, Tarl lifted his wing slightly to show the smaller blue flit that was still asleep, Is called Roller. I do not know where the small green is. Nicker settled back down finally and stared at the bronze dragon, eyes whirling with curiosity.

Kalya laughed at N'trens commentary of classes. "Yes, it is quite the information cruncher isn't it. I was lucky, I have a knack for picking up the different herbs and their types so got along well with those classes but the rest... Well don't ask me to dreadge up any facts about our histories... unless it's one of the ballads. I think L'mur would probably chide me greatly if I ever forgot any of those."

Leaning back and pushing the pile of dishes they had accumulated, the blue rider thought to herself for a moment, her eyes closed. "Hmmm... some good herbs for cooking are Alfalfa, Sage, Verbena. Tarragon makes a good tonic, Rosemary and Medowsweet are also pretty common so you probably know of those." She chuckled. "I'm more likely to know which herbs not to take than which ones flavor food."

Naree
((Lol... I didnt realise you finished your post.))

My mate thinks those things are little dragons. Pets to take care of... I think they scratch my itches well. Looking at the dragon sharing the sun, his eyes whirled a friendly blue. Trying to scrunch himself together, he hoped that he was not taking up too much space.

"You were good friends with L'mur then? We talk about being holder's sons and he is teaching me to play music. Datiath is friends with his green; then again... Dattie is friends with anyone smaller than him." N'tren laughed at this. He was so happy that he was not the one clearing away tables or making any food. "That is how I learned as well. Some plants are good for medicines and some plants are good for eating. There are none that I know off that are good for both."

rimedragona
(( May I sneak in? Remia would be sure to wish N'tren a happy naming day. ))

It was early, but Remia had already been up for about an hour, working on her weaving. Ever since the weyrling classes had started in earnest, she'd had little time to actually make progress.

Mine, come outside. It is very sunny and warm out. You shouldn't sit in the dark!

Remia paused, and looked out the window. It was sunny... and it wasn't like there was a time limit on when this needed to be done...

"You're right, my love. I'll get some breakfast, and then later I'll come outside. Perhaps... I'll even give you another bath..." she said, slyly, and could feel her dragon's interest pick up. She'd just given Trith a bath last night, but it seemed the green couldn't get enough of being scrubbed. She had put the lap loom out of the way, and was now leaving the room.

I would like that very much, mine. I will wait here until you are finished, and then you can scrub me. I have an itchy spot just between my wings...

"Well, we can't have that," Remia said as she entered the dining hall, blinking in the change of light. She noticed N'tren nearby, and waved. "N'tren! I didn't expect you to be up so early, I thought you'd sleep in on a rest day!" she said, and nodded to the other, who she didn't know yet.

Naree
((anyone is more than welcome to join. I dont think he or Datiath would mind. rofl ))

N'tren blushed slightly as Remia came in and said hello. Personally, he thought he did a good job of turning away just in time for the blush not to be noticed. Waving back to her, he gave a grin. "It is my Naming Day today! I am fifteen turns and not an inch taller for it."

Datiath turned towards Trith and bugled a hello in her direction, though she was not near his position yet. Good morning friend. I am here with Tarlith on the rocks.

Holding up a piece of redfruit, N'tren made the introductions. "This is Kalya, blue rider of Tarlith. Would you like a piece?"

EvilSilverDragon
ooc: Anyone?

IC: Caleten was forever lost, she was just not getting this place down. Without a guide, she'd think she was going one place and end up in another. Noting the only person she knew in the room was N'tren, the others were atlest female. However, she paid them very little attention at all. A cup of klah was the only thing that had her attention besides the gold flit on her shoulder and the canine at her side.

Gem betrayed her friend's wishes and chirped a greeting, she enjoyed being seen and acknowledged even if her friend pretended not to.

Dem'or looked around to all the sights and sounds, sniffing out every smell but behaved and stayed by Caleten.

Naree
((*glomps* Yes anyone!))

N'tren heard another noise and in came Caleten. Not that she was a friend but she was a face that he knew. He watched as she went as sat down away from them even as her flit chirped happily.

"Hello Caleten. Hello Gem. Good to see you up so early this morning. How have you been?"

Remia noticed N'tren's sudden turning away, and she tilted her head at him curiously. But she was distracted by his announcement.

"Fifteen turns! Congratulations, N'tren!" she said, delighted, and clasped her hands in front of her.

