Hey!

It's Raife. I just wanted to let you know it's time to come in for a check up, so I can assess the health of your little darlings! I'm also arranging for potluck, so bring the dish of your choice, and I'll supply the drinks. Non-living of course, haha!

Party starts at midnight tomorrow night. Meet in front of the Drinkables' shop.

Looking forward to seeing you!

-Raife

Cocoa stared down at the paper in his hands, his brown eyes carefully taking in every word as if it what was written were some kind of foreign language. At first, he'd thought the note was left for Neko, so he'd automatically handed it to Domonic. The older man had angrily handed it back before stomping outside to try and tug the nail out from their door, not too pleased with the fact that it couldn't have been put in the mailbox like any normal piece of mail they'd gotten. The young fox didn't particularly care about that. He DID, however, think it to be strange for a party to be held so late at night.

"Yo, whatcha readin'?" David piped up, picking himself up to the lip of his bottle as he heard the fox child tromp down the stairs to the basement. The kid had been out all day... He was bored!

The boy didn't say anything before flopping down onto the ragged sofa, slipping the sheet of paper onto the table in front of the drinkable in case he wanted to read it. Sprawling onto his back, his tail falling limply off the cushion, Cocoa unpocketed his handheld basketball game and began to play. He didn't even notice the sad orange eyes watching him, too caught up in his own world to care right then.

David turned his eyes away after a moment, folding his arms and sulking down against the edge of the bottle, allowing his eyes to drift across the letters on the page. The kid had been so distant lately, ever since he'd started playing on that soccer team. Lucky guy... At least he got to play the sport he wanted to.

"Did you want to go?"

The blue child blinked a few times before lifting his head up a little bit. "Huh?"

"Did you want to go to that potluck thing?" Cocoa asked more directly, not even turning away from his game. His voice was rather quiet, but there was a harsh tone that couldn't be mistaken.

David was hesitant for a moment, gripping onto his bottle tightly. He didn't want to be a burden. He didn't want to be...

"Yeah..." he finally let out, dropping his eyes back to the note.

The fox stopped his game, slowly sitting up and placing it on the table. Without any words, he seemed to say "then we'll go," as he stood and made his way back up the stairs to talk to Domonic. David merely stared at the game in a bit of awe, almost unable to believe the dim words on the screen.

Game Over.

...Cocoa never lost that game before.

---------------

"You have GOT to be kidding me..." Domonic sighed, closing his eyes as he rubbed at his temple with one hand, holding Manior in his seat with the other. "That's way too late for you to be out by yourself. And don't give me any of that being old enough crap, because you're only eight years old."

"What if someone comes with me?" Cocoa asked, holding a pair of scissors for the man. "Besides, I think most everyone there will be an adult... Things shouldn't be that bad."

"That doesn't really help your argument," he replied, carefully combing out the knots in the toddler's hair, preparing it to be trimmed. The cat boy was squirming badly, desperately trying to get away. Had Domonic been human, that might have worked. Hesitating for a moment, he decided to give it a shot. "Who did you have in mind?"

"You."

"Try again."

Cocoa thought for a moment. "Juubei."

"As odd as it might sound, I don't think he deals well with crowds."

The child couldn't help but chuckle a little bit at that. "What about Tai-bo?"

Domonic stopped what he was doing for a moment, quirking a brow. "Good luck with that."

"...Demare?"

Manior took this opportunity to take his father's hand and sink his little fangs into it.

"OW!!" he cried out, retracting the limb only to allow the toddler to flee from the chair he'd been trapped in, the boy scampering up the stairs. Domonic shook his hand a little bit, checking the bite marks to make sure he wasn't bleeding too badly. "I guess if he's the only one... Isn't it Demian's week, though?"

Cocoa shrugged a little bit. He didn't know how the halfling worked; he just stayed away from him when he could.

Sighing heavily, the blonde man sunk down into the empty chair, pausing for a moment as he thought. "Just... be careful, and try not to be out too late. You have a game the day after."

It wasn't noticeable, but the child's heart sunk at those words. "We'll be fine," he said, a silent promise as he set the scissors down on the coffee table and headed back down the stairs.

