Cassandra followed as Camille led them on the tour; the ship was symmetrical; the personnel quarters were next to the armory, opposite the gun control room and mess hall, respectively. The cockpit was at the core of the ship, with the Cypher engine in the middle behind a protective barrier. To the front of the cockpit was the briefing room, then the main gun, and behind the cockpit was the pod bay.
"All right, that's everything," she declared, throwing a lever. She glowed bright white for a moment and the ship powered up, the Code within the Cypher engine spinning rapidly. "Now, to the briefing room," she instructed.
"Alas, it seems we'll be taking off." Rose sighed. "At least your questions will be answered there, though."

"I guess we don't get any hands-on practice," Cassandra murmured, disappointed. "Before we move on, what exactly is the 'Cypher' engine?"

"Divine Cypher. It basically processes mana in a method described by a 'Code,' and what it amounts to for us is that this is a palindromic Code, meaning we can get a different effect from it by, yes, wait for it, reversing the polarity of the mana flow. Any other questions, you can ask in the briefing room," Camille replied. She led the way.

A smell like ozone shot through Ty's nostrils as though he had taken an oxygen shot at a bar. It made him blink for a few seconds before he recovered, registered Rose's words, and smiled again. He followed her to the briefing room.

Rose and Ty slipped in with the crowd as Camille led them in.
Camille turned to the assembled crew as they felt the ship rising. "Now, you're probably wondering what Rose was talking about outside. The Cabal is preparing another assault on the Tenochtitlan leyline. We're going to let them mobilize, then assault them from the back. We're trying to break their offensive then capture some officers to discover the nature of the Cabal Coalition's Dominator. This is going to be a night mission - anything defensive against the Cabal Coalition will be, on account of their vampires," Camille explained. "Their Shadow Mages will be at a huge advantage, so we'll be handing out flares before we hit the pods. CL_Triton will be in the armory if you need weapons or equipment, but remember - we can only restock so often, so don't waste ammo. We have a small thaumaturgy station so we can replace enchantments and such as necessary."
"We'll be across the Pacific in about half an hour," GN_Triton, the humanoid counterpart to the crablike CL_Triton part of the Triton unit, explained. "We're going to rip through Crossover at the Seine then pop out at the Tenoch in a bit. Then we're going to loop around to the West to flank them. They're probably going to be using a shadowcruiser, nothing too terrifying, but big enough we can board it directly."

"Any specific word on the type of opposition you think we'll be facing?" Cassandra inquired. She was trying to take stock of what this meant. "What kind of fighting will we actually be doing? Hand-to-hand? On ground? On the ships? What kind of weapons do we think they'll be equipped with? Anything else you can tell us at all? How are we going to be organized?" For someone head-in-the-clouds, Cassandra was good at worrying about her own hide.

"Vampires, werebeasts, Cabal warlocks. Sages and Acolytes will probably be present as well. Standard Cabal weapons, mostly assault rifles and their magic," Camille explained. "We're firing our pods directly onto the top deck of the shadowcruiser. You'll want assault rifles and submachine guns from the armory, unless your focus is magic or some form of hand-to-hand, like a Panzermagus."

"And if my greatest skill is seeing things, as opposed to actually shooting things?" Cassandra asked to herself, not really intending anyone to hear.
"Well, anything else you particularly want us to know?" she asked. She began to consider the possible implications here. A submachinegun would apparently be less powerful, but an assault rifle might be bulky. It was really very hard to say. She needed to go and have a look... try out her options, even.
"Is there a firing range somewhere around here?" she asked suddenly.

Ty glanced at the girl who smelled of vanilla. Skinny. Loved herself. He wondered who was in the pendant on her neck. A thought finally struck him involving his consideration of combining the reds of strawberries and Rose, and he internally cringed. His sister's name was Rose. How could he think of a woman named Rose that way...? Disgusting. But, then again... He quickly recovered. This woman was not his Rose. So it didn't matter. He let Cassandra ask his questions for him, having already made his judgment of her. Too difficult to go for, at the moment. He twitched a little at the mention of werebeasts. He was never happy when he had to fight his own kind, but... unfortunately, he was aligned differently. Maybe he could just... focus on the vampires. That would be a working tactic. He nodded to himself.

"If that's the case, you'll work point with a marksman like Carlyle on most missions... I don't know. Firing range in the armory, though," CL_Triton suggested. "Wait... can you see through walls?" it added.

"Ahm... if there's something magical on the far side, then absolutely," Cassandra informed him. "Otherwise, I really can't promise anything."

"Excellent. You'll work with Carlyle then," Camille responded, a little uncertainly. She lacked Triton's advantage of a link to the ship's roster and personnel profiles.

"Can we assume the vampires will mostly engage in hand-to-hand combat? That's my specialty; I'm not magically talented. I can hold a gun at first, I guess, and I have pretty good night vision. What are the chances of melee combat?" He wanted to avoid guns. He'd probably react and fire, and it wouldn't give him time to concentrate solely on humans and vampires.

"Nearly inevitable. They have a full pack of werebeasts in their crew," CL_Triton replied. "You should take a machine pistol or shot pistol, though, at least. As for vampires, how they fight is their own personal preference."