She looked over at Kalya and smiled politely. "Hello, Kalya. My name is Remia, partner to green Trith. And thank you, N'tren, I was just coming in to get a meal." She accepted the peice of fruit and sat down as she took a bite.

--
Trith bugled back, and trotted in his direction. She was still small enough that trotting was possible, or at least an approximation of the movement. It was facilitated with little swings of her wings, though they weren't strong enough yet to actually pick her up.

Good morning, Datiath. Good morning, Tarlith. Is it warm there? It is warm here, but I think it will be warmer up by you. Trith said on the way, and when she arrived, it was indeed warmer, and she settled down near the two of them with a happy rumble.

--
Someone else had entered the dining hall, and Remia turned when N'tren made his greeting. "You're very popular, N'tren," she noted with a teasing smile. She was referring to the fact that they were all girls.

The lovely golden fire lizard on the new arrival's shoulder made Remia smile in delight. " Hello, there! What a pretty creature!" she said, thinking of her own fire lizard. He must be somewhere, sunning himself. He spent a great deal of time doing so, the lazy thing.

But as if it was a cue, the little blue popped out from between, and landed on Remia's shoulder, pressing his cold little body to her neck and chirruping a question.

After a gasp from the sudden cold on her warm neck, she laughed and shook her head in denial. "No, no, I wasn't calling you, Okaiuli. But I'm glad you're here anyway." The blue trilled in response, seemingly content with that answer.

Amirynth
Little cousins are always useful when hide itches. Tarlith noticed the other dragon that Datiath called to and nodded his own greeting. He shifted slightly so that there would be enough space for all three over them before streaching out his wings once more and snapping them closed to give even more room.

"Yes, I met L'mur quite a time ago in the holds where I used to live. It had been a while ago since I met him but he hasn't changed a bit." The blue rider chuckled before tilting her head to the side. "I know of a few that can be used for both, you just have to careful not to use too much. Willowbark is one that flavors as well as medicated. Unless you want a sleepy customer you want to keep the ammounts small though."

Seeing the other rider enter their party, she moved a few things out of the way and then nodded a greeting. "It's good to meet you, Remia." she spoke after her friendly reminder from the blue on the cliffs. "I trust that Trith is doing well?" With the entrance of one, no two flits a sudden worried though entered her mind and she silently plead to her weyrmate to keep her brood with him.

The bronze and blue are here but I do not see the green.
Came the reply.

Kalya sighed in relief before worrying where Jadice had gotten too. Her worries were to be short lived as the little flit popped out of between and landed neatly onto her shoulder. Quickly handing over some left over meat roll, the blue rider hoped she had destracted Jadice enough so she wouldn't call the other two.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten was not accustom to being near so many people at the same time and, as such was the situation, she was silent observing those that spoke holding back her own speech.

Gem on the other hand was more then happy to respond to words sent her way she took the air and chirped again, performing a light aerobatics move, she moved back to Caleten's should sitting proudly. To see another like herself was a rare treat, and she chirped in greeting to the blue.

Caleten watched Gem, then made her own response, "Morning, N'tren. I am well." She was not stupid, making enemies and getting into fights when its one on one was okay, but to completely insult a room with more, capable, people in it was unwise she refrained.

Next she turned to the voice that commented Gem, "Hello, her name is Gem, thats a handsome blue on your shoulder." Next to green, blue was her favorite color. Though she chose her words for more reasons then just the plain polite one.

rimedragona
Remia nodded, and said, "Trith is well, but I promised her a bath after I was done eating. Though, now... I think she might have changed her mind. She enjoys sitting on the rocks with Datiath and anyone else she can find." Remia chuckled lightly.

Trith put the lie to that comment, though, saying, I will stay here until you are done, and then we will go in the pond. She sounded very assured, as if there could be no other way, making Remia chuckle again at her dragon, after a pause.

Okaiuli bobbed his head up and down at Caleten. He knew when he was being talked about, and he hopped down the to the table to perform one of his tricks for the girl. He spread his wings out wide, and bowed low, his chin almost resting on the table. Then he flipped his wings closed with a happy chirp, and looked at her with a bright eye to see how she responded. Remia simply rolled her eyes and took another bite of her redfruit.