---------------

"We don' have ta go, ya know," David said, sinking further into his bottle to prevent any possibility of spilling out.

"I said it's fine," Cocoa sighed, adjusting the red scarf around his neck, trying hard not to drop the warm tupperware in his free arm. Domonic had helped him make brownies for the potluck, figuring dessert would be the best thing to bring since he was a child. "This is for you, anyway... They wanna make sure you're okay, right?"

"Yeah, but..."

"Would you two put a ******** sock in it?!" Demare snapped, growling slightly as he plucked his cigarette from his lips. "Gods be damned, you're almost annoying as that twit chick."

"You shouldn't be smoking, you know," the fox chided, his ears flicking a little bit. "It's bad for your health."

"The ******** I care about my health, p***k. I'm a demon, I don't get the same illnesses as you humans," the halfling scowled, taking in a long drag and blowing it right into the child's face. He could hear David coughing from within the bottle. "Oh, suck it up. I doubt you things get sick, anyway..."

"IT STINKS, FOO'!" the drink shot back, wishing he had something to throw.

"We're here," Cocoa stated, stopping in front of the door to the shop, glancing up toward the sign to make sure that was really it. It looked right, at least.

Demare sighed, taking in the last of his cigarette before dropping it on the ground and putting it out with the toe of his boot. Exhaling slowly, he shoved his hands in his pockets, his wings fidgeting behind him.

"You sure you don't want me to stick around?" he asked a bit quietly, his bi-colored eyes staring a bit blankly at the door. "You know... just in case."

"Why should you care?" the fox child asked without thinking, his ears flattening a little bit as his tail shifted behind him.

The teenage shot him a glare, about ready to explode in anger, but he contained himself. "Hmph... you're right. I DON'T care! Call me when you're ready to leave, I'll be around."

Cocoa bit his lip as he listened to the heavy footsteps fade away, looking down to his bottle to make sure David was okay. Sure enough, the drinkable was looking up at him with bright orange eyes, looking a bit expectantly for him to go inside.

Setting the bottle carefully on the tupperware cover, the child reached a hand up and slowly opened the door.

[Metaplot: Group RP]
PostPosted: Sat Nov 04, 2006 2:31 pm

The trio had managed to get home quietly, no one waking up to inquire about the hour of which they'd entered the house. Demare immediately retreated to his room to continue reading the book he'd been interrupted from, and Cocoa carefully placed the leftovers he was able to take home in the refrigerator after setting David on the coffee table. The boy knew it was "late"... He'd wanted to go home an hour ago. However, the drinkable seemed to be having such a great time that he figured it wouldn't hurt to stay a little longer. After all, what were the chances of them seeing any of the others again any time soon?

Returning to the living room, the fox child flopped down onto the couch behind him, kicking off his shoes before positioning himself onto his stomach. Cocoa assumed the basement was full with the other residents, and it was almost his turn to sleep upstairs anyway. Maybe with the new house Domonic wanted to move to, there'd be enough rooms for at least half the people they lived with... Maybe he'd even be lucky enough to get a bed he didn't have to share with two other kids. Tired, he rested his face on the couch cushions and closed his eyes, just wanting to go to sleep.

David, however, was far from being tired. The blue boy felt strange ever since he felt that spray, unable to explain the supposedly non-existent change he felt inside himself. He knew something was wrong, but what could he say to describe it? He didn't know about what most others felt, so he had nothing to compare this to. It wasn't like being sick, because he wasn't making faces like Cocoa did whenever he had a cold or stomach ache. It wasn't an emotion, that was certain. It bothered him, to say the least, and he was determined to figure out what it was.

...It was only a matter of HOW to figure it out that stumped him. If only he had legs and was 10 feet tall! Because being that tall, someone could surely see EVERYTHING.

Glancing at his fox friend, the drink frowned slightly. How could he sleep so easily? Didn't he feel anything weird? A sudden chill ran through his body, feeling a light frost touch his liquid flesh. Reaching a hand up, he felt his hair, noticing it was still bristled and stiff from the walk home. It wasn't QUITE frozen, but just enough to keep him chilly.

"Hey..." David piped up, shivering slightly as he leaned up against his bottle a little bit.

