"Yes please!" Grace replied in a sing-song way; being clean does put her in an even better mood... Sticky berry juice on her pelt was really uncomfortable, and having twigs and leaves stuck in her hair was somewhat irritating. Dust and dirt, on the other hand, had never made her feel that way... In fact, dust on her pelt on a hot summer day would actually help to cool her down.
"I guess I washed the berries that were in my hair along with myself..." She mused out loud, giving a giggle. Looking up at Alyssum, Grace raised an eye brow, "Do you think that they're still edible?"

Alyssum nodded, stretching her neck out to capture the twig that held berries and leaves and carefully remove the objects from the smaller mare. It seemed a shame to crush them, since they had survived so long, and if the juice dripped on Grace, the Usdia would only have to take another bath!
At her friend's question, the chocolate mare turned and plodded for shore, words escaping her still clenched teeth, "'Ly one ay to 'ind out. 'Ome on!*"
*"Only one way to find out. Come on!"

The Usdia blinked at her friend, trying to make sense of the words coming from her friend. After a few seconds' daze, Grace started giggling, "Yes, yes... Coming!" Giving herself another shake, she scrambled after Alyssum, careful not to slip and fall; she wouldn't want to take another bath so soon after her first!
Climbing back onto dry land, she turned to face the larger mare, peering curiously at the twig in her mouth - or at least, attempting to do so despite their height differences. Taking a step back, as if giving up, she tilted her head and asked, "Are there enough for both of us?"

The Usdia's question made the dappled mare blink. She hadn't even thought to check the NUMBER of berries. The fact that were there made sharing them the next obvious step. Well, she could fix that!
Alyssum lowered her head to place the twig holding the berries carefully on the nearby grass. She counted three berries, but although they couldn't be divided evenly that didn't seem a problem. She nosed one berry seperately from the other two before moving those two towards Grace. "Here. I was eating lots of berries earlier, and you didn't get too many. So you can have both of these."

"I guess this is where the weird hoofs of two leggers would come in handy," The usdia commented with a giggle when she saw three berries; she had often seen the two leggers cutting fruits into half with some weirdly shaped contraption with their flexible hoofs. Before she could offer to give her new friend two though, the berries were rolled towards her. Blinking, she looked surprised for a moment, although it was quickly replaced by one of happiness.
"Thank you," She said, moved at Alyssum's gesture. She was blushing, but due to her dark pelt, it was hardly noticeable. She trotted over, and gave the larger mare a friendly nuzzle to show her gratitude before looking up, grinning happily.

Alyssum quickly munched up her berries, her tongue lapping out to get the bits of juice that stuck in the corners of her mouth and on the black tip of her nose.
She heard soft words of thanks and felt the nuzzle on her shoulder. The larger mare turned her head and looked down, smiling in response to Grace's grin. "Sure! It just wouldn't have been fair otherwise. Mine tasted pretty good, so I think yours will be good too!"

"I'm sure!" Grace replied happily as she walked over to where her berries were and gobbled them up; it tasted sweeter when eating with a friend! The Usdia flicked her tail as she chewed, savoring the taste of the sticky and sweet juice; as expected, she would rather have the juice in her than on her. After swallowing, she walked over to the river, bending down to take a quick sip of water.
"Its nice to eat with someone rather than by myself," The female spoke as she straightened up, a wide smile on her lips. "Do you leave nearby? Maybe we could eat again together sometime..."

Alyssum silently agreed with the Usdia; it was nice to eat with someone else. She had never really noticed up until now how lonely meal times and other everyday activities could be, as compared to adventures and exploration where new sources of knowledge were sure to catch her interest. She couldn't always seek out someone to share berries and such with when she was hungry, but it was still nice...
Her ears perked at the suggestion, and her cream tail swished in delight, "I think that'd be great! I live in the forest, not too far away, so you should be able to find me there. Or I can come here to meet you at different parts of the year, and then we can eat up whatever berries are here. That way they'll always be something different to share."

"That's a great idea! It gets lonely by myself, especially when I see herds grazing together, or a mother with her foals," The usdia mare replied, flicking her tail excitedly, although there was a slight hint of sadness in her voice. "I live in the forest too, but since I've never seen you around, we might be in different parts... But yes! We could meet up! Maybe in spring and summer! Lots of berries about!" She paused, smiling at Alyssum fondly; company sure was nice!
"I'm sure there are winter berry bushes around too, although they're rare," She continued thoughtfully, "I've never actually found one before."

The chocolate mare nodded her agreement, "Yeah, berries are hard to find in winter, but in spring or summer, like you said, we could find lots! Of all kinds of sorts, and then we'll have the best time eating them!"
Straightening up to her full height, Alyssum gave a toss of her cream mane, breath puffing slightly in the chill of the autumn air. She turned back towards her cranberry colored friend to give a final farewell before truding off back towards her forest home, "Until then... I'll be waiting to see you! Have a good winter!"