"A lovely name for a lovely gold, and thank you. But don't flatter Oki too much; he starts to strut, and becomes unbearably smug," Remia covered her mouth with her hand as she laughed. My name is Remia, it's a pleasure to meet you...?" she trailed off, waiting for a name to be supplied.

Naree
Datiath readjusted himself and realized that the three of them just fit on the sunniest of the ledges. Eyes whirling a happy blue-green, he tried to bring his wings in as close to his body as possible. It is very warm with three bodies. But if I keep growing then soon I will take up the whole ledge. Then where will we sun?

Meanwhile with people talking to him left and right, N'tren was quite happy to be in good company. It did not matter if it was all girls or not, he made friends with whomever would speak to him. "Aw, Remia, I am not popular. I just like to run my mouth too much."

Sliding over to give her more room, he was now full from his morning meal and was quite ready to discuss herbs and cooking with Kalya. He noticed that Caleten was still as aloof as possible and wondered if she would ever have any friends. Still none of his concern, he turned to see both a blue and a green flit appear on their respect owners' shoulders... Grinning in delight, he held out his finger to the blue and slowly rubbed between its shoulder blades. "What pretty creatures you girls have there. Just my luck I would have to trip over a nest to find any eggs and they would all be hatched. Turning back to Kalya, the youth nodded at her comments.

"I know what you mean. Klah can be used to spice up food, except when a careless knock sends the whole bowl tumbling, eh Caleten? That was my own fault, Kalya and Remia. I sent the whole bowl into a cake batter without even realizing it. And burnt the cakes on top of it, too." He laughed at this, still thinking it was a good joke. Since then he had prefected that cake. "Willowbark? I thought that was for headaches?"

N'tren noticed the canine near his master and held out his other hand for the beast. "Would he like an old bone to chew on?"

Amirynth
"Yup good for headaches but also good for other minor pains. I find too much can relax a person a little too much though." Kalya smiled at the girl who stayed mostly quiet before feeding another tidbit to the now sleepy green. She was still a hatchling so was only interested in eating and sleeping. "Well I don't have any queens but I already have my faire shair of the little scailies so if any eggs are passed my way I'll be sure to send them over to ya." The blue rider winced as she thought of Nicker. "But I can't promice you they'll be well mannered. This one hasn't really shown off her true colours yet."

Turning to Remia Kalya nodded. "I should get Tarl into the pools too. He still loves the doting attention and probably wouldn't complain about swimming with your green." With another thought she added, "Maybe Datiath would like to join in?"

Bring the oil, I am sure they would like some too Tarlith broadcast the news onto the dragons that shaired the ledge with him. I see many small cousins down there all ready The blue always appreciated the flits with their help in 'washing' their larger cousins. At the bronze's comment the dragon chuckles. If you grow too big we move to better ledge. There is many sunny ledges along side of the bowl.

Meanwhile Kalya was thinking, "I remember once my Aunt had a recipie for klah-cakes. I wonder if it could be re-created, they were very nice."

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten watched the blue, amused but not showing it very much, when the prompt for her own name was given, she considered not answering. But, in the end she did respond, "Caleten, well met Remia" Though her voice was all warm and friendly, she was actually looking at the female she spoke to, though turned to the blue again shortly there after scolding herself for becoming 'soft'.

Shaking her head at the blue she spoke to him, "Well, your quite the show off." Her tone was not one of admonishment and there was some amusment in her tone. Looking to Gem she spoke to the gold, "There are other of your kind, and this one seems to like to play, why not join them?" She was the hypocrite, encouraging her gold to play where she would never conceder it. Logically, she explained to herself as that she had contact with her own kind more then she cared for, Gem had not.

Gem tilted her head, but took the suggestion. Taking to the air, she did another flip and spiral before landing on a chair by the table the blue occupied. She chirped in communication and approvingly at the small show.

Looking to the other flit about, she considered calling her over, but withheld.

Dem'or had remained well behaved but when he was being spoken to, he barked, wagging his tail and trotted over to the familiar person. He may not understand words, but friendly tones and scents he understood well.

At the mention of the Klah cake incident, it was an effort not to wrinkle up her nose. The awful smell of the whole thing still lingered. When he mentioned her in the whole affair as if remaining about it, she just nodded her head and said nothing. The mention of what Willowbark did made her being there worth it. She learned something that she had not known and when it was enforced by another, it took some credit in her mind.

Naree
((Such long posts. This is so much fun!))