The boy didn't respond.

"Hey...!" he called out a little louder, noticing the long furry ears twitch a little bit. "Cocoa, heeeeey~!"

"What do you want?" the child whined, rolling his head to the side so he could glare at the drink that was bothering him. "I'm trying to sleep..."

David began to shiver again. "It's... cold, Cocoa." He frowned at the blank stare he received. "No, I mean it's REALLY cold! I'm freeeeeeeezing!"

The fox quirked a brow. It wasn't that cold inside... It was a lot warmer compared to being outside, anyway.

"How come you're talking different?" Cocoa asked instead of inquiring about the chilly factor, pushing himself up as he tried to figure out what to do for his friend. He couldn't exactly give him a blanket, and the heating was already on in the house. Idly, he wondered if there'd be any problems with turning the gas fireplace on for a while, since he would be sleeping in the living room. "You're even calling me by my name."

"Different?" the blue boy questioned. He was speaking differently? He hadn't noticed anything. "What're you talking about?"

The brown fox stumbled over to the fireplace mantel, brushing his fingers along the side to feel for the switch. It didn't take him long to find, flicking it on and watching the fire "poof" into existance. Using a little knob below the switch, he turned it so that the flame was small, wanting just enough heat for the drinkable to warm up. Dragging his feet back to the couch, he flopped back down and turned his back to the other.

"Nevermind... We'll talk later," he said as he yawned, his tail curling around his legs a little bit. "G'night, David..."

David didn't respond as he blinked a few times, readjusting his orange sweatband a little bit. He merely turned around and rested his arms against the rim of the bottle, sinking downward enough to watch the controlled fire. His orange eyes in a bit of a trance as they focused on the dancing flames, feeling his liquid form slowly beginning to warm.

Dance, fire, dance...

METAPLOT PART II
Here we start our post-pinkopolyptic adventure! For the rest of our metaplot, you'll be on your own personalized RP adventure with a staff member guiding you, post for post until the inevitable conclusion! The faster you post, the faster you get to your goal! Responses must be at least a paragraph, and if you ever go more than a week without responding, you're out! (C'mon, guys. It doesn't take a week to write a paragraph.) These don't have to be as long as the original metaplot #1 and #2, as we're going for more an RP style than a journal style. This could take anywhere from three weeks (four if you're unfortunately with Raife) to three months, depending on how you play this out! LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED, BABY.

The night after the strange events in front of the Drinkables! shop, something was strange at David's house. The boy was anything but his usual active self. In fact, he was lethargic, sluggish, almost unresponsive. That pink glow was back again, brighter than ever and shining around David like a beacon, as if to say "Hey! Something wrong here." Nothing could keep his attention. Not video games, not basketball, not girls, not any of his more...usual interests.

What had happened that night at that shop?
PostPosted: Fri Nov 17, 2006 10:33 pm

David sighed lightly as he stared down longingly at the rubberbands on the smooth surface of the end table where he and his bottle rested while Cocoa played a game on his new console. He almost felt sad and depressed in a way, not interested in his surroundings in the least bit. Normally he would be excited over the new sports game his friend had bought, but today he couldn't even keep his orange eyes focused on much of anything for more than 30 seconds. The drink was constantly fidgeting in his bottle, shifting to the left and right as if something were bothering him.

Cocoa, on the other hand, was trying very hard not to care. It's not that he was trying to be heartless, it was just that he was trying to ease away from the drinkable and trying to get someone else to start watching over him. Mostly because come spring, the fox child wouldn't be around as much since Domonic was going to send the children in the house to school. With Neko gone and Sora with her hands full, no one would be able to home school them any longer... which meant Cocoa wouldn't be home as much anymore. Which meant... he wouldn't be able to take very good care of David anymore.

Whoosh. Whap. FWOOSH.

The controller for the new console he had was very strange. It was merely a stick, and when one moved it, the action would take place on the screen. Right now, he was apparently playing tennis. Very badly. His eyes continually averted to the drink on the end table, the pink glow around his friend VERY distracting. Anything as bright as that would cause ANYONE to go insane, he was sure of it.

Finally, Cocoa gave in, tossing the controller onto the couch cushion.

"Okay, that's it," he mumbled, taking a couple of steps closer to David. "What's up with you? Why are you glowing PINK, of all colors?"

With lazy eyes, the boy stared up at the much larger boy. "Glowing...?"

It seemed he hadn't noticed anything.

"I don't know what you're talking about..."

Cocoa frowned. This wasn't like him... first he was speaking differently, now he wasn't curious about anything. Asking questions like he always did.

"Okay then... let's play a game," he suggested, his tail swishing a little bit behind him.

"I don't wanna..."

"...Read that racing magazine with the pretty girl on the cover?"

"Booooooriiiiiing."

"Want to pull a prank on Tea?"

David paused for a moment before sighing, "Nah, that's okay..."

Cocoa stood there for a long moment, trying hard not to feel hurt by all of the sudden rejection. Was this somehow payback for all the neglect these past few weeks...? Or was there really something wrong with David that he didn't know about? Idly, he wondered if it had anything to do with the glitter all of the drinks had been talking about...

Continuing to sink further and further into this dark mood he seems to be in. David's already "blue" drink seems to darken as well. It only lasts for moments at a time, but when he seems at his most depressed it sinks to a cloudy almost navy blue color. It always seems to clear by the end, and there doesn't seem to be a source.

It's certainly never been a problem before. Could this still be the work of that ominous pink mist? The glow has disappeared...for the moment.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 04, 2006 12:28 am

Cocoa grew even more worried as he noticed David's coloring begin to change. His friend only seemed to be getting darker and more sad as time passed, and he didn't know what to do. Nothing he did seemed to cheer up the poor drinkable, and he was starting to feel that his REAL friend was fading away.

The fox child decided that this was too much for him to handle alone. Turning off his game and the TV, the boy crouched down in front of the end table.

At this point, David had turned a deep navy color, the color in his eyes wavering a little bit as if they were full of tears. Not that Cocoa could see it, but the child was indeed crying, but he had no idea as to why. He just didn't feel like doing ANYTHING anymore... Nothing seemed worth it. He always felt as if... he wanted to die, if only to stop feeling so depressed.

"I think maybe that stuff must have made you sick, David," he piped up, carefully placing the back of his index and middle fingers against the drink's forehead.

"Stuff? That glitter thing?" the small boy croaked, shivering slightly. "Can I even GET sick...?"

"I don't see why not... You're human-like, just like I am," Cocoa shrugged, crossing his arms across his chest for a moment. "I get sick just like anyone else. Maybe I'll call that place... see if I can talk to the people who gave you to... her."

Standing up, he didn't even think about bringing David with him as he trampled up the stairs, rushing to the phone and looking up the shop numbers that were listed on the wall. Sure enough, he was able to find the cafe, and he quickly dialed the number. A part of him had a feeling no one would answer, but he felt that he had to try for David's sake.

Of course, no one answered the phone at the drinkables' storefront. In fact, in the stead of that familiar ring came a just as familiar phrase...

"The number you have dialed is no longer in service. If you need help, please hang up, and then dial your operator."

Meanwhile, the drink was turning foggy, opaque with darkness. David's feet were rendered invisible in the liquid, as well as the rest of him that wasn't above the surface. It was even turning a little soupy.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 20, 2006 3:09 am

Cocoa nearly dropped the phone as he listened to the phone, unable to believe the message. No longer in service...? Had the number changed, maybe? Hanging up the phone, the fox boy quickly made his way back down the stairs to check up on his friend.

"Cocooooooa..." came a loud whine from within the bottle. David appeared to have sunk himself downward, only a little bit of his streaked hair poking out from the top. "I wan' oooooout..."

"David, you can't come ou--" he started to reply, but stopped as he reached the table, noticing the even darker color of the liquid person. He could hardly see the boy's body, only the child's head sticking up out of the surface.

The drinkable almost seemed like he was disappearing...

"It don' feel right, man..." David complained, his speach seeming to return to normal for a moment. Perhaps it had something to do with him being a little more aware now, more conscious of what was happening. "Feels... thick... Cloudy... like smoke..."