"I tend to chew mint to keep my teeth clean. Or sometimes I chew on licorice root and then mint. I like to keep my teeth in my head unlike some people in the holds." Getting up to get a bone for Dem'or, N'tren noticed that Caleten was still saying back away from the others. "That would be so nice of you, if you ever come across an egg. But I will not hold my breath."

Oil and bathing? I will join you of course! With the flits there to scrub us good. Three dragons are alot to clean. And then more sunning. A good afternoon indeed. The bronze rumbled very happy. Trith and I can not fly yet.

"If you know her receipe, I would be willing to try again. I am sorry about that but I am a much better cook. Nearly everyone in the weyr has eaten some of my food and lived." He gave Caleten a bold wink. N'tren was determined to be her friend or at least a good acquaintance whether she wanted it or not.

rimedragona
Trith nudged Datiath with her snout gently. As Tarlith says, there are many other ledges we will fit on when we are bigger. She peered over the ledge, looking down at the water winking in the sun, and continued, It is more fun to bathe when there are others. Then we can play games. She sounded very pleased with that possibility.

Remia nodded at Kalya's suggestion. "I think Trith would like that very much. She's very fond of water games, but I just can't bring myself to go much more than mid-leg deep. With other's about, though, she won't have to go without!" This statement was accompanied by a nod, and then she turned to Caleten. She was glad the other didn't think her blue was too cheeky.

"Won't you sit down, Caleten? I was just about to go get some meatrolls and klah for myself, I can serve you as well, if you want anything." Remia had come to the hall for a meal, after all, and a redfruit, while tasty, wouldn't keep her going for very long.

Okaiuli trilled an affirmative at Caleten's comment, and about melted into N'tren's touch when he began rubbing the small blue between the shoulders. He even went so far as to lay down, the better to enjoy the attention.

He raised his head obediently at the little queen's chirp, and whistled an inquisitive note. Why was she way over there, when the attention was being given over here?

Remia had stood up, setting the half-eaten fruit at her spot so she could retrieve it when she came back. She was waiting for Caleten's decision, but she took a moment to tease N'tren. "Nearly everyone? Who are the ones who didn't live, then?" she said, and laughed.

Trith rumbled in response to Datiath. No, we cannot fly... yet. But we are growing, and making our wings strong. Then we will fly wherever we are needed, she said with confidence.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten thought to herself that this crowd was very strange. Normally when she stood off, others left her alone, here it seemed to be getting her more attention then she was used to.

She was not looking to make friends or the like; however, she made enemies pointedly and did not see it wise to make enemies this day and time, "I'll sit, thank you; however I will not stay long, I have much to do this day." Lie for the most part, it took very little time to oil Gem and the rest of the day would just be exploring more, perhaps even find a weaver for further reference. "Most? I hear dying of bad food is a most unpleasant way to go." She had taken him literately, turning from the group she picked up Gem, whom was not all that happy about losing her perch, and took the chair that the little gold was sitting on.

As she sat down, she placed Gem gently on the table in front of her, and began to scratch her eye ridges and gently rubbed her neck.

That was Gem's answer right there and she chirped in answer, attention came to her, she was just waiting for it. Gem had never known another hand of attention, Caleten kept her away from other people's touch.

Naree
Sticking his tongue out at Remia, N'tren laughed. "I was just teasing Caleten. Actually, quite a many meal has been cooked by me for the weyr. After classes, I take care of Datiath and then come straight to the kitchens."

Datiath looked down at the waters as well. It was so blue and sparkling. He wanted to be there now! I glide when I hunt. I wonder if I could glide to the lake. Games are very fun.

The youth watched as the flits interacted with each other. His eyes stared intently, zoning out for a moment and reaching for his dragon. Eyes went unfocused as he listened in to Datiath. Going swimming sounds like fun! I am here with Caleten, Remia and Kalya. We can swim together.

"I enjoy swimming very much. At my father's hold, everyone must know how to swim by the time they can toddle. With our dragons, I doubt they will let any harm befall us. Not to mention that there will be plenty of swimmers and bathers. The sun is already up and warming the waters."

rimedragona
Remia took Caleten's sitting down as indication that she should gather a bit more food then just for one, despite the girl saying that she would not stay long. She laughed at N'tren sticking his tongue out at her and waved a 'settle down' gesture at him as she moved away.