Tiny hands grasped firmly onto the rim of the bottle, blue arms slowly pulling a small body out from the pool of liquid beneath it. "Out... Gotta... get out... Don' feel right..."

"HEY!" Cocoa snapped, picking up the container quickly and watching his friend drop back into the drink. "Stop it! You're scaring me!"

"But... too thick... So cold... So dark..." David mumbled, feeling a little tired. The poor child was beginning to shake, something that looked like tear drops rippling in the "water". It was obvious now that he was very scared. He felt so helpless!

"You can't leave this bottle, you KNOW that..." the fox tried to explain, his voice trembling. He was sick. That had to be is. David was sick. That stuff from last night made him sick. "Just... hold on, okay? You gotta be strong for me, man!"

"Wha's happenin' ta me, dawg...?"

"Dude, I...! I... I don't... KNOW! Man, I'm just a little kid, I can't do this stuff..." Cocoa whimpered, scrambling up the stairs. The shop... Maybe someone would be at the shop. Someone... ANYONE... "I'm gonna get you some help! Just... just stay with me!"

The boy placed his hand carefully over the rim of the bottle as he ran past Domonic in the hallway, not even responding as the man asked him what was doing on. Cocoa merely bolted out of the house, running as fast as his little legs would let him toward the drinkable's cafe where he'd met the others last night.

The Drinkables shop was as deserted as it always was, and maybe even a little desserted. But in any case, no one was home. Barton's streets were crystal cold at night, and little crystals of pink ice started to form around the rim of David's bottle.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 04, 2007 3:33 am

Cocoa frantically pulled at the door for a few moments, hoping it would open, but failed miserably. Nothing... there was absolutely NOTHING. In only one day, the shop looked as if it had been abandoned, untouched for what could have been weeks as far as anyone knew. He and David were alone... and helpless.

Turning around, the fox leaned up against the door and slid down it, his body shivering from the cold as he came to a sit. Carefully, the drinkable was plunked down onto the sidewalk inbetween his legs, the boy grasping onto his arms tightly as he realized how cold it was.

David seemed to copy him, his little body beginning to shiver and quake as he could feel the surface of his drink begin to lightly frost over. Now what were they supposed to do? It was dark out now, Cocoa hadn't brought anything like a scarf or jacket with him... and no one was inside of the shop.

Oh no... THEY WERE GOING TO FREEZE!!!

It took him a long moment, but the little drinkable noticed the pink crystals forming on the rim of his bottle. His orange eyes stared at them for a long moment before narrowing, feeling that odd liquid heating up in his eyes again.

It was all ITS fault... It was because of that stupid pink stuff that he was feeling so strange and causing Cocoa grief. If they hadn't gone to that stupid meeting...!

...But... had they not gone... He never would have met Ren. Or Kaze. Or Cedric...

"Stupid... pink... CRAP!" David finally cried out, hitting the ice hard with a blue fist. It hurt, badly, but he didn't seem to care. "It's YO' fault! YA STUPID... STUpid......... THING!!!"

Cocoa opened his brown eyes to see what David was talking about, slightly shocked to see pink dust lifting into the air after each little punch. He could see tiny cuts on his friend's hands where they hit sharper pieces of ice, and thought that was enough.

"David... no more..." he managed to get out, reaching a hand downward to prevent him from punching the bottle anymore.

To his surprise, however, the little blue boy hit his finger quite hard.

"DON' TOUCH ME!!" David screamed in anger. It was like he couldn't control himself anymore as he took another swing at the poor finger. "Jus' DON' frickin' touch me!!"

This made Cocoa angry.

"Look, you're stressing out," he tried to reason, pulling his hand away to give the drinkable some space. "Just... calm down, dude. I understand that you're probably scar--"

"SHUT UP!" blue cried out bitterly. "JUS' SHUT THE HELL UP!!"

"DAVID! I'm only trying to HELP you! Please, calm down... You're scaring me!"

"LIKE YA EVEN CARE!"

The fox child's eyes grew large as he felt as though his heart had just stopped. "...What...?"

"Ya heard me!" David growled. If he had blood, it would be boiling. "Ya don' care 'bout me! Yer never 'round anymo'! Only thing YOU care 'bout these days are yer STUPID classes, yer STUPID piano thing, and yer STOOOOOOOOPID SOCCER PRACTICE!! Ya... ya don' even ask if I wanna join!! Or... or LEARN!! YA ONLY CARE 'BOUT YERSELF!!"

"IT'S NOT LIKE I WANTED TO DO ANY OF THOSE THINGS!!" Cocoa screamed, unable to contain himself anymore as he began to cry. "I... I didn't wanna take the classes! I don't like playing the piano! And... and you could get hurt if I bring you to soccer with me 'cause I can't watch you from the field! I never wanted to leave you out, David... I just... I just thought you'd get bored or something would happen to you..."

Well, he felt like a fool. All this time... Cocoa just wasn't hanging out with him because he was looking OUT for him??

"But... but you never play with me anymore, even after that stuff..."

"Because I'm always tired... School's early, piano's right after, and soccer makes me exhausted. I didn't mean to neglect you... I thought someone else would help, but no one else likes the same stuff we do."

David's mind couldn't stay focused, feeling himself freeze even more. All of a sudden, his anger had turned to a deep sadness. These mood swings were starting to drive him crazy.

"Cocoa...? It's... it's gettin' really cold in here..."

Staying near the shop longer seemed to make everything even worse, as if there was some residual...whatever...left in the air around the shop. The crystals edged closer to David's liquid, but never managed to freeze it, as if something was keeping it at bay. But it was dark, uncomfortable, and David's joints started to ache.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 06, 2007 12:26 am

"It huuuuuurts," David whined, sinking into his drink a little bit. He would have started to rub his arms, but his elbows wouldn't bend without aching. It was like his bones themselves were trying to tell him something.

"Staying here isn't doing us any good, is it?" Cocoa sighed, finally standing up, carefully picking up the bottle from the ground and holding it close to his body, wrapping part of his long-sleeved button shirt around his friend to try and warm him up a little. "Let's go home... maybe some sleep will do us both some good."

The walk home seemed to take forever. Neither of the boys spoke to each other the entire way, not even so much as looking at the other while they tried to stay warm. The fox child merely went home, entered the house without saying a word, and went downstairs to the basement. Placing David on the coffee table, Cocoa lugged two logs from their pile and stuffed them into the fireplace, using some old newspaper and a match to turn them aflame. Perhaps the fire's heat would help melt whatever that crystal was on the drinkable's bottle.

David, still feeling achy and very uncomfortable, began to wimper from within his container. He wanted a new one... a new "home" until he could be free. Was he really only allowed to exist in this one sports bottle?

Cocoa took a seat on the floor in front of the fireplace, then reached back and snatched the blue boy off of the table and placed him inbetween his knees to keep him held up.

"Where does it hurt?" he asked, remembering what Neko did once when his own body had hurt some time ago. Come to think of it, he'd been awfully moody around that time as well, and had generally just wanted to be alone while he dealt with whatever it was that was going on.

The drinkable was quiet for a moment, feeling bad again. He was being a burden... That's all that he was.

"Everywhere..." David said quietly, shrugging his shoulders. "My legs, my neck, my arms..."

Gently, the fox took the boy's arm between his index finger and thumb, and very carefully began to massage it. He wasn't sure if it would work or not, but it was definitely worth a shot.

"Listen... For the rest of the night, let's promise not to fight or argue... or worry about this anymore," Cocoa said, wondering if maybe they were worrying about nothing at all. For they knew, this could have just been some sort of whacked out prank. "Okay...?"

David was quiet for a long moment before his shoulders began to heave and shudder, a chuckle turning into pure laughter emitting from his mouth. Maybe he was going crazy now... It was like he was starting not to care. This whole thing was just stupid. It was hurting him, his relationship with his best friend, and it was annoying as hell. That's all there was to it.

"Okay," he agreed, smiling a little bit for the first time the entire day. "No mo' fightin'! I'll try ta be ina lighter mood... Or... hide da feelin's or somethin'."

"Don't bottle anything up, that just makes it worse."

"Got it, man. Just... relaxin'!" He wasn't sure if he was feeling better or not, but it was a little nice to at least think that things were looking up.