She returned a few moments later with tray of meatrolls and a pitcher of klah, two mugs held by the handle in her crooked ring and pinky fingers. She set the whole armful down in the center of the table, one mug going over to Caleten and the pitcher within easy reach of them both.

Oki almost immediately perked his head up when he smelled meatrolls coming his way and made a pitiful noise at N'tren. If the boy was serious about pampering him, he would give him some food, too, wouldn't he?

"Oh, Oki, you're such a spoiled little creature... but I guess it is time to eat for you, too..." Remia said, then continued on a different topic, "It's not that I don't think Trith would keep me safe... I just absolutely cannot bring myself to go further in than that. It makes me sound foolish, I know, but it's an accomplishment that I go in that far. I'd much rather be at my loom, or spinning thread."

She laughed lightly, and shrugged as she reached for a meatroll, but the fact was, her fear of deep water was that strong. She used to only be able to go in below her knees, so she had made progress to now go in nearly to her hips.

Trith sent her rider a reassuring thought, then looked over at Datiath. Do we have to wait? The water looks so nice... Our riders can come when they are finished, and scrub us clean.

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten felt silly for speaking as she had to the joke, and was angry with N'tren for making her sound like a fool. Steadfastly refusing to look anywhere near him, she looked about and down to Gem.

She was only mildly interested in what was said, paying more attention to Gem and Dem'or then she did with all the people in the room combined. First it was Gem's hungry trill that grabbed her full attention, while she was in the process of grabbing a meat roll, she heard the words loom and thread. Recalling her mother's angry voice when she had messed up her loom long ago, Caleten recognized the opportunity and spoke to Remia, "Your a weaver? Is there a Hall here or somewhere near?" That was information that she could have used before she left to procure new clothes, knowing where it was could leave her with a good supply to head off again.

Naree
N'tren could see that Caleten looked mad at something and wondered if it was him. Grabbing a meatroll to feed Remia's blue, he tore into chucks and hand fed the little creature. The morning was turning out well and he could hear Datiath's plain plea to go to the lake.

"Caleten, it was just a joke. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings but I tend to joke a lot. And within the weyr, people tend to joke so as not to worry so much." He offered his sincest apologies, wondering if she would ever accept him even though he had done no wrong to her.

Nodding at Remia, N'tren popped the last piece of meatroll in the blue flit's mouth. He had heard of people having fears of water and heights and dark places and many other things. He was not sure if he had his own fear yet besides injury to his lifemate. Go to the lake. I shall meet you there. Perhaps you should say hello to Caleten and ask why she is mad.

Yawning, Datiath gently stood up so as not to disturb his friends. N'tren tells me to go to the water. And so I shall. It will be nice and warm and we can play. The bronze reached out a little farther to find the sad one near his rider. Good day, Caleten. Doesn't being angry hurt your head?

"I have sent Datiath to the lake. My food is almost settled and I shall join him. Then I have to decide what to do to celebrate my fifteens turns on Pern!"

EvilSilverDragon
Caleten was quick to respond, she felt she looked bad enough without him making it worse, "Your mistaken, my feelings were not injured in the least bit." Like she would admit that she had not encountered a good natured joke in at least five turns but really it was far before that. Her pride would never allow her to take blame or look bad in front of anyone, male even more so.

She was shocked to hear a voice invade her mind, she was really getting irritated with her mind being invaded without so much as a knock or warning. Blaming N'tren for the rude intrusion, she looked to Gem and tried to formulate an answer for the dragon and calm her firelizard.

Gem hissed, her eyes whirling red with agitation, she could sense her friend's dislike of the mind intrusion and was about to leave to scold the bronze again but Caleten would not let her move and just kept stroking her until she calmed.

'Good day, and no, being angry does not hurt. The alternative would be far worse for everyone as a whole anyway. Its far better I stay as I am.' In her ego and prideful thought about herself and her value, she truly believed that people would be upset of the dangers of being holdless claimed her or if she just didn't return for turns. There was nothing keeping her at the weyr and to didn't seem that anything would.

"Fifteen turns, happy naming day." She was some where around nineteen turns, not that she could even remember the day much less the turn.

If you do not want me here then I will leave. Too bad, I enjoy talking with you. And with that, Datiath withdrew his presence from the girl. He began to walk slowly down towards the lake. He was sad and sent his apologies to the little queen for upsetting her human. Let's go down to the lake and see who is there.

N'tren felt his dragon's distress and with good reason. The boy was distessed by Caleten and her refusal to give him any inch of friendship or even human feeling. Did whatever happen to her in the past prejudice her so much towards men, even though he was not quite into manhood yet?

Standing up, he bowed to all three ladies. Giving a slim smile, N'tren spoke just as apologetically. "I would stay here and listen to the voices of three beautiful ladies but Datiath requests I help clean his hide. Thank you, Caleten. I hope my day continues to be as bright and pleasurable as when I am in the company of you three."

Walking out of the cooking caverns, N'tren tried really hard to fight the tears that were forming in his eyes. Not understanding why his chest felt so heavy or why he was so sad; perhaps it was because Caleten was so distant all the time. Or because, being surrounding by all the girls had finally made him nervous. Which was strange because there were tons of ladies at his father's hold. Sitting on a boulder near the lake, N'tren waited for his dragon to approach.

Remia smiled at Caleten. "Yes, I am a Weaver! Or, rather, I'm an apprentice Weaver. I just have to finish my senior project and then I will be considered for Journeyman!" She cut herself off as it began to sound like she was bragging, and the girl didn't seem to appreciate anyone's pride other than her own.

"There is a hall, to the west some distance... That's where I was raised. Were you planning on visiting it?" she asked Caleten.

Oki happily dined on the chunks of meatroll and sighed when the last piece was given. Wasn't there anymore? But no, the boy didn't seem to be reaching for another one... his human was, though!

The tiny blue hopped over to Remia, and made a pleading little creel. Only just a few more bites?

"Okaiuli! Don't be such a beggar!" Remia scolded, but the blue flit was shameless. Finally she rolled her eyes and broke off a piece of her meatroll to give him. He pounced upon it as though he hadn't just eaten an entire roll himself. A few seconds later, and a happy burp sounded from him, and a content feeling wafted over Remia.

Trith, meanwhile, let Datiath stand up, waiting until he moved before she followed. Once the ledge held only herself and Tarlith, she stretched her wings out and her shoulders, before following. If you are going to the pond, so will I, and I will swim until my rider is done eating so she can scrub me, she stated.

Remia's mouth opened into a 'o' as N'tren rather abruptly got up to go to the lake. Things had seemed to be going rather well... was there something she didn't know about going on?

"Ah..." Remia trailed off, uncertain, then called after N'tren, "I'll be following you in a few minutes, N'tren! Take Oki with you!" and she told Okaiuli to go after him. The little blue cocked his head to one side, then chirped and spread his wings. A moment later, he hovered in the air and vanished, reappering over N'tren and soaring down to attempt a landing on his shoulder.

Caleten watched N'tren leave, and thought to herself that she had already stayed to long, better timing would be better in the future, she'd try to speak to the dragon but she didn't know how.

Gem looked to Caleten, sensing her friends want to make things clear about her reaction. Before even waiting to be told that she could, Gem hopped off the table and followed after N'tren conecting him with the bronze that spoke to her friend.

Noting the distance, she answers, "Yes, I was, being holdless, I seldom come across a good supply of clothing. My mother was a weaver, I always hoped if I could find a Hall, then perhaps whats not is used might come to me." Well, that was a solid enough answer. She watched both the firelizards, and spoke very blandly, "Apperently he is popular with firelizards,"

When you are too big to fit on this ledge with me you will be big enough to fly. Until then this ledge is just right. Tarlith nodded as he looked down towards the pools. They eat so often and talk when they should be out here so we can bathe The blue complained with a draconic grin. He was happy that Kalya was finally out of her room and talking to the other weyr-folk, she had spent too much time gathering herbs in case of another outbreak.

Kalya opened her mouth to pass on her dragon's complaint before the table atmosphere suddenly turned. With a confused blink she wondered what she must have missed while burried in her thoughts. Tarl...?

The girl does not appreciate Dragons. Came the simple reply as the blue nodded a 'see you in a moment' to Trith and dropped off the ledge, snapping his wings open at the last moment. Letting the updrafts carry his bulk higher for a moment he began to circle around towards the water. Maybe the pool will help clear everyone's mind.

Being rather empathic from the many times she had cared for the sick, Kalya worried about N'tren. She saw his stooped shoulders as he left and wandered what the cause was. At Tarl's words, however, she narrowed her eyes slightly before closing them and breathing deep to calm herself back down. Pride and attitude was one thing, many dragon riders she had met had plenty in the bucketloads, but to be so prideful that it cause others pain? She had little sympathy left for people like that. She watched as Remia sent her flit over to N'tren before standing up herself. "If we are off to the pools I should get the oils Tarlith was talking about." Turning to both girls she nodded a goodbye before adding, "I trust I shall see you both? I have some nice smelling oils for the flits too, it's not as strong in pungance as the oil the holder ladies use for theirs." Smiling lightly she moved off towards the sleeping caverns and her own weyr where she kept most of her products.

o O (Wow... the thread jumped while I was working *snickers*)

Remia nodded at Caleten's comment. "It would definitely appear so. Of course, he's sweet, so that's not surprising. And you're holdless? If it's not a sensitive topic... can I ask why? Did you get kicked out, or... are you alone?"

Remia couldn't really imagine wanting to live out in the wilderness with the danger of thread... but with the grubs, there was less danger in the South than in the North.

She turned to wave as Kayla left, as well. "You'll be seeing me, for sure! I have to bathe Trith, don't I? And I don't know how Oki will like smelling pretty, but I sure wouldn't mind," she said, and laughed, before looking back to Caleten. "Are you coming, too? We could talk some more about the Weaverhall...?" she suggested carefully.

Trith snorted in response to Tarlith's teasing about the riders. She often thought the same thing, but Remia had said that she was smaller, and so needed to eat more often. But they will be out here soon. And we can swim while they eat. That was good enough for Trith. The cool water would feel good on her warm hide, and flit claws were good for scratching.

Caleten decided, that if she confided a bit more, then her cause would be even easier to accomplish, "I left on my own when I was around fourteen-turns or so. I think I am nineteen turns now, I lost track a long time ago." Shrugging her lack of care about the whole thing, "I travel from place to place, once I get what I need from one, I go to the next. Often I don't come back to the same place in turns. Everywhere else has become indifferent, for some reason, those here seem determined to resist that aim.

Standing she adds, "I'll find the hall on my own, good day." She then walked out of the room hoping that Remia would let the others know then the weyr would give her the wish. She hated for people to be angry with her when she returned a place after turns and didn't want to take this place off of places to return. Then again if she gets snatched, that won't matter anyway.

Remia held up her hand to forestall Caleten's leaving, but the girl seemed to have had enough of company for today. She had said she was going to leave, to find the Weaverhall... and probably wouldn't come back? It seemed a lonely way to live, always leaving.

She thought of N'tren. He'd think it was because of him, if she had read him right. But it seemed just her way of doing things. Maybe she could send a message to her parents...

Remia stood up, and took the tray and mugs away, thinking hard. She was out the door and halfway to the pond before she realized she had left, and she blinked as she suddenly came back to herself.

Mine? she heard Trith's worried voice, and she sent a reassuring thought.

You didn't listen for a moment. What's wrong, Mine?

"I'm... not really sure, Trith. I think she has more to tell than she does. Can you..." she shook her head. She couldn't have Trith bespeak Caleten, not with the way she'd reacted to N'tren and Datiath. The little gold? But the gold was with N'tren.

I will do anything you ask, Mine. Trith said, with perfect confidence in her rider.

"It's alright, my love. Perhaps in a while." She ended the topic, and waved to the others, who she was approaching at the pond.

((Where to write? What to write? *ponders the thought*))

Datiath had made it down to the lake. Faceted eyes whirling fast as he approached his rider, the bronze bumped his head into his rider and knocked him off the rock. It was an unusual sight, dragon standing over human. The spicy smell of his bronze's hide filtered to N'tren's nostrils.

"Datiath! What are you doing? Get in the lake and wash down..." N'tren yelped at his beast.

It is not your fault that the girl has a closed mind. Not everyone can be your friend so release the pain and come wash me. Datiath's eyes hinted at the yellow-red of anger and anxiousness. He paid no mind as the blue and the gold cousins came to be with his rider. This dragon only wanted his to be happy again. The little cousins like you. The other riders like you. Why does one matter so?

"Because I did nothing to her! I gave her companionship and friendship and she judges me by another's actions. That is wrong. Not fair at all! I will not let her be so angry and lonely until her hair grays and her skin wrinkles! It is not right!" N'tren didn't realize he was shouting all of this; the urge to convince not only his dragon but himself was so strong that both rider and beast blinked. "It is just not right."

That was said much softer. Getting from underneath Datiath, he returned back to his place on the rock. Coaxing the blue into his lap, he whistled at the gold hoping she would land on his shoulder. Thumping his dragon on the forearm, the boy pointed at the lake. "Go, your friends are waiting for you."

It was then that he saw Remia and Kalya arriving from different directions. "Oh shards and shells."

He hoped on his dragon's shell that they did not hear his rant.

Gem flew from where she was by N'tren to the bronze dragon, trilling softly calling for his attention. She does her best according to her friend's wishes. Adding to her communications with chirping and trilling, she tried to get her message acrossed. She showed images of Caleten coming to a place then coming back with her best attempt to show the passage of time.

Then she sends her second message, saying that Caleten did not like to be surprised with voices in her head that her friend needed warning. In this, she was more creative, giving a warning feet away before going between and landing above the bronze's head and swirling around. She also showed a door that if opened, the angry things came out. However with a knocking sound made by her clicking noises, showed happy things coming from the door. Tilting her head to the side, she hoped her message got across.

Kalya was all the way across the bowl with the pots of oils in hand. She saw N'tren arms wave as he talked to his weyrmate. She couldn't hear what was being said though as she was a little too far away. Pausing in her steps the blue rider considered waiting for him to have a chance to cool down first. Something was going on and she wasn't quite sure what. Kalya considered it prudant to respect other peoples sanctuarys.

Tarlith sailed around on the updrafts as he made his way down to the bowl. A large shadow flew over the two in the water as his bulk made one more pass over head. The next time he came around he would land perfectly next to them. With the ease of practice he backwinged himself to his destination and wandered over to the bulk of the bronze. He felt the releasing tensions of the younge bronze rider and offered his own advice. Young one, you need patience. Time can conquer everything, even the greatest frozen mountains can become the warmest desert in time.

Remia, however, had had N'tren's words carried to her by the wind, and she slowed suddenly, trying to take her time. As she approached nearer, she smiled, giving no sign that she'd heard. Now, how to bring up the topic of Caleten, without making N'tren upset again...?

Well, if she hadn't heard it, she wouldn't know he was in a state over it. But it wasn't a topic for a greeting. So she'd simply have to wait a bit.

"N'tren, are you alright? You left so suddenly from the hall. Oh, look, here comes Kalya!" She waved at the approach of the older girl, then returned her attention to N'tren.

Okaiuli, on the other hand, wasn't worried about anything. He crept willingly into N'tren's lap, and draped himself there, sighing happily with a quiet whistle. A bright green eye peered up at N'tren from where the tiny wedged head rested on his knee. He could start anytime...

Trith watched patiently while N'tren and Datiath discussed the girl. Even if Remia hadn't heard it, she would have heard about it from Trith, who had heard it all. She added a rumble of agreement with Tarlith, though she only partly understood the older weyrling herself, then went off towards the water.

She submerged herself, only her nostrils staying above water, and her inner lid closed over her eyes, causing them to wink like emeralds beneath the surface. My rider has something to discuss, but she is waiting until your rider is not upset, Datiath. I think it has to do with the girl, she told the bronze quietly.

((darn real life and writer's block... Sorry I have been off and on...))

N'tren watched as Datiath made his way into the lake. The bronze made quite a few ripples as he allowed the water to carry his weight. Happily, he closed his eyes and floated along.

Meanwhile, with Oki in his lap pleading for tummy rubs, N'tren could not help but cheer up. Gently rubbing the blue's belly, he cocked his ear to listen to Gem's message. In his mind, the young bronze rider saw Caleten leaving and then coming back. "So that is the nature of the game, eh? Thank you for your words, Tarlith. I suppose being young has its disadvantages."

Looking up at Remia, he was sure that she had heard his words. Ears burning from embaressment, he continued to rub the blue's tummy quite vigorously. "I'm fine, Remia. Caleten is an interesting girl to be around. Hey Kalya!"

Datiath opened his eyes as Trith spoke softly to him. Paddling over to the two other dragons, the bronze blew bubbles at them. That girl upsets my rider because she does not like boys or riders and he is both. He will open up soon, I think. He likes your rider very much. Thank you for speaking to my rider, Tarlith.
